I believe....(spoilers)

The list is right. Along with Skarlet and Kenshi as DLC.

you seriously believe Rain is not in the initial game and also not in the first DLC batch? first of all that article didn't claim this is the first batch, they said those 3 would be DLC later on. and second, why on earth after so much harassment, tweets, polls in mk forums would the mk team first give us as DLC those and not Rain who is the only character along with Motaro and robot Smoke that make sense to be first DLC choices?

According to the leaks, he wouldn't be in the initial game, but that could all change. They might've done his character model but not his ending and bio. All of the info. you put forward about Rain being the most wanted, though really supports his inclusion. NothingRhymesWithcircus is most likely incorrect on initial roster and butting Rain out of the first DLC.

Read the quote I took out from this article on my sig. The only two DLC characters this time around are going to be Kenshi and Skarlett. Straight from Hans Lo's mouth. Rain will more than likely be in the second batch of DLC characters but he is definitely not in the first batch. He said these are THE TWO DLC characters this time around. He didn't say "two of the dlc characters we're releasing are..."

And he's definitely 100% not playable in the final version of the game. So I'm sorry =( I feel bad for you Rain fans but he's just not coming anytime soon. Even though Kenshi and Skarlett are DLC they can't develop a fully functional character in two months. It takes alot of time. Lupinko said himself that he saw Skarlet in February. And around the same time we saw Rain in the background of the Temple stage in his MK:A model. Also around the same time he was taken out of the background and Ed Boon asked if Rain should be DLC. He will DEFINITELY be DLC, but not in this first batch. It takes more time than that.

EDIT(hint): If you PM the right people on these forums you'll get the initial roster for the real game including secret characters. Nuff said.

Okay, so let's go with him not being on the initial roster. Nothing Hans says is excluding Rain from the DLC. The quote I believe you are taking it from is this:
"[The two we're adding] are Kenshi, who players will recognise from previous MK games, and more excitingly we're adding Scarlet.
I'm pretty sure you know quotation protocol and the brackets usually signifies exclusion of words and inclusion of words made up by the one who is quoting the statement. We won't know what they excluded from Hans' statement but if that was his intention to say so, why would they have to edit his statement? It just doesn't make sense.

how can you be 100% on him not being initially in the game even as an unlockable? and it STILL doesn't make ANY sense at all to first give as DLC Kenshi who's way post mk3 and a glitch female character rather than Rain

I thought the DLC news was bogus?

EDIT: Nevermind, just read the news.

"[The two we're adding] are Kenshi, who players will recognise from previous MK games, and more excitingly we're adding Scarlet.

"Anyone who knows the history of Mortal Kombat will tell you that back in the days of the arcade - when they did just palette swap characters to come up with multiple fighters in the game - there was a glitch in one of the old arcade machines that caused the Jade/Katana/Milena female ninja to glitch and turn red.

"People always thought it was a hidden unlockable character and it wasn't, it was purely a programming glitch. They've always speculated and in fact it was the fans who named her Scarlet to begin with. She's no longer a glitch - she's an actual character, and she'll be coming pretty soon post-launch."

Another character said to be planned for the fighter is MK2 sub-boss Kintaro. Netherrealm said it'll continue to work on DLC for Mortal Kombat "as long as people are playing it".

The only thing that doesn't make sense is that a producer of the game, who wants people to buy the game and the DLC, would just completely not mention Rain when advertising the DLC. There is no reason for him to keep it a secret. They want people to want the game. It'd be very unwise of them just to leave Rain out if he was truly DLC anytime soon.

I see where you're coming from. But its the decision NRS made, I don't know what to tell you. I would like for you to be happy but I'm just stating that they didn't put him in the game yet =(

The quote you're talking about has brackets around the subject. I wouldn't read too much into bracketed phrases because they weren't said; they are inserted by the editors post-interview to identify ambiguous pronouns in a direct quotation.

By the way, ninja, I could tell you are a big Rain fan. Thanks for all the contribution.

It makes sense for the MK team though. Those who are out to buy the game were already MK fans, people impressed with the gameplay aspect, or Kratos fans. I highly doubt they'd use DLC as a marketing ploy. This is icing on the cake for the fans and the MK team being the secret keepers that they are, are trying to keep the hype train up until release. It only makes sense that they are trying to keep secrets left.

And the only reason I quoted that specific part on my sig is because I couldn't quote the whole article. The whole article is about Kenshi and Skarlett being the only DLC characters for release.

I thought the DLC news was bogus?

The Kintaro part was wrong. It was a misinterpretation on NRS's part. They cleared it up on the article I posted.

I only know Ed Boon and that hector guy so I have no idea who that Hans Lo person is. and yes, it would be weird for him to 'forget' mentioning Rain during a DLC promo but again, only Rain and Motaro make sense to be first DLC choices. unmasked Subzero is not needed obviously, Smoke is in as human so having robot Smoke would be great but obviously as DLC or via a third alt costume and robot Smoke having his own moveset or whatever.. and then, from MKT only two are left out, a boss and a normal player, Rain. due to the story leaks my guess is motaro won't be joining us and then there's Rain who is normal and he's the only one left to complete the trilogy, the most popular choice, hell even people who are ignorant towards him want him to complete the trilogy. and even despite all this, thje polls, the tweets in favour of him, all this stuff, this franchise is supposed to be retro mortal kombat covering mk1-umk3 with the new graphics and all that, it would make sense for Rain to be either in the game or in the first DLC since he's the only normal player left out that's not a duplicate to complete the retro feeling that the mk team themselves have been promoting so far. this game is supposed to be oldschool, getting freaking KENSHI first or a glitch character does NOT make sense over Rain

hell yes :D but I really hate all this :( when I first heard the new mk game would come out, I expected everyone from trilogy to hit the roster no questions asked. now, my favorite character is still in doubt and I HAAAAAATE this, so much anxiety over this and tjhere is no reason, they could have just made MKT new-style and adding new chars or post mk3 chars as DLC. now it's all like will he be in, won't he be in, blah.. I just hope he's shown in a gameplay video and get it over with already :/

All your saying makes 100% sense.
But in the end it was NRS's decision. I don't know why they didn't include him, but they didn't. He does deserve to be in the game. I'm not arguing that. I'm just saying that he isn't.

Maybe every body that buys the game brand new will get a code for Rain DLC. And they're keeping it a secret?

Edit: While I agree that Rain should have a fair shot at being in the game, and while the demo leaks could have and most likely did change, Rain is no where in the story, and it wouldn't make sense to include a character in game that had no valid reason for being there... other than fan desire.

So as NothingRhymesWithCircus has been stating.. I, too, don't think he's included in game, but he will be, in one way or another, DLC.

I really hope your connections are wrong man :/ that character has such amazing potential and I love him, if your words become reality and not only they exclude him from the initial game but also from the first DLC batch then they must reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally REALLY hate his guts

Perhaps the demo they gave us (where all the leaks came from) had the information on Rain specifically ripped out to hide his existence.

Nah, I'm pretty sure they would of ripped out alot more than that if they knew people we're going to extract the files from the demo, lol.
That's the only reason the whole entire story was spoiled. And the super secret cold character in the game. And the NRS crew even stated that they were very disappointed that the fans did that to the demo.

hahaha

No matter what, I have high hopes for Rain appearing. I really don't see why he shouldn't (or couldn't). If he doesn't make it on the final roster, I wouldn't doubt he would be a DLC at some point. They released Jill Valentine and Shuma-Gorath a month after Marvel vs Capcom was released so if he isn't available right away, for whatever reason, there is still a chance he will be included later.
