Different Stamina Rankings?

I've been playing alot of Street Fighter 4 recently, I've started to notice how heavily the different stamina ratings of the different characters affect their gameplay style. I was wondering if the next Mortal Kombat game should adopt this into the game? Instead of the percentage of damage a combo/attack does, it would display the total amount of damage it does, regardless of the character. Now, I know what you're thinking, but I don't think that using one or two elements from Street Fighter would be a bad idea. In fact, it might help to balance certain characters (cough, cough, Kung Lao). So anyway, I've put together how I think each of the characters should rank in terms of stamina.

High: 1100
-Sheeva
-Jax
-Kratos

Above Average: 1050
-Sektor
-Quan Chi
-Reptile
-Stryker
-Baraka

Average: 1000
-Nightwolf
-Scorpion
-Ermac
-Jade
-Noob Saibot
-Rain

Below Average: 950
-Raiden
-Liu Kang
-Kenshi
-Mileena
-Sindel
-Kitana
-Shang Tsung

Poor: 900
-Cyber Sub-Zero
-Sub-Zero
-Smoke
-Sonya
-Kabal
-Cyrax
-Johnny Cage

Horrible: 850
-Kung Lao
-Freddy Krueger
-Kano

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I guess I don't understand fully what this does. Can you give a better example of how this affects gameplay? I've only played a little bit of SF4, so I'm not that familiar of that stamina system.

the stamina ranking plays a HUGE part in gameplay. in sf terms, 1000 is average stamina. stamina determines how much of a beating the character can take before being koed. 1000 means u can take the average damage. if ur above 1000, u can take less damage and can eat more combos. if u have less, u take more damage and cant eat alot of combos. if u have average stamina, then most likely you're and average character. like ryu for example. he has 1000 and he's ur basic character. decent combos, decent wakeups, devent defense and offense and a projectile. usually a character that has amazng rushdown capabilities have low stamina. like my main adon. he is all about rushdown since he lacks a projectile. he has a way around projectiles tho. he can rushdown more effectively than most in the game and land big combos, but for the sack of balance, he has 950 stamina, which means its below average and cant eat a lot of combos. and usually if u have above stamina, ur a powerhouse but have a hard time unleashing that power. take zangief for example. powerhouse and is all about throws. but he can be zoned out EASILY. he can take a beating since his stamina is 1100(?) and can easily dish out a beating once he gets in, but he lacks combos and has a hard time getting in. then there's seth. lowest stamina in the game...but that's a whole different story that will take too long to talk about. hope this helps

oook, I get it now, thanks. That could be pretty neat. Something they should look into for the next game.

I hope this will NEVER happen, i can already hear 90% of the Community scream, "nerf here", "buff here". When you want a 100% balanced game, give everbody the same special moves and combos......

People have been complaining since day one, I don't see how this would change anything.

Nah MK don't need to do anything with the stamina. It fine as it is. Tekken don't do it and MK don't need to either.

As much as I hate how this game is sometimes, I completely agree. Buff some of the weaker characters and leave it how it is. It's a really great game apart from the terrible online. Offline, this game is fun and just slightly unbalanced. Kung Lao is fine now. Cyrax imo is the only one who needs a fix. No one should be able to do that much damage.

I think one of the biggest success's about MK9 was going back to basics, such as 2D gameplay, old characters, then adding in X-rays and enhanced moves was genious, but a stamina system would kill the simplicity IMO

Agreed. MKs accessibility is definitely part of it's draw. The fact that you can just pick it up and do something cool is awesome.

Yeah, their no point in having different stamina for characters. SF does it but it makes sense since the the gameplay how those games are. MK with stamina would just be stupid. Could you imagine if a character had 850 stamina and someone juggles you your health would be gone within a few little juggles lol. Stamina in MK is fine as it is it don't need to be touched. This not SF.

And yeah the game is great still, even tho the online is not as great as we thought it would be. Offline the game is great to play. I think the game still balanced but I agree Cyrax needs fixing.

Stamina is passive in nature, it won't make the game any more complicated. It doesn't change the properties of the character's moves. All it determines is the character's ability to take damage, kind of like how Shao Kahn, Goro, and Kintaro take less damage than normal characters.

By simplicity i ment in terms of balancing, its adding another equation to the formula, and as Gurimmjaw said with long combo's/juggles it would create more balancing issues than it fixes. I think they just need to keep an eye on it. and fix cyrax XD its a nice idea, but with the system as it is i think its just impractical

Nah, Like everyone else said 50% combos sort of ruin this idea lol. And dont get me started about cyrax, hat tier anyone?

Yes, it is another variable, but I don't think it's that big of an issue. Virtua Fighter doesn't use a stamina ratings, but the characters vary by weight. Heavier characters have more protection against juggles since they don't stay in the air for long. Yet, it is still of the more balanced fighting games.
