Ermac confirmed for mkx? (pic in thread)

Its not really a ninja costume but you can't tell me you wouldn't identify that as Ermac first glance.

Not at all.
If it didn't have the souls around it, I would have guessed Scarecrow from Batman, not Ermac.
The MK9 bandage face wrap look is a good look for him, and you can still tell it's Ermac.

so over cartoon kombat

I don't know what the hell you were playing, but MK9 sure as hell doesn't = cartoony.
The atmosphere in MK9 was reminiscent of the atmosphere in MKI.
MKII was darker, as MK X seems to be, but MK9 is far from being cartoony.

If it becomes purely dark and gritty, it would be the most pretentious, eye rolling pile of shit ever. The concept just doesn't go with 100% seriousness. You're just trying to take the fun out of the game. Lets take Scorpion and Sub zero out, too? How about gameplay next? Let's take out everything that's not a fatality and call it a day, because that's the only aspect of MK right?

No.

Go and play something else, because you're trying to make MK something that it is not.
This.
THANK YOU!!!

Nah I didn't get the vibe of mk1 from mk9 at at all, that's just me...It felt cheesy, I'm only really talking about the story and the presentation, it was just very cartoon like to me... The dialog, the colors, the tone...

I really am looking forward to seeing mkx in action though. And I hope its reminiscent of the trailer.

What are you talking about? Soul Calibur characters get different costumes consistently. Yoshitmitsu in from Tekken changes constantly, but otherwise is the characters have been stable for the most part.

Even so, I fail to see what is achieved by changing designs constantly. Change for its own sake? Mario and Sonic have hardly changed and they are among the most recognized characters. Ryu's red headband and white dogi are part of his iconic look.

Even for MK, it's not the embellishments that makes Scorpion recognizable....

Obviously, I don't play those games as much, so I apologize, but from the stuff I've seen, it just looks like the same stuff with minor changes to the costume.

But the point I'm trying to make, is that I don't want to keep looking at the same old costume over and over again. Sure, characters have their iconic features, but is it that bad of a thing to want a change of appearance? According to majority of you, yeah, it is.

Which I find completely funny because I can think of two characters that had a drastic change and they're Sub-Zero and Reptile.

So many people "liked" (*shivers) Reptile's Deadly Alliance look, and that was a completely different costume that we've never seen before with Reptile. And people STILL recognized him as a Reptile.

Sub-Zero's Shredder look was a look we've never seen before with the "ninjas" of Mortal Kombat. But people jumped on the fan wagon for his look (not sure about his pony tail one).

There can be change to the look and people can still recognize the characters. It's not that hard to just look at something for a bit and appreciating the work instead of immediately going to the first thing that pops into the mind, which is either Scarecrow or an Assassin's Creed character.

!!!

I don't disagree. I'm fine with the wraps. But if we got something like this fan art or his MK9 alt, I really couldn't complain either.

However, if I was shown that picture again for the first time, minus the souls, I can garuntee to you that I'd guess Ermac before I'd ever guess Scarcrow.

I like the way that Ermac looks. HE doesn't look a lot like a Ninja but he still looks awesome. He looks very dark. If that's his new look on the game, there's a chance a lot of characters are gonna be dark looking. I wonder what his story is gonna be for Mortal Kombat X though. He didn't show up in Mortal Kombat till Deception till on the last timeline.

You say that now because you have prior knowledge of it being an Ermac fan art / concept.
Minus the souls, if you just showed most people that that random picture, without any other info, I'm pretty sure that lots of people would look at it and go "It looks like Scarecrow" or even a "Cool, a new Assassin's Creed character."

Sub-Zero and Scorpion pictures from the new MK X trailer are unmistakable.
If you took a picture of the new Sub-Zero and Scorpion, and posted it without prior knowledge of a trailer, everyone would still know who those 2 are, which is my point.
It's not that black and white with this Ermac concept.
Souls aside, this Ermac concept is drastically altered and deviated from the Ermac that people are familiar with.

Who cares?
How many times do we have to see the same designs with hardly any change?

This new Ermac (If it is his final look) is fresh and interesting. You don't need to immediately recognize him from his look. The announcer says his name when you choose him

With that though process, then:

ERMAC WINS!!!!

Araknyd has a point, characters should have a consistent identity to them. Throughout the 6 Tekkens and their spin-offs, even though Yoshimitsu has completely different appearances in each, you can still instantly identify him.

Incoming Sektor design, lol.

Announcer says "Sektor wins," so it's all good

Agreed.

Thank you.
I'm not asking for Ermac to be the same as he was in MK9, but he should have some inherent quality about his appearance that stands out and sets him apart, but also makes people recognize him and say right off the bat "Oh, that's Ermac," as should every MK character.

Red ninja = OH! I KNOW WHO THAT IS! THAT'S ERMAC!

That is what the fans pay for; instant visual recognition of their favorite characters.

Other end of the extreme spectrum.
I'm not asking for characters to stay the same, but I could tell right off the bat that this was Ermac in MK9.

Even without the glowing hands, anybody could tell that this was Ermac for MK9, if you showed them this random picture in 2010.

I'd be down for both of those.
It's different and not something I've seen rehashed over and over

I really like this design of Ermac. He looks like he has been out on his own, away from the excess of Kahn's palace.

And for the record, I am a gigantic Ermac fan. Probably My 2nd favorite character in all of MK.

Scarecrow's Creed...lol

Not the 'Mummy look' im use to seeing...which is fine with me-I never cared for it.

looks so sick! seriously hope this is the final design for ermac in mk x. so far my favorite look of the game, by far (granted, we've only seen scorpion, sub zero, and ermac). I definitely believe that this is a step in the right direction, especially if they're going for the whole dark/gritty theme.

I couldn't agree more. This isn't directed towards you but I said (way too many times here) that all I wanted was each 'ninja' to have unique defining features from one another (not just color but design too) as they have been lately. And when I said that I'm being mistaken for changing the character in to something completely unrecognizable. That was never what I meant.

No shit, because it's a dolled up version of his Deception costume.
You can nitpick the differences, but it's almost exactly the same.
