SPOILER ALERT:Mortal Kombat X DIGITAL COMIC DISCUSSION

Comics are definitely canon. Other than the inconsistencies, I really enjoyed this chapter. I loved Ferra's dialogue and it's nice to see Reptile get some recognition.

You said earlier that the bit with Reptile saving Kotal's life seems to have been cut from the game, and I agree. It seems like too big a thing for Kittelsen to just make up wholesale and throw into an existing scene that he hasn't even seen with his own eyes.

Makes you wonder what other scenes were written but never animated. Could Kenshi meeting and helping Scorpion have been another? It would certainly explain why Kittelsen still hasn't had his way with that aspect of Scorpion's backstory, 20 issues into the comic.

More scenes with Fujin, to provide some context for his vanishing act? Oh boy, this has certainly opened up one heck of a rabbit hole.

One of the writers explicitly said on Twitter that yeah, Fujin was supposed to turn up in another scene with Jax that wrapped up the Netherrealm stuff -- but it wasn't necessary and it was cut.

The comics are obviously canon, but when there are some inconsistencies, we should just replace the comics inconsistencies with the game facts and leave the rest of the comics intact. That would be the most reasonable way and would make the whole story more complete.

Yeah, that's what I meant -- as p.W noted, in Star Wars they have terms for that. G-Canon and C-Canon. In the context of Mortal Kombat, the games are G-Canon, the comics are C-Canon.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF)#*@)$*))*$92573-23 WHAT?

Oh the rage. Oh I am feeling the rage.

Fujin appears in chapter 1 and gets a huge action sequence that implies he is an important character, wanders off on a seemingly important mission. Is never heard from again. "Not necessary" to provide closure. Jax shows up and is brought back just for one chapter to beat the shit out of a couple of Revenants, then we have no idea where he is as a character after that. Does he want to rejoin S-F? Go back into retirement? Is he OK with Jacqui staying in S-F? Why isn't he with Sonya running in to the rescue at the end? "Not necessary" to provide closure.

My word.

My word.

Not necessary is my phrasing, not theirs, to clarify -- I just assumed that was their reasoning. But yeah they said there was a scene with Fujin and Jax in the Netherrealm that was cut before any of the cinematic rendering started. This was a while back. In the same conversation they mentioned Bo' Rai Cho was initially scripted as Kai from MK4.

Wtf was up with Tremor in the comic though? Was there a reason he arbitrarily punched the ground and almost destroyed Zunikarith

Oh ffs I expected so much more from Reptile. At this point I'd expect someone like him to hand Shao Kahn some toilet paper and wipe his ass, not to fight in a tournament, nor do some spying. Results speak for themselves. Cherry on top: stabbed by a puny midget. C'mon now...
I couldn't give two turds about D'vorah.
Ferra/Torr was fun.
And Kotal...dude's simply a legend. Even his slaves, I mean servants, say he's a legend. To prove my point the guy eats severed legs, picks his slave when the ultimate slave master is alive, kicks ass and commands respect. AAaaaamazing.

That makes absolute sense.

Liu Kang mentions that there is an Earthrealm force in the Netherrealm, the one Shinnok says that will be neutralized.

BUT the people that were fighting there was Kenshi's team, with Jax's assistance.

Kenshi was on Earthrealm, and the revenants too, so who was this "Earthrealm Force" still there and fighting WHO?

I think we have our answer.

Fujin's cut was abusive. He was so awesome...

Yeah, the writer (Brian Chard) said the 'Earthrealm force' was Jax, Fujin, and their soldiers. Scene was cut for time, probably because it wasn't critical to the main plot of whichever chapter it appeared in.

I don't get how that isnt necessary yet the rest of Jaxs chapter is? Wtf nrs

As cool as that would be, there usually just isn't room. Comics aren't the medium to go to if you want to see masterful build-ups of subplots. That's literature and TV. Comics have a pre-set size. You can't just make up brand new pages. Another page devoted to D'Vorah and Shao kahn and another page devoted to D'Vorah and Mileena would have meant a page less time for Ferra/Torr or Reptile.

That is sad to read. See, Comics were very good in building sub plots. As good as wtitten literature for many years. Just go back and read silver and bronze age stuff. Spider-man and -men especially had tons of plot content per issue.

But these days, Comics have very simplified plots. I think you could fit this entire issue in about a third of the pages if you would write it in the silver age. This would allow for more developed characters. Alas, these days the quality and expectations have changed for the worst.
