MK: Annihilation

Did you like it when it first came out? I did, it followed the story of MK3 mode in many ways.
Nevertheless, even back then I thought there were too many characters in the one movie, and the fight scenes were not anywhere near as good as the first one. Where the first one was a simple piece based largely on the first movie, the second was a complex one seemingly of MK2 and 3.
No Sektor, Kung Lao, Kabal or Stryker either! Years later, I still don't mind it, but if you are not an MK fan I can see why you would have thought it was diabolical.
Discuss.
 
I'm a massive MK fan and that movie was a writhing pile of freshly dropped Centaur shit plopped and steaming on the shoes of everyone who knows that Shao Fluffing Kahn and Raiden are not brothers. MK fans should hate it more than anyone. For casuals it was just an entertaining fantasy movie with Kung Fu fights, monsters andd robots. But for anyone who knew the story it was a chop to the Adam's Apple. Video game movie adaptations rarely are faithful to the games they're based on, but so few flunk it up like Annihilation did.




















That said, I still have the dvd on my shelf to this day
 
Shao Kahn and Raiden as brothers? Yeah, WTF man? The plot all in all had nothing on the first one. Shinnok as their father too? Who I might add was not mentioned until the end of the movie (it took me years to find that out as well). Very rushed all in all, far too complex for any MK fans.
 
At the time, yeah, I liked it. I didn't care even a little about the liberties they took with the story, I just enjoyed the deluge of faceless ninjas.

I'm definitely not gonna argue that the movie isn't crap, however, 'cause it is. I could go down the laundry list of problems it has, but it's been done to death. We all know the deal.

To summarize: I liked it when it came out; I liked it much less on rewatches; I really have no desire to ever see it again.
 
I forgot about the first part of OP's post lol.

I loved when I first saw it. Of course I was at the age where I thought Kabal was the strongest character in MK3 simply because he looked the fattest in the manual. I actually gave myself a wicked scar from trying to reinact a fight scene. I think it was one of the cyborg fights, but I set up a tower of plastic jars and tried to do a jumping roundhouse. Lost balance as I landed and plowed face first into the base of my grandma's nutcracker statue. Tore off a good portion of my forehead and got yelled at for being stupid.


But I guaran-goddam-tee that those jars never tried to revolt again :shiner:
 
All mk films together are the worst films ever made... And yes I still watch the shit out of all of them.
 
The first MK movie is actually one of the best movie adaptations of a video game, if not THE best. For Threshold Entertainment to follow that up with a total and complete pile of Tarkatan Shit is absolutely shameful, and frankly, I'm glad Threshold never got the rights to MK following Midway's bankruptcy (but that didn't stop them from suing Time Warner like the sore losers that they are)!

I liked it because it was fun to watch Jade beat up Liu Kang, Kitana use her fans, and Mileena and Sonya get into a mud fight. Storywise though, it wasn't very good. I consider it more like a funny parody than an official movie.

Tbh, I think the MK movies are the ONLY movies from video games I have ever watched (although I would like to see Tekken and Prince of Persia movies too).
It is sad, Annihilation was extremely rushed (though having just played MK3 I enjoyed seeing characters from there and the storyline on a general basis), but in general not reall thought out well. Let's hope though, that it won't be the last MK movie(s).

Kung Lao was the one of the only characters not in the movies, or even mentioned (I think the Kung Lao mentioned all those years ago was the Great Kung Lao of 500 years ago). The list would be too long to mention on how to rewrite it in the end.

Sektor and Kintaro also were not seen or mentioned in Threshold's movies. Neither was either version of K/Chameleon.

I think you'll be better off NOT seeing the Tekken movie...

As for Annihilation, garbage movie, but I too was glad that more chars where in it that I knew from UMK3. Ive caught both films on TV in recently days passed. I think 1st movie was on premium TV last monday.
 
they sorta just made a mk trilogy movie when they should have just made mk annihilation a mk2 movie with just surviving mk1 characters and mk2 characters. who knows what the hell they were thinking when they made the movie.

Continuity reasons. The final scene of the first film had Shao Kahn invading Earthrealm immediately after the heroes returned home from the tournament as opposed to a Tarkatan invasion (plus, MK2's timeline relies on Shang Tsung's survival in MK1, which obviously did not happen in the first film). It's also worth pointing out that the first film was released In theaters about 4 months after MK3 was released in arcades, and MK3 was upgraded twice in the span of a year (including the console exclusive Trilogy).

As a kid I adored that movie. When my cousins and I had sleepovers we would rent MK:A and then beat the hell out of each other after watching it.

As an adult I can honestly say that the movie was atrocious. No doubt about it. But I can still sit down and watch it. It's a movie I love to hate. And it has a wicked soundtrack.


Also, Mileena VS Sonya = :adore:
