Let's discuss possible SubZero storylines

Why does it seem like everyone wants everything that happened to Kuai to happen to Bi-Han. It's such bullshit.

Bi-Han as Sub-Zero has got to be one of the most overrated characters ever.

Still hoping for a new Sub-Zero over him.

Also, Armageddon endings are completely non-canon and full of shit. Otherwise Sub-Zero would be a god, and other crazy shit would be happening. They threw those together because they knew they wouldn't have to follow up on it

Also I'm not missing any easy way out on Sub-Zero. If they want it easy all they have to have Quan do is snap his fingers and give Kuai a new body like he did Scorps and Noob Saibot. Bam Sub-Zero's back.

Im not saying i want it to happen, but i see it as something thats probably going to happen if they implement the scar again.

Armageddon endings, yeah, not canon, most MK endings arent, but they still implement ideas introduced in them or find some way to incorporate them into the next game, or sometimes even hint at future storylines. Most MK3 endings are like this. Noob's MK trilogy ending is non canon, but hinted at his role in MK4. One of Armageddons endings is actually semi-canon, Shinnoks. It established that he never fought in the battle of Armageddon and sent a clone in his place, which got killed.

The endings arent entirely non-canon in some cases, just the events leading up to them usually are.

Still, at this point, im assuming its Bi-Han, his and Scorpions pre-battle banter are pointing in that direction.

Bi Han is a much better Sub-Zero. He's a badass, he's cold, he's heartless and has the confidence to back it all up.
He's Sub-Zero because he deserves to be Sub-Zero, not just because there was an opening in the position.

I should really stop arguing with you people it's useless.

However, Kuai took on the name because it's a family name. Not because of his damn brother. The only reason his brother had the name was because he was first born. Kuai took it and owned that shit though. He's the better Sub-Zero and always will be.

Sorry if you guys are some of those damn internet fans who love bad guys. Doesn't make him better.

To be fair, Bi-Han had exactly 1 game where he was primarily Sub-Zero, 2 including Mythologies.

Kuai had 8. 9 including Shaolin Monks.

So of course Kuai is going to have the more developed character and a longer list of achievements in the games.

Bi-Han have 3 if you include Shaolin Monks for him too.

Thats fair enough but in all honesty a weak argument, you could easily turn it around and say it doesn't make Kuai better just because you're an internet fan who only loves good guys. At the end of the day it comes down to what you prefer yourself, personally I like Bi Han more for the reasons BBBLP stated...I prefer the idea of a sort of neutral, cold, assassin Sub Zero over the more heroic archetype, I mean he is a professional murderer after all by occupation as a Lin Kuei assassin.

Internet fans who love bad guys? What does that mean?

Whether it's something like wrestling, mortal kombat, etc... There are certain groups of internet fans who think bad = better.

Just pointing out what I see.

@ sn202

Yeah and you would think having Kuai Liang as the main Sub-Zero in MKvsDC, and giving him 2 chapters in Mk9, plus the tenure, and the fact that they have established Bi-Han as Noob Saibot would let people know Kuai IS Sub-Zero until the next one comes along.

Yet, every game that rolls around the question comes up "So, who is this Sub-Zero?"

Also, I've already established that Story may have nothing to do with these intros. Did the intros have anything to do with story in MK9? It's been discussed that Sub-Zero and Scorpion may team up in story mode.

If that happens then they would have no reason to say this hateful shit to each other. However, have fans not wanted to see these interactions for years? Would NRS not give certain intros to fans who have been waiting years for this? My point is if they are fighting whether it be online, arcade, etc... it woukd make sense from a developer's standpoint to record these intros as Scorps and Subz being rivals.

Wtf? Don't you mean fans in general? I'm pretty sure Darth Vader had fans back when Star Wars came out, pre internet forums.

And it isn't his alignment that makes him so likable for me, it's his personality. The raw arrogance of him.

Firstly, the reason he was Sub-Zero in all those games is because Bi-Han died super hard.

Secondly, it is debatable, maybe not for those games, but certainly for this one where a lot of the character shown hints towards it being Bi-Han.

Also, what the characters in the Intro say are representative of their character, saying "Shirai Ryu DOG!" is not something a defector from the Lin Kuei who actively worked against them would say, nor would Scorpion, who was made very clear the difference between the two in MK9, mistake Kuai for Bi-Han without some sort of reason or seperate event to call him a murderer. Their intros may not be indicative of events that occur in story mode, but it would be very out of character for Kuai Liang to be acting based off of his being a member of the Lin Kuei, considering MK9.

Nope, not general fans. I definitely don't see this with just general or casual fans. For instance my brother used to like MK, but stopped following after MK3. He preferred when they brought Kuai into the picture because he liked the blue ninja, but didn't like him being a bad guy storywise.

Not all fans are this way, in fact it's definitely more of an internet thing I've seen.

Nope it has been debateable since MKvsDC. People were saying they would use Bi-Han in MKvsDC since it was just a one off, but they used Kuai Liang.

In MK9, EVERYBODY swore up and down that Sub-Zero was Bi-Han. His title page on themortalkombat.com said Sub-Zero resurrected. NRS was using this as a way to fool people because back in MK2 what did we all think? Bi-Han had been resurrected right? Except it was Kuai who took his place. So for months people were saying it was Bi-Han and then what happened in MK9? Kuai Liang was the main Sub-Zero. So much so that Bi-Han only received a few lines. While Kuai got two chapters.

I'll say this time that Shirai Ryu Dog does favor Bi-Han. I will also still say I could see "I tire of maintaining our innocence" being Kuai Liang via MK4. I will say though that these intros are fan service for fans who have wanted these interactions for years. This is the first actual time we will get to see this. If you think they wouldn't throw in classic rivalry lines into the intros then you are crazy. Shirai Ryu Dog may be something Bi-han would say, but assuming Kuai Liang has no beef with Scorpion then they have to add shit like that by default.

@bblp
Oh, yes totally. He's the be all end all..... Nah cut on over to MKO you can see plenty of Kuai fans there. Casuals prefer good guys man. It's why superhero movies are made. You want to see good trump evil. It only makes sense that people prefer the good Sub-Zero. TYM had a poll where it stayed neck and neck who the favorite Sub is. Kuai ended up with a couple more votes though. Then there was a link to some poll on here last year with like 8000-9000 votes where Kuai and Bi-Han were listed. Kuai was number 2 behind Scorpion. Bi-Han was either 4 or 5 can't remember, but you get the picture.

So, whats with all this "shirai ryu" dog stuff? Was more MKX footage with dialogue released that I didn't know about? Can somebody clue me in?

Skipping the dead or not dead eyes things. MKX Subzero still has a zombie look on his face, his skin is grayish and pale. He doesn't look alive to me, this calls more for the attention when you compare it to MK9 Sub-Zero with normal skin color and eyes.

Kuai Liang was in Shaolin Monks. We watch him get his scar in that game.

I don't know if that's canon though. I always thought Kuai Liang was given the 'mark' for death by the Lin Kuei. Like a reminder of his betrayl when eluding capture. If anyone knows for sure, please fill me in.

The Kung Loa thing is very silly, in my opinion. They're not enemies, its completely random and uninteresting, and it makes Kuai seem like a clumsy idiot.
