CLASH system gone?

NetherRealm announced a wager system in its DC Universe fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, at E3 this year. Dubbed the clash system, this special function combines individualized cutscene cinematics with a process of betting your character's super meter, with the fighter betting the most winning the wager and getting the special move. It sounded confusing at E3, and it still is now at Gamescom, which is why NetherRealm is considering removing it from Injustice entirely.

"I can see the cinematic moves staying and the wager system going," NetherRealm's Adam Urbano tells Joystiq at Gamescom. NetherRealm is tweaking the clash system and may end up disposing of it entirely, while keeping the character-specific attacks and cinematics, Urbano says.

YES!!! Dispose of the Clash system, I want a breaker similar to the one in MK9, but keep the stage interactions, they are pretty cool, I do hope they shorten the lenghts of the cut-scenes or speed them up tho.

I'm happy they did this, Back Back stated in the Discussion thread a few weeks back that this Mechanic is more beneficial to people who play a solid Keep away/Zoning game. If you're sitting back building Meter constantly with Projectiles or playing hit a run and not trying to rush down and you have a full bar or More than the player you're spacing out it's almost like giving you God mode. If the Rush down player hits them they will more than likely always have more meter making them will ALL the time.

Now that we talk about things to be removed I'd wish the environmental interactions were shortened too. Also it looks pretty goofy that a character is punched so hard he will fly for a mile through multiple floors and walls. Normally these characters are knocked back a dozen yards at most taking perhaps 1 wall with them.

I'd prefer if it was a tad more like in Dead or Alive with the different arenas being closer to each other.

Title of this game is gods among us though. These aren't normal humans knocking each other through buildings.
Boon already confirmed the inclusion of at least one stage that did not have environmental interaction.

No, but gods' power is countered by them fighting gods. If Grundy punches Superman it doesn't take long for Superman to recover from the attack, atleast when the fight has just started.

Sure that logic doesn't apply when Grundy punches Batman, but the game can't have 2 rules. And I still have never seen Batman or anyone (sans stupid anime) getting knocked back hundreds of yards through lots of walls and other surfaces, and also stay in fighting condition. If Batman is alive during the flight he would use grapple or something to get him away from the trouble.

In a way it makes me miss the MKvsDC duels because back then atleast the characters struggled while in air.

With all due respect......

If people keep looking at what NRS or other games have done in the past, they will never be satisfied with whats to come..

Its a NEW game - one that is stand alone, some things would never work in MK but it may be the thing that makes this game, just give it a chance to get released before you pass judgment on something that's not even finalized.

Here's what you seem to not be getting, prpletrltle.

You're trying to apply conventional wisdom to a game that in a lot of ways, is anything but conventional. While I get what you're trying to say, what you're suggesting is only going to compromise the vision that NRS has for the game.

The stage transitions are a big part of the game, and the Hollywood-esque action sequences seen in the stage transitions that would make any PG-13 superhero blockbuster proud is also a major theme of the game; it is to Injustice what brutality and over-the-top violence are to MK. They help give Injustice the identity that it arguably needs to really flourish and stand out amongst all these current fighting games. NRS themselves in a way has already confirmed what I just said; when asked about how violent this game would be, they said that they would replace the gore with over-the-top action. So why simplify or bog down the stage transitions when they are what help make Injustice, Injustice?

Wasn't Clashing in their vision? Likewise they could decide to tone down the transitions or even remove them, or make them even more over the top. Ed sure seemed open to changes in one of the videos I saw.

But I get it. Must see what the final game is like and then give the judgement that matters. I doubt Injustice is going to rival DOA or Tekken for me anyway, but I probably get it if only for the characters.
