Just because it isn't a retelling of MK4+ doesn't mean that those characters introduced in those games don't exist within this new timeline, and therefore would still be available to return in MKX. Reiko is a perfect example of that.

I hope that's not addressed to me, because I'm well aware of where those characters are.
I am simply shutting down the idea that MKX is meant to "do justice" to MK4. That was never its intent.

I hope Fujin is playable too.After seeing how good the Cage's family gameplay looks im sure that the briggs family will undoubtedly be badass as well. i need some mileena gameplay and i will f#ck around and pick up Shinok for this game, i like that move he did at the end, he looks great. I really like Johny Cage in this game He's finally funny in a non-corny way. It even looks like they gave him Shao Kahn's Fatality!!

While I agree with the sentiment that characters from MK 4 shouldn't just be passed over, you need context too of where they would fit in the story. Tanya's story was that after Edenia was freed, she betrayed her people in order to keep herself alive and to potentially gain more power. In this timeline Sindel is given Shang Tsungs power, leading to her being too overpowered for the Earthrealm forces to stop and, in theory, help restore her memories and free Edenia. No freed Edenia means it's not something Shinnok was targeting, thus leading to there being no reason to really align themselves with Tanya due to there being no real plus side to the Neatherealm forces. Her entire story arc from MK4 is kinda irrelevant due to the chances.
Fujin is making appearences, which is good, because he has reason to. Of course, as long as he's still alive, Fujin should really be involved with everything ever beside Raiden. Quan Chi and Shinnok are there, Reiko is all over the comics, even Jarek made a cameo. The only character that hasn't made an appearence from MK4 that I can't come up with an easy in story explanation story for is Kai. But that could just be "Oh, he died during the battle" or whatever. Heck, you could say his death could have been during Mortal Kombat 9's Shaolin raid by the Tarkatans, as being the first "relevant" time line split if you really wanted to.

If I had to guess, the story trailer with so many new characters made everything else house money. It's easy to take Sonya and Johnny as long as the new guys are also in.

LOL @ the Tanya love, she is bland as toilet paper..3D era characters for DLC definitely a possibility after the comics and trailer, though I wonder how NRS is approaching this. Kenshi was probably popular but Rain & Nitara were kind of out there. I'm sure one of Classic MK DLC is a MK trilogy character: Baraka, Kabal, Smoke, Noob or Nightwolf. The other one could then be Reiko, Fujin, Havik or Frost imo.

You're getting your hopes up, my friend. Everyone from that roster has basically been proven to be playable (although not officially confirmed yet). They were very safe picks (with the exception of Kung Jin = bow man) but still doesn't change anything. Let's wait until Friday, where we will get a better idea of how many slots are left, but right now, I am sticking with that roster (as sad as I am about a number of characters being excluded) and if I am wrong, I will be very, very happy.

Cool trailer, liked what I saw for the most part.
Only one thing that slightly bothers me, it seems Johnny has a new voice actor? Not that it's awful, but voice in MK9 was absolutely perfect.
