Leak? Johnny and Sonya in-game models from story cutscene

Unless we get another time skip after MKX, which I doubt, Cassie, Jacqui, and Takeda will be in their mid-20s. Does it make sense to have a 25 year old run Special Forces? No, it does not. So while Johnny, Sonya, and Jax might not be playable in MK11, there is a zero percent chance that all of them die in this game. At least one of them is guaranteed to stick around to run Special Forces while Cassie and Takeda run around killing bad guys.

I didn't ONLY suggest them getting killed off, though.

(whether that means killed off and brought back or just sit out MK11 and or MK12.

Also, how old do you think that Sonya, Jax and Johnny were in MK9?
Mid-20s.
Sure, while they didn't run Special Forces in MK9, why can their kids serve in the same role in MK11 that their parents did in MK9, and grow into those roles?
There really is no need for the parents as playable characters (dead or alive) in the next 1 or 2 games, after MKX.
That's my point.

Who knows, Kitana is 10,000 and is better than lots of young people out there

Granted.

My point, though, was why can't their kids take their place for a game or 2?
Let Sonya, Jax and Johnny have 1 last hurrah, for a couple of games, and let the torch be passed.

MKX, at first, is looking like the intermediary game. I think it's possible they sit out for "MK11" but for sure they change their minds with a lot of things when they start making the game for real. It dependa on what will happen on this one IMO.

This is exactly what I was trying to get at, which is why I eventually just accepted more MK9 characters being in, and why I would accept the descendants, kids and new characters taking up the mantle.
MKX, to me, also seems like the intermediary game between MK9 and MK11.
If there are all of these relatives, descendants and new characters in MK11, without explanation or little explanation, then people are less likely to accept the new characters.
Gradual change makes these characters more likely to get known without just dropping a bomb on everyone in 1 game.

Sorry, I missed the part where you said "sit out." I can imagine Sonya dying and Jax being an NPC in ("sitting out") MK11. I think that that is a realistic prediction. Kenshi is too fan favorite to die, Jax is too recently returned from the dead to die, and Johnny is probably too important in NRS's eyes.

I don't think you understand my point about the Cassie/Sonya comparison, however. Special Forces isn't the same meaningless thing that it used to be. It's now the biggest Earthrealm protagonist faction by a wide margin - and I can't see that changing in the future. The White Lotus works when all you have to worry about is the occasional tournament every 100 years. But as of MK3/MKX, Earthrealm is coming under threat of wars. The White Lotus can't fight wars, you need a military to do that. I can't see this angle simply disappearing from the story any time soon.

Is 25 year old Cassie capable of leading that entire organization? Well, maybe she can be the most important playable SF member, sure. But not the highest ranking one in the story.

Jax looks a little bitolder, don't you think? Early 30s (slight difference )

I also would guess, from MK9, that Jax is in his thirties.

I do understand your comparison, but I don't see how it's relevant in this particular discussion.
Regardless of whether the Special Forces weren't a bigger organization in MK9 (which I agree with you), why can't Cassie and Jacqui fill their parents role of operatives for Special Forces (not the same rank), and letting their parents sit out a game or 2?

I never said or implied that Cassie should lead SF, just take her mom's role as 1 of the "Special Forces" characters for a couple of games.
That's all that I mean.

As long as you agree that the inclusion of some other, more high ranking SF characters is inevitable if only as NPCs, then we're on the same page!

It's like when you play an Arkham game, there has to be an Oracle or an Alfred for Batman to get status updates from. He needs an HQ. With the expanded contemporary SF, Sonya and Jax are that SF HQ in storymode. We're not gonna completely lose both.

If I may, I think that certain members of the trilogy crew should sit out the next MK games. Have them play a role in story mode, give them some mentor type of role to play, but only make them playable through DLC. That way only the people that want them can get them and the ones who don't, can avoid it and less of this "wasted slot" nonsense. I also think NRS would see a really warm reception for those characters as DLC.

In fact as DLC, the age thing would also be less of a problem, because then the characters are being made for the sake of gameplay not because of how they are in the story.

Am I the only one who feels like most of the 3-D era characters were underwhelming? Havik maybe. o_0

lol, no... Most people think that. But if NRS wanted to, they could change that. They could take these "underwhelming" characters and make them alot more interesting. They've done that before, the prime example being Stryker, the once most hated MK character ever and then after his MK9 appearance, alot of people had a change of heart.

I'd like to see that happen to the other characters.

I want this to happen for MK11. The story will not suffer anymore, NRS will make alot of money, less popular characters can be developed better and maybe evolve into new fan favorites. If Kung Lao, Sonya, Jax & Kenshi were DLC 4 MKX, i will not have any problem with the roster whatsoever.

Yeah it gives NRS the freedom to move forward and give people their nostalgia fix too. I'm honestly surprised they didn't go this route with MKX. Making 3D era characters DLC (if that's what they have in mind) wouldn't yield as much profit as any of the 2D era characters as DLC.

For the most part, yes, but if NRS can make me like Kenshi in MK9, they can make me like anyone.
Fujin, Reiko, Havik, Quan Chi and maaaaaaaaaaybe masked / knight armor Hotaru were the only other post-MK3 characters that I found interesting.
I was hoping that Fujin would be playable, but if this roster is the final roster, then my best hope for Fujin is DLC:

Scorpion
Sub-zero
Raiden
Kano
Sonya
Johnny
Liu Kang
Jax
Kung Lao
Mileena
Kitana
Reptile
Ermac
Goro
Quan Chi
Kenshi
Shinnok
Kotal Kahn
Ferra / Torr
D'Vorah
Cassie
Jacqui
Takeda
Kung Jin
Erron Black
