MK HD Kollection

Re: MK HD Arcade Kollection - online site states 30th June 2011 release

Its obvious that this game was slated for release this year but was cancelled/postponed before it was announced and a lot of these online retailers just didn't get the memo about it. If we see it at E3 we'll know it still exists. Theres a chance they might wait until next year for it. But I don't see them waiting any longer than that because I expect MK10 will be available in 2013 (although will be interesting to see how the next-gen consoles shake out at that point).

Re: MK HD Arcade Kollection - online site states 30th June 2011 release

I haven't seen anything anywhere about the HD Kollection so I am not going to believe this until I get an official confirmation. Anyone could have put this up and it could have been put up around the time the rumors were running wild.

Re: MK HD Arcade Kollection - online site states 30th June 2011 release

simple fact - games are never released on a thursday.....but these retailers are getting the information from somewhere

Re: MK: HD Arcade Kollection IS Real

fan made...

About two years before Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix came out, I posted on a forum (Neowin.net) about the possibility of Xbox coming out with hi-def versions of games and the first game I wanted to see in HD was Mortal Kombat II. So, I made a quick mock-up.

The pictures of Kitana (my fav. MKII character) was from a black and white photograph from behind-the-scenes of MKII I found on the net.

I used an existing background from MK Deadly Alliance or Deception because I didn't have the time to create it from scratch.

This game will probably be ugly.

Part of MK's charm was its amazing stages.

It will look strange to see HD digitized fighters with drawn backgrounds.

Not necessarily. Did you see the fan made Courtyard concept? It basically was high-def images pieced together, but it looked real and wasn't "drawn". Also, two things to keep in mind. 1.) Look at MK9's backgrounds. They look amazing! If they go that route with the HD Kollection, I think that'd work great. 2.) The original MK trilogy contained digitized fighters over "drawn" backgrounds. Just because the HD Kollection would be in high definition doesn't mean it'll suddenly look "ugly".

Re: MK: HD Arcade Kollection IS Real

I made a quick mock-up using Mynandos sprites and a recreation of my favorite stage. While it does look a bit cheesy, I feel that's part of the charm of the old MKs.

Re: MK: HD Arcade Kollection IS Real

i don't get why they don't just bring in different actors to do mocap, and use a 3d scanner to scan their exact body types so the mocap is accurate to each individual's proportions; then rig and animate the hands from video captures. then wrap the images around the 3d scans-sorta like what wargods tried to do, but with today's technology. imo, this is how mk9 should've been made too. why even waste time modeling weird looking figures, when you could just have actual human proportions, like the old games. even if you won't do digitized graphics, you could follow up on what wargods started and marry 3d models with real textures.

I couldn't agree more. The tech has never really been put to use in games. Off the top of my head I can only think of the Max Payne games and of course War Gods. L.A. Noir is doing something similar, but it seems to only be with heads/faces.

I've always secretly wished MK9 would be like this, a "true" return to form.

Re: MK: HD Arcade Kollection IS Real

To co-sign what NaveGnak did with the hd mockup edit, I'd like to agree. Also, id just add that the foundation for whatever method they use to create it just needs to be solid, and they can hit a homerun. Really, all the little things are what makes MK special. The distinct backgrounds, the little hidden secret characters, are all really easy to do once the foundation is set and you don't try to change it on the fly meaning that the game would be consistent all the way through. For ex. most everyones fav fighter is a ninja (male/female) and as NaveGnak illustrated, is just a simple pallette swap. I haven't contributed much to these forums, so I did a little mockup of scorpion pallette swaps.

Remember all credit goes to "LightSource" i believe is the creator of the original drawing. I just modified his drawings.

What do you mean by "drawn"? There was a guy who posted that he worked on the backgrounds for MKHD, and he was heavily skilled in 3D CGI stuff, so I can't help but believe they'll be 3D CGI. Even if that weren't the case I doubt they're gonna be drawing the backgrounds by hand or solely in Photoshop. It's just too simple to create great-looking 3d models.

I couldn't believe it I saw this on the shelf at gamestop and it was like a dream come true..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................then my alarm clock went off and I woke up!

Re: MK: HD Arcade Kollection IS Real

as much as i enjoy MK9 i found myself playing MK2 this morning, saying this is "what its all about" i miss the "digitized realism" the over sized cartoon characters of MK9 annoy me sometimes...unrealistic so the fatalities dont hit as hard for me...i think thats why MK was so controversial back then...the use of real people killing each other....those mock-ups look better than MK9 to me, just for the realism

Re: MK: HD Arcade Kollection IS Real

Fatalities would most definitely have more impact using digitized actors. That's what made them so neat to watch back then.

Sadly, we're in the minority with our desires to see real actors return.

i'd settle for the return to normal sized characters....i like the idea is post #109
