Anyone Else Disappointed With the Story Mode?

Couldn't have said it better than Marcelino Rodrigues. The civil war would have been a perfect opportunity to let the player control characters who aren't the traditionally 'good' ones. A Mileena chapter would have been the obvious choice and I was disappointed that she was just another bad guy. Wasted potential.

Personally I would have loved a Reptile chapter too, but I think Erron Black might've made more sense. He's just a mysterious cowboy as is, so his character would have benefited from some fleshing out.

A fallen elder god, trapped in the vast depths of the Netherrealm that Lord Raiden could barley defeat..
Looses to a 16 year-old human girl. Can somebody give me a valid explanation for that?

That wasn't Shinnok's day on Kombat.

She's 20's something (5?).

Yeah, I forgot she's 20 something but that's all that really disappointed me was how easily a fallen elder god
went down to a 25-year old human girl. Oh, and a side from the way they gave Mileena this awesome build up..gave her a really cool rebellious roll in the story, They killed Jade so she had some room to hog that badass female spot and then before she even did anything
they just cheaply had her surrender and just take it. killed her, as if killing of Jade wasn't enough. And so many characters die and come
back to point to where it's gonna start to get old and cheap.

The problem is not with killing itself, but with killing popular unique characters, Sub-Zero, Kung Lao and Kitana were unique and popular Mileena as well. With so many spec ops, i thought some of them (Jax, Sonya, Kenshi) gonna die in the story to make a room for their new generation, but no, they preffered to kill Mileena and Baraka, while i think not many will really miss Baraka, Mileena will be for sure.

Was anyone expecting any better from a fighting game?

I play MK to punch other people and throw random stuff at them, if I want to enjoy a good story I play Uncharted, The Last of Us or an RPG.

Nobody plays COD or Battlefield for the campaign, they buy the game to play online, every game has one thing that it is made for.

Games like Dead Space, Uncharted, inFamous, God of War, Assassin's Creed and such are focused on a campaign.
Games like COD, BF, Halo and more are focused on online modes.

I think people who play MK for the story are being ridiculous, MK is not a game focused on the story, it's a fighting game, it's focused on AI and PvP fighting.

The fact that NRS is "trying" to focus on the story is damaging the series, why? because they waste time on a bs story that is worth nothing when they could invest that time in better netcodes, dedicated servers, better AI (this is important), more chars/stages, more offline modes, etc.

I'd change the whole story mode for an extended bio and a vignette for each character + 5 more chars.

Couldn't put it better, story my ass.

MK story for me is exactly like the stories in porn movies, irrelevant.

I got the game yesterday for my birthday and I like the story mode a bit more then MK9. There was less filler fights but I do think most of the characters should have been developed more. Chapter 1 also feels like it was rush out since we didn't see how Johnny and Sony met Kenshi and how the Invasion started. We know that they plan it out at the end of MK9 but I wish we saw more full detail of it. Kotal Kahn's origin in the game should have been explain more if you never read the comic. I read the comics but not everyone does.

Tanya felt like that she was just threw into the story mode without any proper development. I wish she was working for Quan Chi and Shinnok as well.

I'm glad Tanya wasn't working for Shinnok because that'd make it much less likely she would return after his defeat. Making her the face of the Edenian resistance in this timeline is way more interesting to me, especially since she was their hated enemy in the original timeline.

I'd of like the story mode to focus more on what happened over the 25 yrs. The psychological effect it had on Sonya/Jax when they first saw their friends as bad guys. How they adjusted and the horrible acts Liu Kang and co did to people.

It's messy. Really messy. Lack of Character development, full of plotholes and a very piss poor end boss. Is that all you got, Shao Kahn put up a better fight. I'm left with more questions than answers? Why did Johnny Cage and Sonya ever split up? Why did they need Kano to find Shinnok, when he popped up soon after?
Spoiler:

How is it Mileena can start a rebellion yet she can barely hold her own when it comes to the crunch? So Quan Chi is supposed to be this badass sorceror and has this army of the undead yet they don't come to his aid when he's captured? What the hell is with him getting killed too? Even though it was unexpected the execution of it was just lacking. Kotal Kahn oh god what an idiot, "Shinnok's here.... i quit!" "Kung Jin challenged me to Mortal Kombat and he beat me, i must abide by the rules now and work with these kids." "D'vorah has turned on us, she is a traitor. Kill her.....She must of freed the humans too, even though there's no evidence of that i make this my assumption."

Also it's so short it can be done in under 5 hours. That's kind of what really threw me off the most. If i had 4 more chapters i probably would of forgiven most of it.

Kind of sad. I'm guessing there's going to be sub plots dlc or a part 2 dlc.

Now despite those bad things. There were some good moments. It just felt really rushed.

Also i loved the death of Liu Kang from MK9 cause it was something different. I was kind of hoping Liu Kang would be the big Bad Guy in MKX. Maybe next time.

I want you to understand, just because i'm not a fan of story mode doesn't mean i hate this game. I absolutely love it. Fighting is fluid. Fatalties are cool and so are the brutalites, i love the variations and Cassie has a cool moveset, and i like Kung Jin too and reckon he's got a wicked fatality. I also like Takeda's moveset.

I think we would have saw it like we did with D'Vorah. D'Vorah was turning her back against Kotal Kahn while Tanya could have done the same with Mileena.
This might be it. Bur she could have been sleeper agent which was not activated. Quan Chi is an ass like that.

Again, just a fun theory. No real proof behind it, but it can explain the character alligence change from MK 4 , if that bothers you.

There are really a couple of things bugging me about the story.
1st was kotal kahn lack of dominance - leading up to the game, the comics had me expecting more out of the character
2nd was the BAD guys roles as Cannon fodder basically for the kids advancement in the series.
I also still think the should have officially killed off (1 or all) Johnny cage, Jax or Sonya.

on the positive side i really enjoyed D'Vorah

Ed Boon said that we would see the rise and fall of Kotal Kahn. Yet he is still Emperor of Outworld by the end of the game. I think he could have a bigger role again in MK11 where he finds himself teaming up with Earthrealm against Raiden.
