Mortal Kombat 1 General Discussion Media Thread

I was always curious why every fighting game seems to have in depth mod support, except NRS games. Is there a reason for this? Are the games hard to mod for or does nobody care. I'm talking about Aesthetic mods btw, not things like MK9 TE. Like the MOST I've seen are just color changing mods, and they're almost always complete dogshit. Like Spongebob colored Goro in MK9.

MK9 mods now allow full custom models. People are importing models from MKX or even better, MK Deception (Ironically Deception models looks pretty great in MK9).
Also yeah. It is hard to mod, cause NRS is using their heavily modified UE3 for MK9/MKX/MK11. The funny thing is, that UE3 engine (even if you modify it) is actually very friendly to modding. It is NRS messy way of doing things, is what makes it hard to mod it. They also use different "compression tools" to save their files, that makes modding even harder.

Now it is only logical to assume, that they switched to new engine by now. You can push UE3 only so much, after Epic has abandoned it years ago. There is a technical ceiling, you can't beat. Killing Floor 2 devs reached it, all the way back in 2016 and... yeah. You can see the effects of that by watching game's performance..

If they are now using UE4-5, it should be easier to mod it, as they had to develop engine, while making the game. So I doubt, they messed too much with it.

So, basically, there was another picture in which the OP to that thread (now deleted) posted picture hints.

Picture #3 was a picture of AFI in which he was saying that the lead singer is Davey Havok - as in, that's a clue for Havik.
Picture #5 (iirc) was a picture of the Hardy Boys from WWF / WWE - as in, the whole "brothers" angle.
Picture #9 was a picture of the World of Light map from Smash Bros. with him saying that a mode like that would be similar in this MK.





Either way, I don't believe that it's mere coincidence and it's impressive that this dude had said these things a year ago that we are seeing now between the kameos, Tarkat disease (which Mileena has) and the whole thing about Sub-Zero and Scorpion being brothers (as shown in their bios).

I wonder what MK character is going to become Havik. Like do they mean an MK character who was playable or just lorewise? Because I'm going to guess its Jerrod.

Also breaks my heart that they reboot the game AGAIN, just for he timelines to be fucked AGAIN.
 
Jerrod is a good guess or perhaps even Noob Saibot (or 1 of the brothers).
Could've sworn that back in the day Havik was originally a new design for Noob Saibot, so I'm wondering if now that Bi-Han is Sub-Zero if perhaps Kuai-Liang gets killed this time around and becomes Havik.
Perhaps Quan Chi fucks up the revenant process or it gets interrupted and Havik is created from that.
Wouldn't put it past Dominic to do something like that.

Yes. Their shitty Unreal 3++++ engine is a nightmare to mod. MK9 got mesh mods some time ago....after 10+ years. Most of it still looks like dogshit, because the NRS modding community is tiny. NRS community as a whole is mostly casuals who salivate over a 4 hour long cutscene, do a fatality a few times then fuck off to another game. So not only the modding community is tiny... There are nobody to even build mods for. MK9TE is proof of that... a massive undertaking, and barely anyone gave a fuck.

As for MK1, I'm sure they're still UE3++++. No where in the stress test small print it said "Unreal 4/5". Ed went on air to say they use "newer Unreal", but that means jack shit as MK11 also used "a new graphics engine"... which turned out to be UE3++++.

It's actually a bit sad how they keep getting away using the same godawful engine over and over. Yeah they changed the lighting a bit, yeah they added Subsurface Scattering.... but guess what? UE3 was already pushed to its limits... In 2016. That game was Killing Floor 2.

Not to mention, I dunno what it is with NRS and UE3, but their input systems are probably some of the worst. :ROFLMAO:

Kameos will also likely be there for klassic Fatalities.
So far, of the 16 main roster kameos, we know of 9 of them:
Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya, Kano, Jax, Goro, Kung Lao and Stryker.
Kameo Scorpion could have the Toasty, kameo Stryker could have his bomb vest or taser and kameo Kung Lao could have 1 of his 2 MKII Fatalities.
So, I could see Kabal's Scream being a klassic kameo Fatality down the line if his kameo is DLC, for example.
Cyrax kameo could mean the Self-Destruct Fatality, Cyber Smoke kameo could mean the Earth explosion one, etc, etc, etc.
A part of me wonders what they consider to be "klassic" Fatalities when it comes to the 3D era kameo's?

But with a base roster being 16 kameos..They would have to crank out some serious dlc. Of course im sure that is the plan.. But come on man...stryker and kabal in the same game? Cant you just feel it...disappointment in the air. Its that time again to be let down by shitty nrs and wb business practices. I honestly feel like they care more about the guests then they do the base roster. And considering how bare bones each Kameo is im really disappointed its much less then the base roster. Especially how easily they can make them

How are Kameos bare bones? They all have intros, win poses, supers, throws and fatalities. They're so much more than just canned attacks.

The Amazon Italy leak listed 5 kameo spots, of which 1 of them is Johnny Cage.
So, I could definitely see his kameo Klassic Fatality being the Decapitation Uppercut, Multiple Heads Decapitation or the Torso Pull.
That's how they're seemingly doing klassic Fatalities in this game (via Kameos).
So, if it's true that Reptile is in the main roster then I could also easily see a klassic kameo for him in which he does the MKII Head Eat Fatality.

Kameos seem to be their klassic nostalgia nod in this game, so yeah, I could realistically see nods with a Kabal kameo doing his Scream Fatality.
Not a fully playable character, as I'm sure that some 3D era ones will be kameos too and this would be a way to have more of them show up.
Is it IDEAL? Imo, no, and I've gone over how I'd prefer full playable characters especially for ones that haven't been playable in 17 years.
I'd rather have more 3D era characters as playable, but I never thought it would even be possible to have 7 of the 3D era characters on another roster, at this point.

So far, if leaks are right, then there will be 7 of the 3D era characters on the main roster with an 8th one via DLC.
5 of those 7 I've been wanting to be playable in an MK game for the last 17 years.
So, while I may have certain reservations about it, I did say that I'd get it if there are more 3D era characters on this main roster than in MKX, and I honestly never thought that I'd see the day. I do give my word, and that does mean something to me.
If Nightwolf, Kabal, Noob Saibot or some others from the first 3 games have to sit out in order to make room for those, then I'm good with it.
Still haven't pre-ordered anything, as I don't think they deserve a pre-order when I don't know much about it what it is in the first place.
Give me the whole roster and then I'll decide.
 
I agree with you there when it comes to guests, and I hate the fact that the flood gates even opened up with that bullshit of Freddy and Kratos in MK9. Now it's been 4 in MKX and another 5 in MK11 and I hope it doesn't grow from there.
5 out of the 11 DLC characters being fucking guests was probably my biggest gripe of MK11.
IF I do get DLC it'll be separately for Quan Chi and maybe if another 3D era character makes the cut and that's it.
The always online horse shit in MK11 also meant that bought DLC and custom set-ups were gone if you didn't connect once to the servers and I hope that that shit is gone this time around like it was during MKX.
It was fucking stupid to not have bought Terminator, Joker, Spawn or Rambo in MK11 and those fuckers still ended up in SP Towers.
Like, there's a fucking reason I didn't want to buy those in the first place to not see them offline, but still, there they were. :rolleyes:

No, they didn't. They said "it seems like UE4". Also since when Digital Foundry confirms game engines now? Until the game specifically says it's UE4/5, it's just hearsay.

The fact that the game is once again 100+ GB, nothing on the store page, Ed just dances around the question and never specifically says what it is, their track record, and still the same graphical artifacts as previously.... my bet it's UE3++++. Remember, Ed recently said in some interview that "we're using a new graphics engine"... Now check this out:

Meh, the gameplay... not feeling it at all. It's way too slow. Very slow throws, pokes are like -3000 on hit/block, I think walk speed has been buffed a bit but that's it...

When they did the "swaggy" Scorpion kombo.... yeaaaahhh.........................
 
Rain being part of the base roster made me laugh. I guess they traded him for Ermac as DLC this time around. It will be interesting to see how many fan favorite characters get regulated to Kameos. It's not looking good for cyborg fans if Sektor and Cyrax are only Kameos. At least they're in the game.....I guess.

I'm really hoping that Asharh, Li Mei, Nitara, Reiko and Havik are all coming in and that the supposed "leak" wasn't bunch of bullshit.

Like, I do want to be optimistic about this game, but NRS is making it really hard for me.

Also, Frost looking like how she should have looked like in MK11, but no. Now relegated to fucking kameo status.

If this shit ends up being another MK11 / Trilogy type roster and the 3D era gets fucked over again, I'm done for good with this fucking franchise, and if that makes me less of a fan for not wanting the same shit regurgitated game after game, then so be it.
I really don't fucking care anymore what anyone else thinks of me.

Like, I'm legit questioning if Havik, Reiko, Nitara, Ashrah and Li Mei will even show up at this point and the only thing that I'm holding onto is that if they do an Outworld or ChaosRealm video next that maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe we'll see Reiko Havik or Nitara.
