Does anyone remember this?

I remember watching some videos of MK9 and gameplay at Pax/E3 and all of thse places. Sub-Zero had this move where he froze the ground and made an Ice Spike kome out of it. And it popped the opponent in the air.

Does anyone know what happened to this RIDICULOUSLY awesome move and why it got taken away?
Or does anyone have any video of it. I am 100% sure that I have seen it before and so have my friends.
 
It was originally part of the X-Ray. In the final version of the game he would start his X-Ray by Dashing towards the opponent.

You can notice other differences like the X-Ray bar is different.

YES! Why wasn't this put into the game as an enhanced version of the Ground Freeze. I think it was better of NRS that they took this version of the X-Ray away, but it would've been so much better if they did kreat it as an Enhanced version.

I remember Tom Brady saying why somewhere, but I forget. I think EX ground freeze turning into an ice spike would be sweet. It could have the same properties as one of Shang Tsung's ground fireballs. I wish there were more specials that the EX did something different other than just more damage. Some EX moves are nearly pointless, like EX ice clone.
