Mortal Kombat 11 General Discussion Media Thread

"Strippers" (stop using that word dude, or go to an actual club, they look nothing like strippers) were always part of MK. I understand changing others who would benefit from more "practical" suits, or providing alt costumes for people who get uncomfortable looking at sexy video game characters, just for diversity sake. That's fine. What I cannot approve of, is when an artist WANTS to make something sexy, but then some corporate dickhead goes ahead and pushes his political views and does not approve. That's textbook censorship and not something I support. You give these jackasses an inch, they will take a mile and never, ever stop.

I dont see how anyone can disagree with this. For those who want modest dressed characters let them pick those outfits and make risque outfits for those of us who prefer that look....I don't understand why people have to be on one side of the fence or the other. I feel like maybe for some people the issue isn't REALLY about the outfits....its something political and thats why they are so against it.

So, I prefer the less skimpy choice, BUT I also prefer that there be choice. While sexiness may be a part of MK’s identity, I don’t feel that it is the identity, and it makes sense to me that people engaged in brutal combat would wear more protective clothing rather than less. But I don’t find even the skimpiest outfits to be offensive or even offputting in the face of a game that allows for disembowlment. I’m said before, and stand firm in my belief that the thing we should be demanding from a game we spend $60 on is quality writing and fun gameplay.

I think it would be the best option. Imagine how much cash they would get for that as well. They could literally make different outfits with different body as well. Boom. You like super grounded realistic outfits? Here you go. You like something super sexy? Here you go. Or maybe you like something in between? Here you go. For 5-10 bucks you can have your look.

Exactly!!! I'd buy all of Cassie Cage's outfits!Sometimes I'll use the Kombat gear and other times i'll use the sexy gear.I like my variety..I'd pay 5-10 bucks for 2 or 3 sexier outfits

And the best thing? They could swim in money from that, but they won't do that. They will just push one design, influenced by politics and then cry that they aren't making money.

Putting guest character intruders who are stealing roster spots from great Native characters who actually do belong (like Sareena and Fujin) is doing something bad.

Which is why said "Native characters" (Fujin and Sareena) belong on the MK11 main roster, and a couple of others who were already in MK9 and MKX can sit out for a game.

I was watching a youtuber who was upset about the lack 3d era characters and he used a phrase that I see get used a lot. "X character deserves to come back"

That really is one of the dumbest things I see on here sometimes. People talking about how NRS is in the wrong because this guy isn't present in the current game. Most of the 3d era don't deserve to come back. They had their chance, and they were terrible. Noob Saibot proved he was a great character, he deserves to come back. Liu Kang is one of the most iconic characters in fighting games, he deserves to be in another game. If I'm a quarterback and throw nothing but interceptions, how the hell do I deserve to come back for the next season?

I'm a fan of a lot of the 3d era characters, but I'm not delusional enough to believe that Kai deserves to be in a game more than Kung Lao or Kitana do. Would it be cool of they got second chances? Of course, but I don't fault NRS for not trying to revive these failures

There are also plenty of Trilogy characters that can sit out: Sindel, Sheeva, Rain, Stryker, Nightwolf, Shang Tsung, Jax, Kano, Sonya.
Those aren't prefect throwing quarterbacks, either (using the same football analogy) and for people (in general) to assume that some of the Trilogy characters also aren't bland or without flaw because they belong in the "Trilogy" category is a terrible assumption to make.
No one (that I know of) is saying that 3D characters should replace Liu Kang and Kitana, for example, but yeah, the above characters that I mentioned also don't need to make the cut every single time, especially since some of those that have descendants or characters that took their place that are also awesome characters (Nightwolf vs Kotal Kahn). As a previous MK9 Nightwolf main, I really don't mind if Kotal replaces him again in MK11. Dude was a badass character that has his story of taking the throne from Mileena put on the back-burner in favor of Shinnok coming back, only for the last 20 minutes of MKX.

They're running out of characters they can even use as guests.

Pennywise and Spawn are the best options. Then I see people asking for Michael Myers (worst possible choice, especially in a game with customization) and Ash from Evil Dead. Terminator is also one I see a lot.

How many guests you think will be in the Kombat pack. I wish 0 but that's not happening so i hope only 2

My guess is 3 per Kombat Pack.
6 guests and 6 MK characters, total (if there is a 2nd Kombat Pack and if that pack has another 6).

I've seen some people asking for Pinhead, but as BBBLP said, they're starting to run out of horror characters.

How about this roster?

Wii version MKA Roster in its entirety
Skarlet
Art Lean
MKX and MK11 new characters who are available out of the box in those 2 games
About 5 or 6 new original characters
No guest characters
No Smoke Doll Toy Factory Accident

There. Everyone gets their favorite MK character no matter what. Everyone, that is, except that one dude who came here with about 10 burner phone accounts to spam HIS favorite.

Hasn't it been like that forever? I think MK3 was the last one released there

Really? I thought they had MK9 and X. I thought it was a bit funny considering I've seen some Japanese movies that make Mortal Kombat look like a morning cartoon.

YouTube just demonetized RGT 85'S video about whether or not MK11 was too gory for the Switch for the same reason.

Looks like we didn't need Jack Thompson afterall!

This would be the ideal solution but I have to admit that the effort required from the developers would be immense. In some cases they'll need to build characters from scratch and then do all those crazy customization options...

Honestly I'd be fine if we had "realistic" characters, drop-dead gorgeous and something in between. Not just one type because NRS are getting their balls busted by some corporate stooge. Let the artists and consumers decide, but this too seems like a pipe dream these days.

And yes, it's not even much about the outfits but more about the censorship itself. Who the hell would like their content to be "moderated" by some idiot who's only interesting in $$$ and brownie points? I think I have enough brainpower to decide that myself :lol

I don't think anyone said anything about the sex appeal being THE identity, it's part of it. Just like the gore, the lore. You look at Tobias' works, which started it all. You look at all the games prior to the SJW fallout. There is simply no denial that it was always there and part of the appeal. They take away the sex appeal, what's there to stop them to nerf down the gore too? They can use the same "realism" excuse. Like I said, give them an inch, they'll take a fcking mile and won't ever stop.

By the way, regarding skimpy outfits and going to brutal combat. Did you know that the female gladiators were actually fighting almost naked? Skimpy outfits are not exactly "unrealistic".

Rain isn't in any game spare for DLC9, so what the are you talking about? Rain has less screentime as the likes of Kenshi, Quan Chi, Bo Rai Cho, and even Tanya. Same goes to Stryker and Sheeva btw.

My point being that not everything from the Trilogy era is flawless, and that even that era has it's fair share of characters who could sit out a couple of games without a problem.
With Cassie, Sonya and Johnny all pretty much confirmed for MK11 I feel like its a bit much to have all 3.
Jax dies in like 3 MKX endings, so Jacqui could also take his place, imo.

So apparently MK11 won't be sold in Japan due to the extreme gore.

Hahaha

I think has more to do with the fact that most Western games are not just popular in Japan. Fallout 3 and Witcher 3 are fairly violent games that got localized in Japan, with latter doing quite well.

I find it funny that Japan does not like extreme violence in video games, but they are okay with it in anime, movies, etc. Anime titles like Hellsing Ultimate, Devilman Crybaby and Berserk are just as extreme with gore as MK. Even movies like Guinea Pig 2 was taken to court because they thought the movie was a real snuff film.

Xenon You make valid points. I’m more trying to say that I’m more concerned with the quality of gameplay than the costumes. As I think the blood and gore is a major part of MK’s identity, I don’t personally believe we’re at risk of having those aspects taken away, though I will concede that once the process of censorship starts, it’s hard to stop or reverse, so at the very least we should be cautious about it.
