Seperate games set in different timelines.

ITT: Dumb opinions

But seriously, why is 3 years so long? If thats what it takes to make the next MK installment great then fine use the 3 years. Hell if they needed 5 years thats fine too. Do ya'll really want some yearly rushed out nonsense like call of duty and assassins creed??

Also to everyone who is b****ing that they shouldnt be taking out the mk9 characters. Get over it, MK9 was a revival game. MK had been long dead and thanks to MK9 its not a joke anymore, they can go back to expanding the universe and characters, would you really rather have them go over the same shit as always with the same characters? Growth of our beloved franchise is great, quit trying to hold it back.

Also Ferra/Torr and Dvorah seem "jarjar-ish".... wtf does that even mean? That they are joke characters? That they are uninteresting? On what possible basis did you come up with that? Did you make that conclusion from the copious amounts of bios and story leaks we've gotten? You know literally nothing about the characters, so please, shut up

Why is it that if a game comes out early, it's automatically call of duty level rushed? If you get a seperate set of people working on a spin off, then nothing would be rushed.

Making a spin off game =\= rushed

When did I say I wanted a game every year? And when did I say I wanted to pay "60$ a year for tiny updates".. I said I wanted a spin off game.. Again, nice job at putting words in peoples mouths.

All I'm saying is releasing a spin off game during the three year wait would be nice. It certainly wouldn't cause an Armageddon again.

Why are you so obsessed with having a three year wait? You could get seperate people working on a spin off. Then it wouldn't take anything away from the normal games. What's the problem?

Im not putting words in anyones mouth. Its simply the truth. You want games every 1.5 years? Then you are going to be paying $60 for games with little to no upgrades just like Call of Duty, Assassins Creed and all these other yearly, bi yearly games

Also, you want MK games coming out every 1.5 years or so? That would cause over saturation with the series and would cause people to get sick of it. Mortal Kombat is better this way. The longer people have to wait, the more time the MK crew has to make the best game possible and the more people will anticipate it. I am hyped as about MKX cause I have been waiting so long.

If they are doing a tie-in adventure game, they should make it more of a downloadable game rather than retail. I'd hate to see them waste resources on a 2-year dev adventure game that won't have a lot of replayability. I loved Shaolin Monks, but I think we can all agree that the 1v1 fighting mode was very bland and boring.

1 vs 1 wasn't the main reason why I re-played Shaolin Monks, so to each his own.
I preferred to play the game again and get any of the secrets / unlockables that I missed, as well as playing as Sub-Zero and Scorpion.

I forgot all about that
In that case, I'd definitely want them to make it a full game. Hopefully they'd be able to make it a bit less linear this time though. It would've been cool if you could choose the order in which you fought reptile, baraka, sub-zero, ect.

You ARE putting words in my mouth. I never said I wanted a game every 1.5 years. I said 2 years at the least. If you bothered to read my post, you would see that I don't want any of the stuff you're complaining about.

How would releasing an adventure style spin off be "little to no upgrade"? It would be completely different then the normal games. Stop comparing this to Call of Duty. This is completely different. And like I said, they could have seperate people work on the spin off. So it wouldn't even effect the main series.

You do realize they planned on doing this very thing after mk9 right? An adventure game called "fire and ice" or something. I can't remember exactly why they canceled it. But I know it wasn't because they thought people would get sick of MK.

You're acting like I want a traditional 2D fighter Mortal Kombat every year. All I want is an adventure game\spin off in the middle somewhere. Why is that so bad?

They could easily have a team on the side to make a cool adventure game while the main team are working on fighting games. However, they wouldn't do it unless they know there would be money earned on it.

I personally think getting a spin off game in 2017 for MK's 25th anniversary would be nice. It will give fans something to do while we wait for MK11 in 2019.

A adventure spin off would be nice but we dont need them in between games all the time. Also Fire and Ice was the sequel to Shaolin Monks which was cancelled because of midways money problems. Id rather 100% of their focus went to the main series, not splitting teams or hiring more crew members just for spinoff games

I do think the butthurt over the dead fighters possibly not coming back in MKX is stupid. I remember no one had a issue with Deadly Alliance killing off the main heroes. People act like that they are never coming back and that MKX is going to be our last MK game. They rebooted the series to move the series into a new direction. There's a lot of story events that they can do next after MKX since the timeline has changed. After Armageddon, they had no where to go with the story since everyone was killed off.

THIS X 1,000!!!

I also don't get how Ferra / Torr and D'Vorah are Jar Jar-ish.
Sure, D'Vorah doesn't seem that appealing to me, thus far, but for all I know I may play as her in MKX and actually like using her.
You can't really tell until try out all the characters, as far as gameplay goes.

Also Fire and Ice was the sequel to Shaolin Monks which was cancelled because of midways money problems.

That doesn't bother me too much, because it's possible that Scorpion and Sub-Zero may just bury the hatchet in MKX, after all. ;)

I think people should give new characters a chance before judging them. Yeah most of the characters after the arcade era (MK1-MK4) sucked but Midway back then never had the time to fully fresh them out and give them proper development. So far I like the new MK characters. Kotal Kahn and Cassie both look great to play as. I think Cassie is going to be a pretty likeable character in the story mode.

I dont think you understand how difficult game design is...

Also NRS isnt made of money to the point where they can just hire several teams to make several MK games all at once.

Your expectations are ludicrous and absurd and once again I REALLY dont think you understand how ****ing difficult game design is...

Fire and Ice was a concept made after Shaolin Monks and was cancelled due to the bankruptcy of Midway...
Waaaaayyy before Mk9

Yes, another person realizes how difficult it is to just make games. Thank you!

I have a small grasp as what it's like to work in the animation department as I do have a BA in it, as well as have former Midway employees as professors explaining what it's like on a typical day in the animation department. It's not as simple as many tend to think/are implying that the think it's very simple. You got guys working at least twelve hours per day, sometimes they even don't leave the office (a Pixar employee once told me that many people have beds in their offices because of how much work they have that they just sleep at their office just to make it easier to finish a project)

I also tend to think some people have completely ignored that small little video in Deadly Alliance that shows what it's like on a typical work day when they were in the process of making Deadly Alliance. Take that day, multiply it by two years (or however it takes making games now) and you still don't get the amount of time they put in and all the hard work that goes into it.

Now, I'm not trying to act like a smart ass/know-it-all because I have a BA in animation, but at least I can give you a small grasp as to what it's like working on an animated project because what I did to earn it was basically a slightly easier version of what it's like to work on a real animation team. It's very tedious, very eye-straining, very time consuming... just a lot of hard stuff that goes into, I'm virtually explaining how it's like in the most vague way to at least try to make those who don't understand a single thing about animation to know what it's somewhat like.

So no, you can't just "make a team" to make another game, even if Warner Brothers is going to throw out money. You basically need to have another Netherrealm Studios team to do so. As I said before, yeah there's a thing called "multitasking" for those who think they can just work on another project at the same time... but re-read above again and understand why that's not plausible. They can't just work on two games at once unless they literally get another team the size of what they have now and have them work on a different game.

I like how Japanese studios are supporting their fighting games with additional contents and updates, look at how many updates BlazBlue and Street Fighter 4 have gotten, some of you call this milking a game, I call this support. Only casual players make fun of Capcom, people at shoryuken and eventhub would gladly pay again to get another update to Street Fighter 4, I'm fine with updates as long as they can be downloaded online and don't force you to buy a new disc.

A lot people stopped playing MK9 when Injustice came out, it's sad that american fighting games lack longevity. 3 years between each game is actually not that bad.

No, but WB is, and they could easily assemble a team to develop an MK themed adventure game while the rest of NRS are working on fighting games.

Yes but WB needs a reason to fund a game, they do their research, they arent just gonna hire a new team on a whim cuz they just want to.

It is proven that MK sells well after mk9, sales for MK side projects in the past, not so well. From a business standpoint WB wont be so quick to fund a side project MK game that they arent even sure will be successful.

How does that model help the story? We STILL don't know who won the SFII tournament.
