Is there a reason?

Kabal's scaling. Is there a reason it is soo bad >.<
I mean come on, his ''stun'' followed by an X-ray does 27% but usually does something like 33%?
Just as an example, other characters like Sub Zero can stun an opponent and X-ray them for decent damage.

This isn't a moaning thread or anything, I just wanna know if there is a major reason for his scaling to be bad :P

If Kabal is played the right way with his block string there is no need for him to have high damage that would make him OP

I got caught in 1 and I just had to take it I was hoping for his thumb to slip

DId you see my post in the Bad News Jade thread? Check it outt

BUt yeah Kabal....... Doesn't need any damage scaling adjustments..... He can already do 30-38% EASY... and again the jailstring....

Im not familiar with ''Jailstring'' (In all honestly, dont even know what it is) and yeah Xrays arent used really but if it was, it does nothing with Kabal's stun :P

I posted about this in the Kabal thread. I have played a few characters and Kabals kombos ARE stupid.

He has combos that when you add moves in it does less damage. Even some of his hard combos do like 26% damage - they require timing and skill, yet he has easy ones that have 3 moves and have the same damage. If you have a spin in there the damage becomes almost nothing.

I have a few combos that I can add complexity and a few hits in the middle (with dash) and they do the same damage as the combo without all the added hits in the middle...so you are rewarded for lazy or more basic play basically.

I have not seen this in any other character (though I have not played half of them in depth).

Compare this to someone like Ermac - a player new to Ermac cam make a 40+% combo up himself in 5 minutes of practice and they are almost impossible not to land!!

Learn to use meter for EX and breakers...

Very few characters have good use for x-rays when compared to the combos they can do with EX moves

Ermac's x-ray are totally worth using, you can get an easy 60% combo with it. Nightwolf also has good over 50% combos, but his enhanced specials are better. Besides Kano and Jax, Kung Lao, Johnny Cage and Liu Kang's x-ray can be deadly too.

So, not many characters have a viable x-ray, but... it depends on how you use them.

Sindel's hits as a low so it almost ALWAYS catches people off guard. Baraka's you can combo into, Cyber sub's you can get a 50% corner combo in. MOST X-ray's are viable and it takes skill to do some of the combos into them.

No, not "MOST" of x-rays are viable at all. Out of near 32 characters, only a very small amount of them actually have viable x-rays worth wasting 3 meter bars. Sindel's x-ray is so, so, so poor to use in a combo due to damage scalling, it's not even worth bother with that and to actually make a over 50% x-ray combo with her, you have to have great timing which doesn't happen online. Yes, it hits low, so what? 31% for 3 meter bars? Kitana and Cyrax are probably two of the best examples where the x-ray is almost useless and MOST of the x-rays are not really worth using compared to breakers and enhanced specials hence why in tournaments it is very, very rare to see an x-ray.

I watched a few vids of the "top" players at that big comp where Kung Lao player won and saw quite a few x-rays. To say they are for noobs (above and not your words) is rather patronising and arrogant. In the right circumstances they = game over. Are the players at the tournies that used them noobs? IIRC a few of them are worshiped around here.

Quantify "quite a few" please. In the Evo finals, I remember probably three and that was it - that's far from being "quite a few" in the number of matches in the top 8.

And I don't mean x-rays are "useless" per se - to finish a match, they're great, but in normal circunstances, people will use meter bars for breakers and enhanced specials and most characters seem to be more viable and efficient that way IMO

I'm gonna have to have Voncroy's back on something for once. The main reason a top player has a Xray built up is because they are either ahead and feel no reason to burn unnecessary meter. They simply didn't see a opportunity to burn one. If your at full bar why not? You're not getting any more meter when its full. Or if they want to deal unbreakable damage.

Or they are in a matchup where Xray kills their opponents options immensely. Such as subzero vs reptile where whoever gets an Xray first makes it where their opponent cannot use a projectile safely. So they'll hold onto their xray because of the fear advantage if eating an Xray for a projectile.

Any other time they are breaking out of combos and using enhanced moves to open options/open a combo opportunity.

I think you aree missing my point. I was responding to the that view that they are only for noobs. we all know they are used by good players too. Yes they use their meter to the situation, but that includes x-rays.

Honestly, meter is an invaluable tool and I NEVER use Xrays unless I am a pixel and they are 30%.... Just no other good reason, unlesss you are cage with his counter or sindel that can use hers in mixups...

Yea I agree with what you are saying. X-rays are still a tool for pros. It's just alot more rare than EX-moves.

In Jade's and Kabal's case... you should really never see an X-ray enhanced spindash thing from kabal is too good to pass up. And so is Jade's Meter moves.

but subzero will commonly hit X-ray status as his only REAL REAL useful one is the ground freeze for combos.

yeah it's not a tool ONLY for noobs, but noobs do use it WAY more than professionals.

Remember that round of Perfect Legend vs Reo? Where perfect legend kind of opened up with an X-ray? His mentality was probably he's got full meter at the start of the round. Might as well take that almost 50% damage combo now, and most likely build enough meter for a breaker before he even dies. So massive advantage that round.
