Lol, i think you're confusing Kitana with Mileena. Mileena is the one who has a tarkatan mouth, Kitana never did.

I think this is Undead Kitana's head in the stocks. Look closely and you can see the bun hairdo and scrunchie thing as seen in her concept art. This kinda ties in with one of her dialogues with Reptile about her returning to court. If this IS her about to be executed then maybe she was captured by Kotal's forces along with Cassie, Kung Jin, Jacqui and Takeda after the Shaolin Temple scene and brought to Outworld for a public execution.
Question now is- Does she escape and get restored somehow?

I think it's easier to assume that's a common enemy of the Empire than Kitana.

I think I can be okay with Kitana staying a revenant until the end of story mode as long as she's eventually saved so we can have her again in all her glory in MK11. Maybe then she can really shine in the story.

I'm still kinda iffy about there's been no mentioning of freeing Edenia in this new timeline. It's like that whole part of the story has been dumped into the trashbin.

Well, to be fair, there wasn't any room for it in MK9 and it's way too early to know that MKX won't have any of it.
I'd love it if MK11 was about Edenia the same way MKX is about Outworld. Bring Argus and Jerrod in as characters, invent a few new faces, and let's force Kotal to make some really tough decisions as emperor regarding losing half of his empire.

I noticed something about the Konnection trailer after re-watching it a minute ago.
The scene where Kitana whips out her fans and says something to Cassie before they square off in the Brotherhood of Shadow stage, I think that may be from story mode. Notice that Kitana says something completely different than the previous Kitana/Cassie/Kitana pre-fight dialogue (the only thing I can make out over Steve is Kitana saying "we shall") and Cassie says nothing to her except blow a bubble, and there's no jarring cuts to indicate that Cassie had a bit that was removed.

Look closer, Cassie opens her mouth to talk after the bubble bursts, and then comes the jarring cut.

I really hope Kitana doesn't get killed again in story mode. If that happens......that would be some serious bullsh** wouldn't it?

I think Edenia was freed just after Shao Kahn's defeat on UMK3 by Kitana.
Since she is dead at the time, probably not free yet.

Is good character progression because now she has nothing left to lose. A (somewhat) cold-blooded assassin is the type of character Kitana should be in MKX. Taking Mileena and Quan Chi down and avenging the death of Jade, Liu Kang, and her Edenian people should be her motives.
