MK10 or DLC

I vote MK10. As Ricochet has said, if they keep pushing DLC on MK9 we are going to end up with a stale game AND a lack of content for the sequel. Some DLC is nice, but by the time you have bought all the extra characters, stages, fatalities, friendships, brutalities, animalities, challenge tower missions and story DLC that people want, you might as well have bought a new game (and will have, several times over). MK9 is great as it is and the new characters were a welcome addition, but eventually you can have too much DLC. That's not a call to abandon MK9, just a call to enjoy the game you have and stop wishing for it to unrealistically contain everything.

Were you the one who said they wanted important characters up through Armageddon? Cause that doesn't even make sense. Most of them wouldn't even fit into this story.

Look at Kenshi... For some reason they felt they should throw in a popular post MK4 character and in doing so had to alter his story. Why? Why couldn't they just leave him be? Are they going to alter every single known MK character just to throw their asses into what will soon be an overcrowded game?

Heh, look, what is flaw to you may be virtue for someone else. For me it's cool when NRS changes bio/story/concept of characters, in alternative timeline it is even inevitable. E.g. Frost, does she fit the story? How can she be recruited by Sub-Zero when he's dead / cybernized. Or Kira/Kobra - the one who introduced them in the serie is dead / under Quan Chi's control so why wouldn't they appear now, recruited by (e.g.) Kano (or Frost recruited by Sektor - Grandmaster Lin Kuei) etc.

I understand everyone's points from both sides. It just makes me sick talking about MK10 already and the thought of DLC ending in what 2 weeks? I'm just not ready for this game to be done and thrown away so quickly. It's 2011 and games are different from the 90's. DLC is a huge part nowadays and for their sake they should continue to release for the people that dont give a shit the price of it while everyone else sits and waits for MK10.

I've changed my opinion on this topic so many times. I used to be against DLC because I was afraid of MK9 turning into MKA; too much content to handle and not enough focus = poor game. But if NR can make it work, and they are, then I guess I'm fine with it. MK9 is actually the only game I know of that has fans who don't want DLC. Every other game's fans are demanding it, and the devs are feeding it to them because they know it's a money maker. IMO MK10 will need more than just new content and story to sell itself to anyone other than us, so DLC is more financially stable. As long as people are excited about MK9, there's money to be made. I'd say put MK10 out of your heads for now. But who knows...

I didn't vote for either.
I want NRS to do MK: Fire and Ice as their next project.
Shaolin Monks sequel with Scorpion and Sub-Zero, FTW!!! :ftw:

I'd prefer they do DLC, if they get some of the new characters for MK10 introduced/fleshed out they can find problems with them. So when the next game comes out characters that are cheap and often abused like Smoke/Scorpion aren't on disc. And if one of the DLC becomes your favorite characters I'm sure in the new game they'll feel the same but have new specials, combo's etc.

And idk why people are complaining about there being enough DLC made to go past the cost of the original game. I didn't know there was a cap? And if I remember correctly there is enough Black Ops DLC to go over the cost of the game and no one is complaining there, they want more (3map packs at 20 bucks right?). I don't care how much DLC they make or what the total cost is for all of it. I'll get what I want as long as the price is reasonable. I still think 5 dollars a character is a little high though

I'd rather have more MK9 to play this year in the form of DLC rather than a promise of MK10 some time in the future. My life's probably going to be a lot busier by that point. Entertain me now.

WOW i am really surprised that more people want dlc. i want to see how the story progresses and i would love for nrs to perfect this engine.

but when all is said and done its all the fighting and the story for me, thats why i want a new game because;

I WANT mk to be taken seriously in the high level community.
I WANT more characters.
I WANT the balanced game play of mk9 to be fine tuned when they remake all the mk9 characters and throw in new ones for mk10.
I WANT the thrill of going to this site every damn day looking for any information i can get my hands-on on the upcoming mk10.
I WANT to know what happens next, we know Armageddon isn't going to happen so......
I WANT nrs to give a shit about tag-team so it can be played competitively.
I WANT more private match options, online co-op, and different combat codes =P.
I WANT a better practice mode.

but I DO NOT WANT nrs to waist their time adding this stuff to mk9 when there is still balancing issues (i'm looking at you Cyrax)
if they don't plan on adding another 8 hour story mode as dlc to mk9 to advance the plot then im not interested in most of the features above for mk9. i'd much rather have them all in a new game.

The only DLC I want to see are:

1) New Stages from the 1st three MK games, like the Kombat Tomb, Street Level (with Shao Khan's Tower in the background), The Pit 3, The original Bell Tower (gloomy and full moon in the back + stage fatality), etc ......... On that note, I hate the re-envisioned stages ... The old ones had a more apocalyptic feel to them (MK3)

2) New finishers ... Who doesn't?! .... Brutalities, Mercy, Friendship, etc.

3) Three costume packs: Klassic MK1, Klassic MK2 and Klassic MK3 ... Would love to see Scorpion in his UMK3 outfit and Sonya in her MK3 one.

4) Finally, now with Rain as DLC, I want Motaro ... To complete the original trilogy's roster ... Evan as just a boss ... I want him in the game

I voted for the next game. Im totally fine with NRS releasing some new things beyond this summer but overall i am very interested in furthering the story. I suppose they could release a story expansion that could continue what was going on when the game ended but honestly i would prefer the story to be told in a different style. Though i was blown away by how good the story was i would like to not see some of the characters be total scrubs. It becomes really lame fighting one character over and over and wiping the floor with them every time. (Like reptile, sheeva, baraka, AND THE BOSS CHARACTERS like Goro and kintaro! It was awesome the first time you fought them but by the third you were laughing when pitted against them. Totally not how its supposed to be)

I would like to see more for this game though.

-Perhaps some more characters
-1 new fatality for every character...(ESPECIALLY SHANG TSUNG) Preferably more creative and envolving less decapitating
-And fix online! The game i bet has lost a huge market of players for DLC due to online crapping out. I watched the numbers dwindle and it seriously made me sad...but i didn't blame those people who left

I like this point a because so many people get pissed that characters and content aren't there. You have to play with you you're dealt with and what you receive and look at them as positives. I also agree that there could be too much DLC for a game (even tho I'd buy it all) but i like the idea of DLC coming out throughout the first year of a game's release nowadays. It's only been out for 3 months. I'm not ready for it to end. I just think they should definately do a little more after the ??? character comes out. At least something.

Wow man....Saying I'm a "Passive bottom fan" because I want to support NRS to make more material and I would love having new characters too play with? Having characters through Armageddon would make sense........it's DLC and has nothing to do with the story line..........Also they could be in the game, and not be used in the next one due to story purposes? And your talking about how they are taking a different direction with the story, which they are, but then you complain about how Kenshi has a different story?

Okay, you're obviously not reading my posts fully and you're just not understanding what I'm saying.

-I didn't call you a passive bottom of a fan because you support NRS. Think about it what YOU said and how I responded.
-DLC characters ARE connected to the story line. That's why they are GIVEN storylines.
-I've accepted Kenshi. I'm not pissed off about him. MY point was : Are they going to do this with every ****ing characters just to squeeze them into what will soon be an overcrowded game? If so, that's ridiculous. Just make a new ****ing game.

Kenshi's story was hardly altered in this game. His story remains the same as it had started out in Mk:DA and just fleshed out more.

The game hasn't even been out six months man. Not sure why any body wants a new game already. If you don't like the DLC don't buy it, Simple as that.

If they really want to make Mortal Kombat a competitive game, they must keep it for quite some time by patching, balancing and feeding the game with DLC. Enough of releasing a new game every year or every 2 years. At the end of the day, Mortal Kombat has 9 main titles but how many are REALLY good? This is why I feel Mortal Kombat will never be like Street Fighter, but whatever... I prefer quality to quantity, but that's just me.

Maybe in a year, they should release a Ultimate Mortal Kombat will DLC and patching done until then with more characters, more arenas, more challenges and Motaro (:p). That already would make me happy.

Okay, again... You're not reading what I write. I didn't say I want the next game NOW!

You know what, never-mind. I'm talking to a wall.
