Kombat pack 3 official thread

So, because Jacqui relies heavily on technology, she doesn't fit... despite that we have had Sonya and Jax in the series for a while?

Kay. That makes sense.

That is the idea. We don't need another military character who relies on technology

If that's the case, it's not if she "fits" that's the problem, but rather the superflouosness of her character, as there's already others fulfilling that role.

I can get behind that, however, MKX was about the next generation of those roles. Like, the former military characters, shaolin monks and ninjas passing the mantle to a new generation.

It would basically mean that in MK11, if NRS goes through with it, we wouldn't have Sonya, Jax, Johnny, Scorpion, Kung Lao and Liu Kang, because now Cassie, Jacqui, Kung Jin and Takeda have taken over their roles.

... but knowing NRS, I suspect they won't go through with that.

in fairness it feels like that the actual parent characters are gonna be out the next game

scorpion is staying though, regardless

Possibility - 0%

But I'd like to see Jacqui die in MK11 and have Takeda become the "new" Scorpion. Give Hanzo some relevance again as he and Sub-Zero try to snap him out of it. Shit, that could be the premise for Shaolin Monks 2 now that Chi is dead

"Jax doesn't fit MK" biggest joke I've ever heard. Special forces member who retires to save his family after he is brought back from the dead. Then again these are the some of the same people who think Taven is a good character.

NRS is going to be pushing out the original characters. Sonya, Johnny, Liu, Jax.... So Jacqui will ultimately be taking over for one of them. MKX has shown us that the original MVPs are getting old and wont be around much longer. MKX felt like their going away party.

Liu and Kitana definitely aren't going anywhere. When Kang got revealed, Ed Boon responded to someone on twitter who said "Nobody wanted Liu Kang" with "Tell that to the thousands of people who begged for him every day". Story also sets up for them to come back. Jax might go, but I doubt both of Cassie's parents will. Maybe just one. There's no guarantee that MK11 is going to do another time skip.

Yeah, not sure why I said Liu. They definitely brought him back into relevance with MKX. I'm not so sure with Sonya and Johnny, though. I can see them maybe bringing Sonya back to conclude her rivalry with Kano. But eh. If Jax ever comes back, I will be shocked. The guy only came out of retirement to finish his beef with Quan Chi and Shinnok.

But I highly doubt we see them all together again. Unless we end up with another "Trilogy" or "Armageddon" type of game in the future.

Jacqui's reception has been negative-lukewarm from what I've seen. I could see NRS killing her off in favor of keeping her much more popular father playable.

If they do chose to set aside a bunch of these veteran heroes for future games.. My thoughts are how they would bring them back later if they chose to. Like, is Johnny/Sonya/Jax etc going to be senior citizens? I'm curious about they would go about doing that. They're showing that they're heading in that direction with aging these characters and bringing in their descendants.

They may do something like killing them off in the series as revenants and then being revived alive but this time maintaining their youth. Infact, maybe Jax is already maintaining his look. NRS can pull off anything for the magical world of MK.

Yeah, and that magical world of Mortal Kombat is nothing more but a cluster fvck that can't get things right or refuses to let things go.

No matter how many times it was stated that "it's time to pass the torch," what matters is if that saying is true with the next Mortal Kombat game. Or are we just going to get the same roster again with maybe a few newer characters or have some be replaced by other returnees?

I understand NRS wanting to really move the series along (start a new age/neXt gen, whatever) by dropping all these classic characters. Sure, they can sit on a bench for a game and rotate them as they have done in the past. That works fine. But to try to send them off for good is not something I see happening. People are always going to bark for them back, and however liked the new kids may be, it won't change that. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Street Fighter, Killer Instinct, and Soul Caliber have their cluster of mainstays? See, what's wrong with that? As I said, rotate, sprinkle them in here and there, add new faces, unlikely/unpopular faces, and some 3D era characters we haven't seen in ages. That be good for me.

Nasty_Freak I guess they could come up with any lore magic they can to keep them from needing walkers. The Edenians have natural long life spans. Raiden is a god. Scorpion and Sub-Zero have legendary powers that keep them fresh (aside from the fact that riots would break out if they were excluded). And I guess other humans can remain intact through sorcery, ressurections, the elder gods, technology whatever. Fiction is pretty rad.

It's dangerous to piss off certain fan groups though. Tekken is without a doubt my second favorite fighting series. I've owned every port of every game. But if they were to ever make a Tekken without King, it wouldn't even be a bargain bin buy for me. And many people have similar feelings towards MK. Sub and Scorp are no doubt the poster boys, but you can't ignore the size of Liu Kang, Kitana, Raiden or Johhny's fanbase.

Sure it "hurts the story" to keep seeing these same faces come back over and over. But at the end of the day this is a fighting game. Gameplay rules over all else. Think of how much time you spent seeing Revenant Liu Kang in story mode compared to how much you've fought noncanon Liu Kang in VS matches.

Or maybe cryosleep may prevent them from aging. Just look at Anna and Nina Williams from Tekken. Lol

No doubt everything I've said here is just "What makes sense" imo. At the end of the day, Netherrealm is going to do whatever the fu** Netherrealm wants to do. MK9 and MKX taught us that lesson. Both rosters left me saying "What the fu**?"

Eventually, if NRS refuses to move forward with the series and evolve beyond the familiar MVPs of the series, they'll probably lose me. But we'll see. I refuse to dish out 60+ dollars on a game that feels exactly like the last three or four games in the series. So far they still have my attention - but MKX is only part two of the new series.

An example of what I meant was Deception's roster. We can do without having all those heroes if we cut that group in half. Save the other for the rest. Its not a bad idea in my opinion. Ever one gets a fair amount of time in the tournament.
