Will the Wii U get respect from the fighting community?

I don't think anyways calling it dead...

but I mean.. I've had a game cube and a wii...

The most games I bought for my cube were like 8 games

SSBM
resident Evil 4
resident evil 1 remake
Resident Evil Zero
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime Echoes

nvm I can't think of anymore games.

I believe this was the extent of my collection.

As for the Wii?

Super smash brothers Brawl (which I threw in the microwave)
Metroid Prime Corruption
Metroid: other M
Zelda Twilight Princess (didn't even finish it)

this is just my experience.

So I probably won't even look at it. tbh.

Lol this reminds me of the other day where my friend said the Gamecube was better than the Ps2.

What an idiot.

No one took the Wii seriously and Nintendo dominated the console market. I look at this way Sony is in deep financial trouble (2.9 billion dollar loss and look at the Vita's sales for example), Microsoft only care about being a cable box with social apps and Kinect more than being a console but Nintendo has nothing else but the gaming community to drive their sales. I know it's a tough battle for Nintendo to win but they are making steps in the right direction (funding Bayonetta 2). All I'm saying is it's crazy to declare the WiiU dead before it even has a chance.

Just because it dominated the market doesn't mean people took it seriously.

It's a fun console for kids.

There is nothing wrong with that...I have a number of Nintendo consoles myself, including Wii. Nintendo consoles are great for fun, 'kiddie' games, like Mario Kart, Mario Party, Wii Sports (which are very cartoony), etc.

When people think Nintendo, they think of those types of games, not games like MK or Street Fighter.

There will never be a big fighter population in the Nintendo world. The console isn't taken nearly as seriously as Playstation or X-Box. It's just thought of as a kids answer to consoles.

I didn't say anywhere in my post that it was a dead console <.<

Melee is one of the deepest fighters of all time and still has a respectable base.
Its a stretch to say that Nintendo will never have a large fighter base when it already does.

I know what you mean with the kiddie though. Turning on the Wii feels like a Fischer Price toy rather than a console.
Nintendo needs to cut the gimmick bullshit. Give us an actual controller, respectable online services and XMB/Dashboard/hub whatever the hell it's called on the Wii customizable themes. At least I'll have the option of big titties on my screen before I play Mario Cup Cake simulator.

For those of you trashing the Wii U, listen very closely!

If you pass up on the Wii U in favor of Microsoft and/or Sony's next consoles, I guarantee that you WILL be ripped off...especially if Microsoft, Sony, and the third party developers get their way with regards to DRM and second-hand gaming!

That is true.

If the rumors about Sony & Micro trying to kill used gaming are true, then WiiU may be the top console.
At least in the middle/lower class areas.

I'm confused when you say "No one takes anything made by Nintendo seriously." wouldn't that be the same as saying "No one respects them." I think that's basically saying their dead to the fighting community or am I wrong?

I think a lot of people forget that Nintendo was not always about Mario and Donkey Kong back in the Snes days they had just as many fighting games on their system as any other competitor (the snes dpad is still regarded as one of the best fighting d pads out there IMO) if it wasn't for the snes I would have never got into fighting games like I have today.

Nintendo already confirmed months ago that the Wii U would not block used games at all. That alone is how they already EARNED the respect of the entire gaming community (but like I said, earning respect and receiving it are two different things altogether). If it turns out to be the only console that allows used games, then mark my words, Nintendo will establish a de facto monopoly over the industry, especially when retailers such as GameStop have the power to kill Sony and Microsoft's gaming-related profits by simply refusing to stock their next consoles (and GameStop does make their money on the second-hand market). I'm telling you right now, if you value your rights as a consumer under the First Sale Doctrine, then go buy a Wii U before you potentially get ripped off by Sony and Microsoft.

BBBLP speaks the truth.

Super smash brothers Melee,

Pulls numbers in the 400's on a national level w/o piggy back riding on other games.

MK9 can barely hope to get 150 on a national level. Evo had a few hundred entrants. But lets be real here. like 2/3rds of the guys that entered came for other games. MK9 piggy banked a good number of those players by being at this event.

MK9 alone hardly trumps in huge numbers.

So MK9 is a bad example of a fighter base vs nintendo.

It's mostly just capcom guys that make big turnouts for fighters.

You're wrong ;P

I wouldn't say it's 'dead' to the community, just not really on par with Playstation and X-Box. When the general public thinks of fighting games, not many people think of Nintendo. Nintendo has a reputation to be 'for kids' with 'kiddie games'. That doesn't mean they can't change things around and become a serious contender in the world of video games.

Not taking something seriously doesn't have to mean you don't respect it. I respect the hell out of Nintendo and what they did for the gaming world.

Indeed. There is a difference between respecting the greatness that Nintendo once was and being skeptical of their current direction. It's kind of like being a Cowboys fan

I think this kind of thinking needs to stop everybody believes the Wii is the only thing Nintendo can do. Nintendo was a core oriented console once before and can be again. The WiiU has taken steps toward this and I believe they have all kinds of surprises in store for the core gamer that includes the fighting community as well

I see absolutely no incentive to purchase a WiiU. All of the fighting gamers own a PS3 and/or 360. Not to mention that the quality of graphics for fighting games on WiiU is likely inferior to PS3 and 360. Nintendo can stick with the likes of Super Smash Bros. I'll stay with the 360.

Even though Sony and MS are about to treat law-abiding gamers like pirates?

If you value gimmicks such as "graphics" over how you are being treated as a consumer, then you are seriously lost...

I'm pretty sure that's a straight up troll post I mean having zero interest in the Wii U is one thing but making fanboy remarks ( PS3 /360is better graphics lol ) is another.

I remember reading a article talking about PS4 and Xbox720 only accepting new games but its a rumor. We don't really have any idea what ether company is going do with their new hardware. I personally don't ever see this happening and blocking people from playing used games would just backfire.

Gameplay should ALWAYS supercede technical gimmicks (such as "clock speed" or "graphics" or "whether or not it's in HD")...so too should how you are being treated as a consumer.

Kurtis Stryker is a textbook example of the type of gamer that makes us all look bad; he only cares about the technical gimmicks! That's right; I called them GIMMICKS, because that's what they really are! By his own logic, games like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong must suck by default...can ANYONE tell me why those games have stood the test of time for over 3 decades? You may or may not realize it, but Kurtis Stryker's own purchase choice may jeopardize consumer's rights in the gaming industry both now AND in the future! When you buy someone's product, you are also paying for SUPPORT for that company's business model!

Damn, Tarkatan. I agree with just about everything you've said in this thread. If MS and Sony both block used game access, I'm definitely going with the WiiU

Then I'll definitely continue to support Microsoft, so a chuckle-headed, e-activist douche bag like yourself can suffer.

You don't know anything about me, guy. Choke on it, and turn purple.

A more powerful machine means developers can theoretically push limits of their games. It's not limited to improvement in graphics, but also game physics, advanced AI, larger scaled worlds, or whatever is relevant to that particular game. However, such potential is wasted more often than not, which is why there is no substitute for a good designer.
