I'm New and I need help!!

dude if you like characters that are unpredictable and full of tricks, pick someone like mileena, ermac, quan chi and scorpion...but if you like Johnny Cage type of character, i'd recommend Liu kang too

Too often people go into a game with the mindset of "Mr X is in and he is cool and badass and im going to main him for sure", and that doesn't work for me anymore.

I have to take a character into the training room, and play around with them. Get a feel for them. If I enjoy using them in the lab for longer then 30 minutes, that's a pretty good indication that i'll enjoy using them on a more permanent basis.

Seriously, just take 5 characters at random and hit the training room. Do some basic BnB's, test out your own corner combos, juggles and see what you get. In this game you definitely need to have a taste first.

30 minutes isn't ever really 100% enough.

I actually 100% disliked training with skarlet for hours straight in the lab. IT was WORK to me. HOURS not 30 minutes. And then a few more hours and days of online fighting experience in PvP to grow my meta-game with her. After all that "work" I now really enjoy playing as her. She's work because she's technical and that turns people away. But once you get the tech down. Fast technical characters are fun as hell, as their options are a bit more plentiful than most other members of the cast.

I don't know, I never thought I would like Kano until I played with him in the lab and I ended up loving him. About three nights ago I took Cage, Kabal and Raiden into the lab and I just didn't find them fun to use, with the small exception of Raiden. Cage is just a one trick pony in this game and I just wasn't feeling Kabal, which is strange as he was my favourite in MK III. I mean considering I like characters that rush, I thought Cage would be perfect for me, but he's just lame and easy as Hell to use.

I have been feeling that out of Skarlet and Sonya, I would rather play Skarlet, but I know I would have really dedicate time to her. I honestly think Skarlet is the most powerful female ninja in the game. Ermac is also someone else that intrigues me, and he may be the first male ninja I pick up in this game.

Ermac's My best Character, and I know how to pressure with him. Hit me up sometime and I'll discuss with you

sorry i don't know where it's appropriate to post this but i really need some help...My cousin bought me MK9 as a Christmas gift...I used to play MK1-MKTrilogy and then after that i switch to King of Fighters. I haven't been keeping track of the MK series for a while now...For the last two weeks, i've been playing MK9 nonstop and i was getting pretty good with Johnny Cage so far...He's combos are easy to use and he's one of the faster character as far as i can tell...

I fought my cousin a few times and i think i actually did very well...until i was up against Noob Saibot..There's nothing i can do in this match up..usually i can just block my way through the projectiles..but with Noob, the shadow just push me back a little every time i block..and if i jump, i kick the shadow upkick...Is there a way i can get around this? I'm getting very frustrated and i don't wanna throw my PS controller at the screen lol...

I want to add another character but i don't know who's good..i just want someone easier to use as a starter...thank you everyone...

lol wow you're not bad. Thank You for the matches today man. it was a very even 12-10 until we got dc. The way you play Cage is annoying as hell lol. your Liu Kang's not bad either. It doesn't take very long for a fighting game person to adapt to a new fighting game. See you in Chaosrealm sometime

if you use ps3 i strongly suggest you stay away from kratos he's sluggish and hard to get in with but does massive amounts of damage easily. i'd say use a more free flowing character like the ones stated above. hope this helps anyone whose looking for a good character to start with happy hunting. :) :) :)
