Killer Instinct announced for XBOX ONE!!!!!

Ok out of the new soundtrack this one is my favorite thus far

It sounds like an orchestra of bones are playing the demise of someone's life through murder

What does the ultra edition include?
It includes every character that has been revealed except Spinal and Fulgore, which will be released later. (but you get them for free beacuse they are part of the packaged season 1 pass) and killer Instinct 1 the arcade game.

Here's the break down of each version for those looking to pick up the game

"Killer Instinct Round One: The free-to-play version of the game comes with one character that is rotated weekly. This lets Xbox One owners try out the game and find the characters they like. The inspiration behind this model is that most people have one or two favorite fighters that they use often and so players can buy only the ones they like for cheaper than purchasing the game.
Killer Instinct Combo Breaker Pack: A basic $20 version of the game with all eight of the Season 1 characters unlocked, but with no extra costumes or accessories for the characters.
Killer Instinct Ultra Edition: A special edition of the game for $40 that comes with all Season 1 characters, all their costumes (eight) and all their accessories (16) as well as the original Killer Instinct.
Killer Instinct Pin Ultimate Edition: A $60 version of the game only available from the Microsoft Store, it comes with everything in the Ultra Edition as well as a collectible tin case and two collectible pins. This version of Killer Instinct comes with a downloadable code, not a disc, and more pins can be earned through in-game and community effort.
Note that only four characters will be available at launch (Jago, Sabrewulf, Glacius and Thunder), with the recently announced characters Sadira and Orchid planned to become available shortly thereafter. A special character, Shadow Jago, is also available to those who purchase the special Day One Edition Xbox Live 12-month membership cards. The two other Season 1 characters, Spinal and Fulgore, do not have official release dates yet.

hope this helps

I'm still very much "on hold" with next-gen systems, much less KI. Although the reveals of Orchid and Spinal renewed my interest in the game (Let's face it: Had DH screwed up Orchid, they could kiss this game good-bye), I still have reservations about this "micro-transactions" strategy.

From what I read, and those who have an XBO and KI, keep me honest, the game is pretty much incomplete for all intents and purposes right now: No arcade mode, story mode, and revealed characters coming in March, more there after?

Maybe it's because I'm old and set in my ways, but I like to see the whole shebang upfront like "back in the day" before I plunk down up to $40 for a game let alone hundreds of dollars for a new system just to play it since it's a launch title.

While I'm not completely opposed to the micro-transactions pricing, I think the whole roster, game modes, etc should be available at launch for people to pick-and-choose from instead of having to literally "wait and see" what's coming. That said, use the traditional DLC model to add more content based on fan requests/responses to the game that wouldn't be necessarily planned at launch to help keep the game fresh.

I fear that this may well in fact be the new way games are going to be created and released. I sincerely hope that if it is, it's not exactly in this same vein. The model has advantages and if done right can be a great thing for gamers, but this model KI is going I'm not sure is the best way especially since fans have waited over a decade to see KI return.

More than likely KI is only this way because they didn't have time to finish it by launch. So they focused solely on the bare basics to have something to give when the Xbox came out.

Story mode is coming when Fulgore is released.

I think they should of just completed the game.

Microsoft disagreed. And so do I.
KI is a system seller for a lot of people I've talked to.

I don't see anything wrong with this. It's essentially a paid beta.
You pay for the full game, you get the full game, as it comes out. And if you don't want, you don't have to pay at all.

I am not saying it's a bad game, I'm just saying that this "wait for are fighters to come out." Is just fuking dumb. I'm am going to wait for a year or two to get this game

Microsoft has been trying to weather a torrent of bad publicity from Windows 8.x, Surface, the retraction of the always-online and used games DRM policies, if it's true DH didn't have enough time, then that's just status quo it seems.

I agree with D Dog, the game should have been 100% complete by launch day. Obviously patches would be needed to clean up glaring flaws, no game is ever perfect on release, but the fundamental content should have been complete and ready to go, everything else like extra characters outside the main/planned roster and other content should be additional DLC.

KI while a niche franchise, is still beloved by a massive amount of folks. The MK9 release is how I think KI should have been handled. I've posted before that MK9 was an incredible celebration of a franchise that is loved the world over and NRS was not shy about it either. They understood the fan base, gave away tons of content for free, which, outside the quality work they did with the game, showed their appreciation to fans as well as respect/love to MK.

I watched the almost two hour reveal of Orchid and DH really seems to get that. When you say, "Killer Instinct", chances are Orchid is probably the first character to pop into peoples' minds. DH even said, they had to get Orchid right, not just in play-style, but also in how she looked and sounded because she is face of KI.

However, the franchise as a whole should be given that level of respect too. Again, like B-B-B-LP mentioned, it could be poor planning or simply how the industry will go in the future when releasing games, but I think a lot of people would rather know the whole package upfront and what's available.

I think with the launch of a new system and using a popular franchise like KI at launch, this "bit-by-bit" model cheapens a great franchise like KI and is a little insulting to a dedicated fan-base.

100% by launch day?
You do realize that this game began development late last year right?

You can't compare MK9 to KI3.
KI not only is a revival game, but also a launch title and a supposed system seller. A lot more was riding on KI being able to be out at launch. With less than a year they had no choice but to rush.

And Fulgore is easily the posterboy of KI.

I am not saying KI is nothing to MK. I just like MK more.

My past experiences with these forums have shown me that sometimes it's better to agree to disagree and walk away. However, I will leave you with these thoughts.

KI has to work two angles: Be a draw for the new system, spurring sales and also reinvigorate/reassert itself as a respectable franchise rather than a "me too" game. This is where I question the microtransaction pricing model because they could have easily blown it out of the park had all content been available for purchase from the off rather than the "wait-and-see" route they are taking.

All I'm saying is that if KI was that important as a launch title, one would think development would have started sooner rather than later lending to a more complete, finished product at the all-important launch to help meet/exceed expectations of a community that has waited over a decade for a new KI and by extension, help bolster XBO sales even more so.

And Fulgore is easily the posterboy of KI.

I did say, "...Orchid is probably the first character to pop into peoples' minds." Fulgore too absolutely, but I don't think Fulgore has done anything as memorable as Orchid with her "check these out!" No Mercy/Ultimate Combo finisher. :_wink:

I already dislike the F2P business model as it is. However, selling future content, bothers me even more.

I guess it might be appealing for players who only want to stick to using one character, for but someone like me who likes to try everyone out, I would rather pay for all content and be done with it. This only gives me a reason to wait before getting the Xbone.
