Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

She's actually a model (more specifically a friend of a friend) I recently worked with. She was f**king STUNNING, not only in her looks, but in pulling off her moves... including the scissor leg grab. I wasn't even going to think of asking her to do it, but when I mentioned the move saying "we'll skip that one", she said "I guess you forgot the part where I mentioned I was a former gymnast :-p" So on that note, here's another shot... a true "what if", as you'll see...

(Once again, click for the "biggins"!)

Also, I hope you all didn't mind me using the HD backdrop you all created. I'm thinking of posting these in my photography portfolio, but I'll make sure to give credit for any backdrops I use, as long as no one has any issues. I don't want anyone to feel like I'm stepping on any toes. Like I said, I'm admiring the hell out of everyone's work, and it inspired me to work on this photo series!

That shit is amazing!!!! So did you capture all of her moves? Enough to make all of Sonya's sprites with? I can see that this would have been easier than creating characters in 3d.

If you do have all of the sprites for Sonya, you should release it as a Mugen character.

This is for some speed practice today, limit two hours. That's kind of long though, it should take like half that time... I think it's because I was using Dynamesh in Zbrush, and it's too high poly. Too much time is wasted trying to smooth it out.

It'd be my honor if you used any of the backgrounds. That is really cool how she dresed in that outfit and then actually was capable of doing that move.

I have the get hit low almost done, It should be in drop box tonight.

I don't know....,I'll have to check MK3 again, because I found Motaro super easy to beat in UMK3. They all have some trick, even in MK9. Goro and Kintaro are the easiest characters to beat, and Shao kahn is second easiest, because of their weak AI.

I mean the MK3, the first version, where there wasnt any scorpion, ermac, or anything else, just some simple chars

Motaro head looks great!

You have a lot of MK staff done!

Motaro Head
Shao Kahn
MK3 Jax
MK2 Kitana
MK1 Raiden
MK1 Scorpion
MK1 Cage head
UMK3 Scorpion

The only female is MK2 kitana, i guess you want to get strong in male sculpt first.

Just beat MK3 and yeah he's a little more active. But all you have to do is jump kick to counter his jump. Look for an opening and get in real quick, do a combo and hold block.

Keep doing that over and over till he's done. The AI in MK3 seems more fun to play than UMK3, it's not so cheap. Doesn't feel like I have to dance with it.

I just draw guys naturally, it's like that with games too, I almost never pick the Female characters.

100% Agree with you, the MK3 original is cool, its harder, its better, you know xDDD stronger

Nah, we just went for her primary shots ("ready" stance, special moves, high/low punch, etc), but not every frame. Unlike the way they actually captured the actors, I took photos as opposed to video, just for higher quality images to use later. If I knew for sure I could get all 7 characters done... then maybe I'll call her back in to do an entire session. She seemed to enjoy it :)

It'd be my honor if you used any of the backgrounds. That is really cool how she dressed in that outfit and then actually was capable of doing that move.

Thank you so much! Funny thing was, the outfit was actually blue, since I only had a green screen to work with. So I ended up converting her outfit to green in Photoshop. Kinda like what they did with the bulk of the costumes in MK3 by having the wardrobe department make them red... I just went with blue rather than red so I could easily change the costume to green without affecting the skintones. In fact, here's one of the raw shots to show the whole set-up, including her outfit, the green screen, lighting, etc:

I also didn't even think about the fact that she's the age that Sonya was in the first game, at 26... good timing, heh.

Also, expect more shots, but I'll put them in another post... don't want to clutter up this thread with too much non-HD-mugen stuff :-p However, I may post more mock "what if" shots here, just because it's a bit more related than the full-fledged photoshoot style photos. I'm working on a mock "Test Your Might" video, as well as a mock "Sonya's Ending" video. Also, if I manage to snag any male models to play the characters, I may post more here... but if all else fails, I might end up putting my camera on timer mode and playing Raiden

Just to show my appreciation to this thread, and all of those busting their asses to work on this game, I made a little "what if?" teaser poster, had WB/Netherrealm gone forward with an official MK HD Arcade Kollection:

CLICK ON PIC FOR LARGE SIZE!

Wow. I see another Sonya-MK1-fan here;) My personal respect and thanks to you!;)
Long time i didn't post anything, but i'm always here with you guys, this is really cool that the Project continues with an Effort;)

It would be great to see more shots. I have an interest in digitized actor games and the process of filming them. If you put up another thread for them, drop a link. I'd love to see it.

That's really cool, I'd play Sonya HD even if it's just the one character.

I may try a self shot test just doing general movements (maybe Raiden's?), but this time recording on HD video instead of photos, and see how it works... if the test is a success, maybe I'll bring the model back in for a follow up shoot

Of course, the other issue is lighting, as the photos were done with strobes used for photography, while I'd have to use regular "hot lights" (aka, really bright-ass tungsten lights) for video. Then again, it's more in line with how they recorded the actors for the first three games.
