Frost for MKX

The problem with Tanya is that she didn't look anything like Tanya. She looked like a new character just with the same name. The face was different, the hair was different, even the damn skin colour was different. Frost is still definitely recognizable, although with a lazy outfit yes...

Don't get me wrong, I like the outfit as well but the problem is that it is on another character. They have concepts of her wearing the Kuai Liang outfit as well and granted that Sub-Zero is in that outfit more in the story than the other outfits, he still has that outfit.

It would just be better to design Frost as an individual character rather than showing that she's just a female version of said character. And that is the problem a lot of people have.

I may be one hell of a die hard fan of hers and I honestly would not be the kind of fan that would cry to Netherrealm if they decided to keep her look like that if she is to make it in the DLC packs, I just would like it if they could finally make her unique and not look like Sub-Zero again. And unfortunately, I don't think they will change her.

Yes, I understand, I mean, I'd rather them show Sub-Zero on another outfit (because that one, as I said, it's cool, but I got the impression they did that to not reveal it was Kuai Liang) and let Frost with the one she used on story.

I also don't think they will change.

Hair and face was never that consistent with MK games in the first place, some more drastic than others. Most characters rely on recurring themes and patterns of their costumes. Frost is is exception in that she is recognizable more by her hair rather than her costume.

Imho her MKX look suggests her inclusion was a last minute decision. It's just a copy/paste of S-Z that took probably an hour or two to put together. Kinda a shame. This way they'll never be able to flesh her out. Although, at the same time, for such a small cameo doing anything else would've been kinda pointless. But yeah...

Ehh... you know she has four concept drawings made for her and one front and back for her complete outfit, right? Something like that doesn't really say to me, "they're last minute."

Even Sareena who has like an even shorter cameo has concepts as well.

Not to mention, she's in an interaction between Sub-Zero and Sonya... I don't really think that says she's last minute.

It is a sacred thing for an artist to make concept art. NPC' s have concept art as well.
I am with [MENTION=17921]Mr. Ice[/MENTION] on this one.

While Frost indeed had 4 different designs made for her as concept (maybe more, if we are counting all the drafts), most of them barely differ from Sub Zero designs. You said it yourself. Hell everyone sees that. Her clothing is super heavily influenced by Sub Zero. Not to mention out of 4, they chose the one which resembles default Sub Zero the most.

While it obviously took way longer than 1-2 hours to make, it still feels like "eh, we need to put Frost for the sake of putting her in".
 
I dunno, there are some things they've designed for background stuff that just doesn't feel "last minute" to me.

But who knows unless you actually ask them, eh?
 
While the main characters tend to get more attention/revisions, even NPCs need concept art to ensure that they fit in with the game's world.
 
Ok I am done with MKX. I will keep Frost petition going for people who are Frost fans/or have MKX on consoles or will stay and wait for PC version fix.

I am really glad now they didn't pick or notice my designs for Frost on MKKollective (one way or another they wouldn't use it anyway). I'l just change name and give this design different role in different game.

Thanks for putting up with my thread. I will still answer questions, if you have any on this thread.

But I seriously have grown tired of treatment PC community got.
 
She looks like Sub Zero because she is wearing the Lin Kuei uniform which looks like Sub Zero's like all off the other Lin Kuei disciples. If she was a playable character or at least showed up in a different context id agree with the complainers but as it is, i cant. Actually i wouldnt mind if for this game she was a SZ skin but that probably wouldnt do her any favors lol.

I hope that if she shows up in the next game her alt is her comic fighter look.

No other Lin Kuei wears anything like what Sub-Zero and Frost are wearing. Femme Fatales reveals that they intentionally made her look similar to Sub-Zero with a feminine touch. So it's clear that they wanted her to be closely associated with Sub-Zero specifically and for her not to look like the generic Lin Kuei.

Boon already said they wouldn't make a character into another's skin, Sub-Zero also plays far differently than Frost ever did and is based around Extreme Turtle and slow heavy blows while Frost is faster, offensive and is for many weaker blows for comboing.

It's like suggesting Kintaro and Sheeva be a Goro skin or Liu Kang to be a Scorpion skin or even Shang Tsung being a Quan Chi skin. Doesn't work, makes no sense and cheapens all characters involved as well as insults NRS's creativity.

Even if they share similar professions or race, they are still unique individuals with different personalities and DIFFERENT DESIGNS to show that individuality/difference... and then there is this

wow that doesnt look like anything Sub Zero would wear/has worn at at all.

Of course she's gonna be wearing Sub Zero inspired clothes, by default all LK are and on top of that, her original design has her looking like him too. What she is wearing fits both in the meta and in universe contexts.
 
While it maybe nothing more then just npcs, it would be a quick buck for NRS. Yea they have to do variations and some graphic tweeks, but Frost, Baraka, Rain, Sareena all have models. This maybe just be a stretch cause of tanya being a NPC then DLC, but it seems feasible. I know some will say that's a simple skin etc., but it's pretty much guaranteed their will be another pack. I don't they will abandon the games anytime soon with the sells and hype for it. I also wouldn't be surprised if some of these npcs show up as future dlc with a new.

Overly defensive is an understatement.

Anything negative it seems, it's immediately being taken bit by bit to go and say what's wrong about what you just wrote despite that
1.) not that many people cares about the minor differences in the outfit
2.) it's been beaten to death already, more beatings is just punching the ground.

Enough with this outfit issue. Let's talk about actually a story that could make her seem interesting, eh?
 
Well, i think that she is being set up for a similar story, minus being freezed again perhaps. The orphan carving her way in an underground fight club sounds like a way to make her a "proud asshole with a reason"

Frost kinda reminds of Azula from Avatar the last airbender. Which ends up with her being crazy...
