Dash better than Run proof?

ahreet!

yep its back! the very first thing that people began discussing when we first got sight of MK9
Run Vs Dash!

We know that the dash is in the game now and we cant do anything about it but NRS obviously done this for a reason, and fans of the Run will be able to talk forever of the strategic implications the Run offered and how it offered much deeper gameplay,

If they changed the Run to a Dash they must of done this for a reason, they must think that the Dash is better than the Run so my question is where is the Proof?
i can think of a million ways the run is used strategically but with the Dash i struggle to see any benifit from this change, maybe dashing backwards to avaoid a throw/grab but ,,meh!,

I find stratergy very important in MK or any fighting game for that matter and so far ive yet to see proof of how the Dash is better than the Run from a strategic view

and fans of the run post below of how you used the run strategically
and people who know anything about the dash do the same so we can compare

Is there any videos showing the Dash being used strategically?

I just wanna see the proof that this was a good move!

i think dash should stay but they should also include running like in mkvsdc if you press the right button 2 times and hold.
becuz i played against some annoying people on mkvsdc who will be just moving backwards and spamming projectile moves. I want to get to them faster and beat the shit out of them

dude...again?

You already know that I agree with you...but bringing this topic back up again isn't going to change anything...

just let it go...

I dont understand why they couldnt have both the run and the dash incorporated like most other fighting games...

:canabis::stoned:That's something that you have to over come. I have to say that the character was supposed to be played that way and if that person wanted to play close kombat than they would have selected someone like Jax's or Sonya or at least when think of the true projectiles I think of Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Cyrax, and Kitana all characters that freeze the other player for a free combo. I personally hate when people play as Baraka constantly use the Chop Chop Blades.

Trading run for dash is absolutely stupid imo. Sure dash could work in MK9, but its MK and should have run. Run does things most people wont even understand.

it could change future MKs if enough people want the Run back, anyway im on about showing us some proof that the dash is as good strategically

I, unfortunately, never played UMK3 at a competitive level, but it's my understand that the Run button is mainly used for pressure. In which case, I'm sure there are plenty of other ways in this day and age (of MK) to create pressure. Not only that, but the dash may function in the same way the run did (cancelling jabs, and maybe a few other moves). I remember someone from NRS saying that the dash can be cancelled at anytime, so I don't see why you couldn't FP~DSH~FP~DSH (or whatever notations you wanna use).

Hopefully it also means that characters with f,f inputs can extend the range of those moves in the same way Tekken characters can (by holding the second f and then delaying the attack input).

The Run mechanic worked really well in UMK3, but things change, and maybe they tested it out and it didn't feel right in MK9. MK9 is a brand new game, and it's gonna be full of brand new mechanics to discover and utilize in a strategic and effective way.

I believe they have mentioned that you can cancel out of a dash so run jab and other techniques etc might still be possible depending on each character's normal and dash properties. And if not there will hopefully be more emphasis on frame traps and block strings to keep up pressure (see SSFIV). Either way I think dashing is a better fit for MK9. Being able to back dash will be nice.

MKII has no run button and it is the bees knees.

Seriously though, if most fighters can have both dash and a run, why the hell cant this game have it? its simple tap forward, tap forward gives you a dash and the tap forward, hold forward gives you a run. And to cancel out of a run, press any button.

Do you mind telling me all these other fighters that have both run and dash?

If they release the MK HD Kollection they should add run into MKII. It's Mortal Kombat so it should have run! sigh

I don't like this discussion. Chances are 99.999999999999999999% of us haven't even played MK9, and if one of us actually has my guess is enough time wasn't spent with the game to make a judgement on what would have worked better with the current combo / juggle mechanics in the game. All we do know is the run button is gone and that isn't going to change. I'd save the *****ing until we have actually spent time with the game.

Only 2D game I can think of that does is BB. SF manages fine without any running, and in something like Tekken its uses are quite finite.

I think people just need to sit tight and wait for the game to come out before they judge. Discovering all the uses of dashing will be something magical for us all to share post-release.

Because tap, tap, tap is a lot slower than the single motion of fwd+run.

It would be badass to have an optional Run feature in MKII. MK1 would be cool with it, too. I'm betting they're not gonna mess with the gameplay at all, tho.

Good games the other night, too! I go by Pyrit on MAME.

Tekken has dashes and running.

I think the dashes work perfectly for the mechanics of this game. Like it was said before, times change, and maybe dashes fit better in MK9's mechanics then running. The only thing I might complain about is when characters are at the extreme sides of the screen, and, for example, Sub-Zero freezes or Cyrax nets the opponent. They'd have to do 2-3 dashes or 2 jumps to get close enough for another attack, and the opponent may be released before they get to do an attack. So, the only thing I'd add is a run function like in MKvsDCU, tapping forward twice from a far distance makes you run instead of dash. Or maybe you run from far distance with tap foward, hold foward.
