Literally what? LOL. I mean no disrespect, but really? Revenge-driven madmen are a dime a dozen in fiction.
Scorpion is actually one of the least-compelling characters for me, story-wise. But he's got a really cool gameplay aesthetic that I'm never able to take my eyes off of. His Ninjitsu variation looks incredibly fun to play.
Have to disagree. Scorpion's story is probally the most developed on MK, and when I say "Scorpion's story" I'm obviously including Sub-
Zero and Noob Saibot.
Of course, if we look to "vengeful spirit", that's a superficial analisys. Just like "hollywood martial artist", "old man leading a tournament", "character that discovers her father is the killer of her real father", "clone abomination"...
What Tobias wrote for Scorpion and Sub-Zero, IMO, is a complete novel. Few stories inside the main story have all the development this one has.
I don't see a vengeful ninja. I see a guy, thief, assassin, who was punished beyond his crimes. I see someone who was unjustly murdered for nothing, for pure clan rivalry and evil. No justice was inside Hanzo's death.
And more than that. He lost everything, is life, his freedom, his people and specially his family. All brutally murdered by someone who already predicted that, just to have one more slave. Finally, to complete this drama, the murder also puts guilty on the assassin.
Once again the justice theme. Sub-Zero was an a-hole for killing Hanzo. But the guilty of his family's death wasn't his burden. and his death achieved nothing, just a cruel wraith who had little feeling for his sibling. Revenge brought NOTHING on MK.
IMO, and I think the game developers also follow this, is that Scorpion is the most deep and easy character to explore. It's no surprise he plays a major role on the comics. And it's not because "it's Boon favorite". Even if Boon loved any other character, with a story like this, only a fool with the right to write about MK would forget this character.
The big problem is that they lost their way on cutting Sub-Zero and Scorpion rivalry on MK4 (or even MKII). But I really think both are the deepest characters on the entire series (IMO), and Scorpion is a little bit beyond Sub-Zero, because his existence deals with justice, revenge, loss, I mean, human feelings. That's what I see on him.
