MK Australia Banning Discussion

Re: Australian brothers and sisters should be careful before importing MK

I watched like the first 2 minutes. Here's my question(s) though: Couldn't one of us in the U.S. switch out the cover of the game's box and mail it to you? Like pass it off as some Teen rated game? Then mail you the MK Cover and manual hidden in a birthday card or something?

Yes, I'm being serious. It's not fair to them.

See what happens when Gamestop post an article based on one spokesperson's statement? Without actually educating themselves on the matter?
Now everyone's panicking about huge fines that they wouldn't actually receive. Looks like the scare tactic worked. People need to be aware that the statement about the fines was a lie.

I have had this thought Numerous times, One flaw. They might Check the disk.

I have had this thought Numerous times, One flaw. They might Check the disk.

By checking the disk you mean:

a) they open the case and say: "Hey this is mortal kombat confiscate this.

b) or put a fake label on it and they actually insert it into a gaming system to see what it is?

c) Or get one of those 50 DVD blank disc spindles and swap out one blank for the MK disc somewhere in the stack. Also mail the cover and manual in a separate letter. Nevermind the case.

As for checking the disc by actually getting a PS3 or 360 and putting it in? No way in the world.

I always hear about bans on certain games in certain countries but they always end up for sale in some local shop. Isn't it possible some import shop in Australia will start selling MK9 there?

Re: Mortal Kombat Collectors Edition Austria Release ????

still no release of the collector at gamesonly.at -.-

I'm sure many of you have already gone ahead and ordered anyway, but I'm also sure you're still interested in the game being released locally. So...

Here's an update on the discussion, Gamespot has just posted an interview with the Federal Home Affairs Minister, on the topic of introducing the R18+ classification.
Here's the link: http://au.gamespot.com/news/6305149.html?tag=latestheadlines%3Btitle%3B1

One question specifically referred to the Mortal Kombat ban:
GS: "What are your thoughts on this decision? Was it a fair one, given games currently rated MA15+ feature similar violent content?
BO: "I'm seeking a brief on that decision because there's been public disquiet on the issue."

Sounds like we are being heard after all. The question was a follow-up to the answer that RC games, despite a new R18+ rating, will likely remain RC. However - "it may be that some games that did not make it into MA15+ may find themselves in a position to get into R18+".
It seems that Mortal Kombat may be one of the games that gets through. Let's hope for the best.

I really hope this brings about some change down there and will keep my figers crossed for all of you.

He more than likely said that to avoid disclosing his opinion and suppress follow-up questions.

Even if you were able to import the game. Wouldn't Microsoft and Sony have some sort of region block so that you aren't allowed to play online? Sucks so bad for the Australian MK fans :(

Re: Mortal Kombat Collectors Edition Austria Release ????

I haven't any experiences with this shop but you could try http://www.game4game.at. They also list the Tournament Edition. Good Luck if you decide to going after the TE.

Re: Mortal Kombat Collectors Edition Austria Release ????

So, this is the email I got from mightyape.co.nz this morning.

We have both good news and bad news concerning your order of MortalKombat from Mighty Ape.

Unfortunately Mortal Kombat has been refused classification by theAustralian Classification Board and will not release in Australia. This announcement has been widely reported in the Australian media, and details of the announcement, including a statement by WarnerBrothers Interactive Entertainment, the game's publisher, can be foundhere: http://au.ps3.ign.com/articles/115/1152077p1.html

The good news is that Mortal Kombat will be available for sale in NewZealand, and Mighty Ape is able to dispatch your order from our NewZealand-based warehouse to your delivery address in Australia.

However, the possibility exists that your order may be seized byCustoms in Australia and will remain un-delivered to your address. Itis our understanding that while it's illegal to sell or rent MortalKombat in Australia, it is not illegal to own it. You do not exposeyourself to a fine (unless you try and import multiple copies),however you do risk your order not being successfully delivered toyour address should it be seized.

If you wish to retain your order, we will attempt delivery, however itwill be entirely at your own risk. Where to from here?

I'D LIKE TO KEEP MY ORDER: Please reply to this email **before 31 March 2011** stating that you wish to retain your order, and that you agree delivery is entirely atyour own risk. Mighty Ape will not refund your order in the event of seizure or non-delivery.
I'D LIKE TO CANCEL MY ORDER: Please reply to this email stating that you'd like to cancel yourorder. Alternatively, do nothing and we'll cancel your order automatically on 31 March.

If you have any further questions, please reply to this email andwe'll be happy to help.

i got that email too, nothing we didnt know already. But its good we got confirmation. Has anyone tried asking if they are willing to do something to make detection harder for customs, or delay shipping for a couple of weeks until this dies down a little?

Yea haha, isnt this a great time for some scamming to be done. Not send the game then blame it on customs when we dont get it. Not saying Mighty Ape will do this sort of thing, but the opportunity is there...
