Everything about story mode. Pics, videos, discussion, etc.

Keep in mind, I'm a Mileena fan, Kal, but I have to ask this: How does Mileena come back after what happened? Bugs devoured her face and Quan Chi has literally been beheaded. I would make the argument that he could bring her back through means of sorcery but Quan Chi himself is dead and Shinnok has been reduced to nothing but a choking head. I don't see her coming back for awhile but I could be (and hope I am) wrong.

Shout out to T Dot, though. I'm from Thunder Bay originally.

We have no idea where Shang Tsung is in all of this, he made her. Yeah "died" in MK9, I don't know about that. Just like how many of these guys died as well. Mileena also has had clones/copies of her as we all know. I don't know, I just don't see them killing off Mileena for good. Maybe I'm being hopeful? Personally I'd be very very upset if she doesn't come back, especially after the shitty way they killed her.

Hello Thunder Bay.

We know Quna Chi will be back despite him dying in the storymode because Raiden becomes dark and the Elder Gods program Quan Chi to kill Raiden at any cost. All of the arcade endings are connected to each other in some way, shape, or form...

Need I remind you how Mileena came to life in the first place? If there is still a DNA sample from Kitana intact ANYWHERE in the physical world, Mileena can be created again (and it doesn't have to be a blood sample. It can be as simple as a strand of hair). And it doesn't necessarily have to be Shang Tsung, or any sorcerer for that matter, who does it. It can be a corrupt scientist.

I can only imagine the heat NRS would get if they don't add Mileena or Kitana in the next game... their posters will have to go from "Made in Chicago" to "Made in an undisclosed location."

I've always spoken that Raiden has only postponed Armageddon.

He is following the same path again.

On the unchanged timeline, he made a deal with Shao Kahn to prevent Taven reaching the pyramid.

What happened? Kahn won, betrayed Raiden, Armageddon and all BS.

And nooooooow?? Raiden is pissed off (with reason), he holds the Amulet, the most controversial object of whole reality, he is much more cruel than ever (though "evil" is not a correct word, even NRS says he is not pure evil), because even for Shinnok letting his head living without the body is cruel, and he is saying that will crush everybody that offends Earthrrealm.

Imagine now. Kotal Kahn invaded (even with a small army, but that was invasion) Earthrrealm and wanted the Amulet (told you this thing caused problems) like nothing, he almost killed Cage's team like **** Reiko accords (lol)...

easily another Outworld vs Earthrrealm can happen, and all that kombat comes back.

Easily anything can happen and a war between the realms happen again. It's just a matter of time.

Remember that on Raiden's MK:A ending, he destroyed all the other realms.

With Mileena, there could be more than one clone of her that we don't know about. Maybe Shang created more and we just don't know it yet, and the intentions for multiples of them could also be left unknown as well.

I'd be content if we had like a mutated Mileena where we see that she's not quite... right... despite that she's never been so.

Maybe like more Tarkatan features added or some weird malfunctioning happened during the process.

But of course, I'm getting too carried away for a future idea.

I LOVED MKX story mode, and I feel like I need to stress that out before I address the parts that I felt were missing:

- Jade was confirmed dead on the streams, but nowhere to be seen, even as a revenant.

- Sub-Zero said that he killed Sektor and his followers, but does this also mean Cyrax?
Cyrax originally wanted no part in the cyber process.

- Sheeva, as much as I don't like her, didn't even get a cameo or death scene, and she lived through MK9.

- Shang Tsung being either dead or alive is still unknown.

- Noob Saibot's fate is still unknown.
If he died, then why isn't he a revenant under Quan Chi's control like Kitana, Liu Kang, Sindel, Jax, etc, etc, ect?
If he lived, then where the hell is he?

- Skarlet is nowhere to be found and her whereabouts are unknown.

- Goro didn't even get a story mode cameo, even after he returns to Kuatan in the comics and is reunited with King Gorbak.
Seriously?
How did he magically grow his arms back before making an appearance in MKX?

- Where is Kintaro during all of this?

- Where is Havik during all of this?

- Where is Reiko during all of this?

It feels like NRS and the comic book writers didn't even speak to each other.

Agreed.

I don't want to be a Negative Nelly, but unless NRS changes the way story mode is structured we'll just get disappointed with the next one too. If they want to stick with the current formula it's better to keep it longer and not have the focus of the story jumping around so much. As well as characters on both sides having chapters.

Edit: Commander Yeah I'm getting the sense that NRS and the Comics gang barely shared notes. First it was Kotal's skin not actually being blue, but now it seems as though the two are on completely different tangents with very little being shared between them story wise. Also good one on Jade, she totally slipped my mind >_<

I don't see why the game should have commented on everything that happens in the comic. (or how it could when it was written long before the comic) The comic will explain what happens to Kintaro, Reiko, Havik, etc. It's telling its own story that leads into the game, and it's not up to the game to spoil that story.

You meant the other way around; that it changed from BY Han to BE Han. But it was, in fact, BE Han in MK9. BY Han comes from MK Legacy.

I'm pretty sure that Sareena's dialogue confirms that he is alive now.

"I can aid you Kitana, as Bi-Han aided me!" Why would Noob Saibot help Sareena escape from Quan Chi? And why would Sareena call him Bi-Han if he did?

That happened WAY back in Mythologies

And all you people claiming Mythologies to have been retconned by the reboot can now eat your crow.

Mythologies is still canon.

Pretty much agree with what you've said.

Although Kittlesen did mention that Kenshi will be featured in the comics further on as well - maybe they'll answer some questions pertaining to him and others later on.. I seriously can't wait for such loose ends/inconsistencies to be tied.

Well just beat the story and I must say that I'm very impressed with how well they improved the cinematics from previous games. The story was a great improvement itself with actual character development and I actually cared about Johnny and Sonya. With that said, I can't stand Jacqui and Cassie. Their play styles are fine, but the minute they open their mouths, I want to shoot myself. They tried way too hard to give them attitude and copy off their parents lines and it just takes me out of the story when everyone else is actually being badass.

Finally finished up MKX story mode. I loved it a lot, but by god that cliff hanger made me repeat what over and over again.

I thought story mode was really good, not great, but really good. Scorpion's chapter was definitely my favorite. Him and sub making peace and slicing off Quan Chis head was epic. I wasn't annoyed by Cassie or Jacqui at all. The only character that annoyed me was Kung Jin. I was disappointed that the playable revenants were not explained at all...we'll Kung Lao, kitana, and Liu kang.

As I said in another post. Storymodes don't always come true. They never mention Shang Tsung in the story-mode yet Shang Tsung is in like 5 characters' endings. Out of arcade endings, only Liu Kang becomes ruler of the Netherrealm. Shouldn't Kitana's ending also allude to being a ruler of the Netherrealm?

On the contrary.
The story mode ending is what dictates what will happen in the next game, as has been the case since Deadly Alliance, for the last 5 canon MK games.
Arcade endings haven't predicted the story of the next games since MK3.
Arcade endings are the ones that are non-canon, ever since Deadly Alliance.
Quan Chi's MK9 ending had him betraying Shinnok and bringing Shao Kahn back from the dead as a phantom warrior, none of which happened in MKX.
AT BEST, some arcade endings can be considered to be semi-canon if certain parts of certain endings come true, but for the MOST part, individual character arcade endings should be taken with a grain of salt.
So, no, Kitana's ending could have her not being the ruler of the NetherRealm, but that doesn't mean that it will happen for the next game, as you're implying.
Reptile, Ermac, Nightwolf, Stryker, Cyrax, Noob Saibot, Kabal, Jade, Sindel, Cyber Sub-Zero, Shang Tsung and Baraka's MK9 endings never happened.
The arcade endings in the MK games are just "what if" scenarios, much like the Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Kitana normal skins in MKX.
If NRS decides to make some of those "what if" scenarios canon, that's another story, but until they do or don't materialize in the next game, all that the arcade / ladder / tower ending really are are a bunch of "what ifs."

MK9 story mode had Shinnok and Quan Chi at the end of it, posing as the main threat against EarthRealm, and in MKX Shinnok was the BIG bad who poisoned the Jensei.
All of the dead warriors at the end of MK9's story mode ended up serving Quan Chi, and they continued to serve Quan Chi in MKX.
I'm 100% sure that Liu Kang and Kitana will be the NEW rulers of the NetherRealm, according to that post-credits MKX ending scene, just the same way that the ending scene after MK9 with Quan Chi and Shinnok lead into MKX with those 2 being the main villains.

do you think NRS will find a way to bring back Quan Chi? They already gave themselves an "out" with Mileena. when fighting herself she claims shang tsung created many clone bodies of Mileena.

I hope that they don't bring Quan Chi back.
If some of the dead come back in MK11, I hope that NRS comes up with something better than just retconning / a cop-out of Quan Chi's MKX death.
It would greatly weaken Sub-Zero and Scorpion's redemption story in MKX.
Quan Chi should stay dead for a while (or forever, IMO), so that Scorpion's soul can finally have peace and both he and Sub-Zero can move on without having this rehashed again.
Sub-Zero and Scorpion finally being able to put things behind them is some of the best character "build up" that I have seen for those 2 in a LONG time.

Quan Chi has been known to use doppelgangers in the past to deceive his enemies and protect himself. This may or may not have been the case here.
