Select screen official music

the old games are dated....no one would buy or play them now...

Really? Not one single person would potentially be interested? Quite an intriguing assertion here.

I thoroughly enjoy the classic "dated" MK titles more often than I do the modern titles. In fact, I'd actually argue that games like MK:DA and MKD/MKA feel more dated than their 2D counterparts. UMK3 tournaments are actually still quite common these days; I can't say I see people lining up to play Deception or Deadly Alliance against one another as much anymore (though it still may happen, just not as frequently).

All of that aside; I'd personally love to see a nice amalgamation of classic and modern MK musical themes in MKX.

I think it sounds pretty good for the most part, but is missing that catchy hook. Definitely like the more ominous tone and heavy hitting drums are always welcome to me. I feel like drums just fit a dark fighting game like mk really well. In the movie, the scene where Shang Tsungs men raid the dinner and flip the tables had my favorite score.

Glad to see we are safe from any rap/hip hop music in mk :P

What does that even mean?...Did you think Wiz Khalifa was going to do the select music too?

Oh, but you're probably one of those people who complained that the trailer music wasn't "Mortal Kombat" enough for you..
Even though it fit like a glove...

Have you seen the Scorpion/Cage fight scene in the 95 movie?

It had metal playing. In fact, it was "Zero Signal" by Fear Factory...which is an established band.

Personally, that fight scene would have been better off without the music by Fear Factory, it just makes it a little corny lol

Oh and I just googled the select screen music from Deception (never heard it before), and wow

Howso?! That fight scene was in HELL! Explain to me what music fits for a fight in the Home of the Devil!

The music for the first MK movie was perfect IMHO. Perfect tone for the perfect atmosphere; a winning combination.

This kind of music below with a dark undertone is something I feel would fit, without it sounding like a random song playing in the background(Go to 2:50 - 3:25)

Obviously it would be a more updated and cleaner sound without those dated 90s soundeffects

While I agree that the new music is really good, I can't agree with the assessment that the older music is outdated. To do so would be to admit that the older games themselves are dated, because the music is relative to their time of release/the technology available. I don't feel the classic MK games nor their music are dated; just different and awesome in their own ways.

Now, trying to affix classic MK music to the new MKX is another discussion all together...

Well the older games ARE dated. I mean yes they are still fun but we all can agree gameplay-wise and mechanics-wise it is outdated

While I agree that they are dated, people still have fun playing them and they still have things to offer

Fit like I glove? You mean they timed punches to the beat. Besides that no, it didnt really fit at all. In the world of mortal kombat where you have ****ing ninjas fighting with magic powers and martial arts in a ****ing snowy forest with a dark gritty vibe, in what world would you think "oh yeah rap would fit this perfectly"

The majority of people agree that the music in the trailer was shit, I was originally just making a silly comment regarding it because a lot of people responded to the trailer saying that they wished all the in-game music would be rap. I didnt legitimately believe that the soundtrack would consist of rap and hip hop haha

it wasn't very good for just over a minute, but then it gets really good. the song should have started around 1:15 into it.

I don't dig the whole movie score approach MK is going with these days, I like fighting games best with actual themes and songs. That's one aspect I can easily say the competition outclasses MK in.

Case in point

sure some of the songs are good, but they still wouldn't sound right in an mk game. SF music has this "happy/nice" sound to it. that's not what we want mk to sound like. it would be like putting Mario characters in a Dead Space game.
