Kung Lao Revealed!

Guys what if this is shujinko. Remember in mkd he said that kung lao is his idol and he wants to honor kung lao

I do think he looks like the Kung Lao we saw on MK9 (yeaaah, that one Shao Kahn BROKE THE NECK IN FRONT OF HUNDREDS OF SPECTATORS), and the GKL didn't have all the hat thing (except for MK: Conquest series).

if he had his neck broken, and NRS have been saying this is fresh, new, next gen, so many new characters, we killed off so mny in the story to inject new blood, and wanted to follow the story of the retelling and have it make sense, there IS NO CONTEXT for his return he DIED....any explanation will be pathetic.

In your view yes, again you don't know anything about why he was brought back only that he has been.

I just want to see game play footage of him controlling his hat.

That sounded... awesome. I want an ability to control hats.

You act as if Kung Lao is Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden and Liu Kang status type popular, which he's not.
He's nowhere near as popular as the big 4 of MK.
Even in Shaolin Monks, Kung Lao was still Liu Kang's shadow.

You are mistaking the status of the character with popularity. Liu Kang is well known and has always been a major part of the story, but that does not mean he is more popular amongst casual players.

For example in Tekken, Heihachi has ALWAYS been the main and most well known character, yet amongst fans, Asuka is the top 2 most popular character with Jun being number 1 (Asuka has never been part of a major story).

Oh please, here we go again. Let's talk about popularity according to whom exactly? I personally think Kung Lao is EASILY one of the most recognizable MK characters in the fighting game scene.

Plus, NRS cannot even design female characters, let alone Asian ones... This is a franchise characters like Scorpion are actually considered "ninjas" LOL what were you actually expecting? Mortal Kombat is a very Americanized approach of Eastern Asian culture, you cannot take it THAT serious. Like MK for it is.

But why only Kung Lao?
Why is he any more important for Raiden to save than the other dead characters?
Someone like Liu Kang I could understand because he died being Champion of MK, and he's a must-have MK character for just about any MK game along with Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Raiden.
Kung Lao is nowhere near THAT type of popularity.
That's my point.

Liu Kang is in no condition to be the savior of Earthrealm anymore thanks to Raiden's actions. So he chose the next best thing. I dunno why he didn't save the others. Maybe it's all just rectonned and they're still alive, and hence your earlier post: open the floodgates for people to request to bring them back from the dead.

The hate is real right now. I don't like the character at all (as I've stated multiple times) but even I can admit he's popular as hell. Kickinwing420, you're killing me with your trolling, fella.

why would u guys think this is a different kung lao? is not like sun-zero where there's a whole clan of them.

anyways it doesnt bother me as much since im interested more in gameplay than story, and I guess nrs just wants to play it safe and give the fans the characters that they love insted of taking a risk bring new characters ppl would hate, but so far nrs has done a great job with the new characters.

the only thing about this reveal is that kung lao still sounds god tier, now he has way more control of the hat, and that hat special move spining around him shielding him sounds broken as f#ck. lets not forget he has a teleport as well. but at least we got some type of news and a glimpse of a new stage.

Kung Lao is a lot more popular than some here give him credit for, a lot of people I know who aren't big gamers but still like MK say their favorite guy is "the one that throws his hat" lol.

I've never heard any casuals refer to the one that throws the hat, but I do know lots of casuals who easily point out the blue ninja, yellow ninja, the Bruce Lee character, the Lightning guy and lastly they always confuse the purple and blue female characters (Mileena and Kitana).
Never have I ever heard a casual refer to their favorite character as Kung Lao, though.

Due to a change in graphics. Kano doesn't have the same face in MKX as he did in MK9, nor does Raiden. Even Quan Chi has a somewhat different face, albeit not that much.

Kano, Quan Chi and Raiden look the same, to me.
Kung Lao doesn't even look Asian in MKX.

Either way, what you describe as a "change in graphics" could also be an excuse for NRS to say that a relative or another White Lotus member took up the mantle.
If MKX is a game about descendants and passing the torch, which Ed Boon constantly likes to remind us about, then this being a relative of Kung Lao or even the Great Kung Lao isn't far fetched.
It's even a perfect excuse as to why Goro is in, to possibly squash the beef and join the Forces Of Light.
