This week the Gamestop 2010 Manager's Meeting is in happening in San Antonio, Texas. The first day of the event was today and was mostly a day full of demos, including a Mortal Kombat (2011) Fatality Montage by MK Producer Hector Sanchez. Tomorrow the show will open for hands-on play of many games at the event, including the new Mortal Kombat. As we mentioned earlier in the month, Warner Bros. has created some custom Mortal Kombat cabinet kiosks for the event. One of our many kontributors at the event passed along some photos of the massive stage area along with the new cabinets. Along with the stage is an area where you can put your head thru a hole for a photo as either Mileena performing a fatality or Johnny Cage's torso being held up by Sub-Zero. Pretty funny.

We are hoping that these cabinets may eventually roll out to Gamestop Stores nationwide, or be just be used at other upcoming gaming events like this weekend's PAX Prime in Seattle. Either way they look very neat, and may become collectors items if they ever fall into the public's hands.

Also this stage will be host to a giant Mortal Kombat tournament tomorrow from 6-9pm CST. There seems to be various raffles and prizes being given away as well like t-shirts, headbands, etc. Hopefully some lucky winners get to take the cabinets home as well! We will have a few friends at the show tomorrow and hope to be posting their detailed hands-on impressions of the game for everyone tomorrow.

Re: Gamestop Manager's Meeting unveils New MK Cabinets

Wow that's pretty awesome actually, the picture thing seems a bit dumb though. Hoping for a tournament mode in the game!

I don't understand why they put gamepads. Are they implying the game is built from the ground up on pads? Because they were using gamepads in e3 too.

Everybody is familiar with pads, so giving the cabs an MK-specific layout would be odd for a lot of people, and it eliminates problems with navigating the console's dashboard, too. If the controllers are broken, they're not as expensive to replace, either. It makes more sense to use pads. (Dunno what you mean by "from the ground up" part. It's gonna be pretty much the same 5-button MK has always used.)

I honestly think they're kinda corny looking. The width is disproportionate to the depth/height and the pads makes it look chintzy. The design makes sense, but I don't really like it. Can't go wrong with Samsung TVs, tho.

I hope there's an online supported tournament mode, and i mean more than 4 people.. you get to watch each match you're not in, and stuff like that, button to queue your mic for a turn to speak or something to keep it down for the fighters, actually it would probably be better to just separate the people fighting from the people watching. Also there's no option to leave once you're eliminated. You're just kicked and told you should get better before more people laugh. lol

I must point out, everyone complained the MK cabinet mockups had SFIV sticks, now that the real thing has pads you wish it had SFIV sticks.

@ Patrick McCarron

Wow it would be so awesome if Netherrealm Studios make a new real arcade cabinet after the release of the game for PS3 and Xbox360 next year^^.

That looks really cool.^^
Your face here. XD :laugh::laugh::laugh:

It is pretty odd to see a cabinet without sticks. I thought that was kind of the point in creating arcade-esque cabinets.

Still looks pretty cool, though.

Yeah, it's a game going back to it's roots, so keeping it nostalgic would be cool, but it's been done for so long, let's just move on? Plus I'm sure they're aware that 3/4ths of Gamestop managers aren't true gamers, or too young to remember how to play effectively on sticks. So they probably built them more in a "let's make sure everyone knows how to play it."
