Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

Nice job on the hair!! Not sure if this is possible but can you apply a turbo smooth to add segments. Up close the hair looks a bit jagged.

As for the seam, I don't think it will be visible in game and can be painted out for the character portrait. I do agree that not having the seam at all is the best bet.

thanks cal, I was going to apply turbo smooth but than said, maybe they need as low poly as it can be, but I will do it right away, thanks for the comment, really helpful
 
here is with turbo smooth, FINALLYYY GORO IS HERE... is looking good cal, just two observations:

1: when he moves the upper arms is looking weird at the chest, looks like if the chest is constantly deflating and inflating.
2: I think he is breathing too fast IMO.

Hmm. Looks like Goro's arms are just going up and down instead of the elliptical pattern that's in the original. If you look, you'll see that the top left arm and the bottom right arm are following identical circular motions, and the other two are doing the same.

And the shoulders shouldn't be bending inward like that. The shoulders should be moving less in general.

Also the upper body should be rocking mostly forward and backward instead of a circular pattern, and the lower body needs a bit more energy. Actually maybe you should try keeping the torso pretty much rigid and leave its movements to the knees and hips. I think that might help to look more like the original.

Nice start on Goro animation but his arms are all over the place right now.
Maybe try to animate his upper arms first and get smooth circular motion

personality, a bit more angrier look.

Thanks for the comments all. As you can plainly see I am pretty new to character animation but I am learning a ton. Will work on fixes.
 
I'll have the High kick done today, I can't do all 3 because my computer is way too slow.

Goro needs some stretchy bones connecting from the pecs to the upper arms near the shoulders. That should prevent his pecs from twisting so much in that area.

I BELIEVE this is the Cavern Theme. It might be Goro's tho, I'm not sure on the naming. Anywho, this is my version of the theme. I did take a few liberties on the arrangement and instrumentation. I think it's a good mix of old and new.

EDIT: I forgot to add that I used The Grid's (I think that was his name? :/) midi instrumentations in a couple spots for this piece. His stuff helped me figure out a few bits that were giving me trouble. Just wanted to give credit where it's due.

I think it sounds great Justin, my only critique would be to make the beginning high (strings?) notes match the original more, or keep what you have and add an additional that matches the original, they might even harmonize and sound good together. Also maybe more tom/bongo hits in the beginning.

calactyte, if this helps any and you haven't already noticed (I realize it is WIP) in the original Goro stance I think he's doing more of a circular motion with all of his arms and his body is moving straight back and forth. His top-right arm is following his bottom-left arm and his bottom-right arm is following his top-left arm. Top-right and bottom-left arms move forward while his body is moving forward. Keep up the good work.
 
Okay that sounds great Bleed...! Cal, that Goro seems like a huge challenge to animate and you're doing it AMAZINGLY, really...! , I'm gonna extend: Your standing animation seems livid, like 20 times better than your Tsung animations, you got a tear out of my face! :)
 
@Justin Slaughter, that's pretty awesome. If I would critique anything, and that's just my personal preference, I'd emphasize the main melody (starts at about 0:18 second mark) more. If my ears don't deceive me, you got beats in the "front" so-to-speak, and melody in the back. I'd make it other way around or more balanced. I think it's much easier to spot the main melody in the original than in your remake.

@Bleed, that's great and you're fast with these man. When you're finished with the roundhouse, could you post a quick .gif, I'd really like to see that one. Maybe after that you can try Throw animation, that looks like a tricky one.

@arq_hawkin, what I forgot to say about Kang's hair, it goes more in volume (on the sides and up), then in length (down to back)

@Mr.Mos3s, nice touch-ups on Goro Lives, looking forward to his Battle Plan pic.

p.s. maybe someone can contact STORMS of testyourmight.com and send him some work from this thread. I haven't seen this project advertised on that site in like half a year. I think it would be great to let wider MK community know this project is still going strong, and maybe lure some of the artists out there to join in.

Cal, this Goro is one of the best renditions of the character that I have seen. Amazing job. Much the same as Bleed's scorpion. All of the development team for this game has got me hooked watching the progress and I don't even play video games! haha

I think Goro's standing animation needs a more circular pattern for the upper arms (like La_Luna pointed out). Maybe some more flexing at the knee's to bring his upper body forward as his upper arms trace out their paths as well. Lower arms' paths look pretty spot on to me.

Your work on the character has been simply incredible and I love seeing the sprite matchup between your Goro and Bleed's scorpion.
