hey so i've seen a lot of posts come up from google searches about this, but they're all old and usually related to psn.

i've been doing some player matches and when i'm in a game my guys responding probably half a second slower than normal. i can't play like this.

i've just been joining and quitting games that lag and i've yet to find a single match that didn't lag for me. it's a little irritating having random kids pm me afterwords, but fighting with this kind of lag basically guarantees ill never land more than a 5 hit kombo. am i missing some important patch or what the heck am i supposed to do? i live on the west coast.

If it's happening with more than just a few people, odds are that your upload speed isn't fast enough to get a better experience than what you're getting now. Also, MK9 has terribad netcode, even with a great upload speed, you're going to notice some delay compared to offline, there is no such thing as a completely lag free online MK9 experience.

Refresh your internet before playing online, that can sometimes help. Otherwise, your only option is to upgrade your internet, I hear people with FiOS have pretty smooth online play, but its pricey and not widely available at all.

I recommend just looking for offline casuals in your area, you'll avoid a lot of frustration that way.

There is no such thing as lag free ANYTHING(online) experience.

It's all on how well the company can decieve you into thinking it's lag free through netcode.

Immortal Reaver: cut it with the console war crap dude. Both systems are capapble of running a game clean on good connection.

I pay for super high speed internet so I've never really experienced any traumatizing lag experiences on my end, and I play PS3.

1. Play on 360

2. Get a better connection

3. Both of the above

what a stupid answer"play on 360" xbox has more lag than anyone because most consoles(owners of the white360) use that old wifi adapter. unlike the new slim consoles which are better and use wireless N. theres alot of different things that can go on to cause lag. upload can be bad, dl too slow, using the ps3 wifi(wireless G) etc. both consoles have pros n cons.
the issue is you NEED 7-10mg minimum to have a great experience. and you shouldnt use WIFI for fighting games. the slightest hiccup, and it will hiccup on wifi, kills the match. everyone knows that wired is stable and way faster, ask your cable provider. they say"you get 30 mg wired" and UP TO 30 mg wifi. that means wifi operates at 30% less and literally cuts your speed. stay wired if your a fighter fan.
-dont have multiple computers, downloads on while your gaming. sucks bandwidth.
-all cable providers are cheap for internet, unlike fios. cable is worldwide, not fios(limited)
-test your upload, you can have blazing download, but if your upload is shot, thats the info your sending back and it will cause the lag.
-call your provider tech support and they will tell you whats up, whats the best for online play, people think you can have dsl 3mg, your router downstairs, your laptop on etc, your sister on facebook, mom using you tube etc....and wonder why you lag? seriously? but you blame the other guy
-thanks and hope this helps. cause trust me, we as gamers HATE lag and most of the time, its on your end but you NEVER think its you. i ALWAYS speed test b4 i go online through network setting on ps3, and speakeasy.net
good luck!!! most people are really uneducated on the lag issue. do some research. its your gaming experience , you want the best and its only fair to give yourself the best experience and not make the rest of us suffer because your internet is terrible.
30mg 4up docsis3.0 wired charter cable....blazing

Of course there is no 100% lag free experience, you're going to have some latency regardless, but in comparison to games like SSF4 online, MK9 is literally broken online. MK9 online and offline are pretty much two different experiences entirely because of the shit netcode.

ehh, I'd even say SF can be a bit too laggy to be compared to offline. But I see your points. there are some things in MK that strong moves but have fast enough recoveries that they are punishable offline but not online.

SF is slow paced enough that this stuff can't really happen. SF jumps are way more floaty than MK9 jumps.. Game speed plays a big role too in latency.

If we played checkers online, feel like nothing. cuz of how slow paced it is.

yes there is lag free games but both parties need to be wired 7mg or higher. maybe your not used to it because your internet isnt up to par, but there is lag free games.

There will NEVER be lag free games. (Online)

That only happens offline where the signal from your controller to the console, to the T.v. is the only lag you will experience.

When signal has to be sent to servers, then to my opponent then to servers and back to me. there is no way you can avoid lag.

As I said earlier, when you experience what you believe is lag free online play. It's not really. It's just an illusion, a good one.

When someone jumps in a fighting game you are literally getting that information way later than you would offline, making certain things less reliable.

Online play can make you better, and it's not so bad you can't learn from it. But when it comes to TRUE testimony of skilll. Online will never be able to show consistent FAIR results.

Yes. I have an old ass 360 with the old wi-fi adapter and I still never lag.

No shit? There is always a little latency in online games but the term lag refers to the game slowing down and being able to notice it. When people say there is no lag, they mean the game is running smooth online. With that logic, there is even lag offline because of the extremely small delay on televisions and wireless controllers.

Yep there is lag with that as well. Why LCD TV's are terrible for offline play.

The term "Lag free" is an absolute. So people shouldn't be throwing it around like it's true. Because it's not.

Then you got people playing on LCD T.V.'s and then playing online. I bet that's where most of the online complaints come from are those people.

I'm not bagging on the "online" you can definitely learn stuff with it, and MK9 online isn't "unplayable" like most people say it is. But it does reward/punish certain things in different ways vs offline.

I never use the term "Lag free" when I talk about lag. I like the context the OP said. "IT lags heavily" or "I don't feel any lag"

people are gonna start subconciously thinking online is as good offline if people keep talking "lag free" when it's really not.

Thought i bring this thread back just so I can ask this.. Do you guys believe nethrelm can fix all these issues for MK10 or will it be gamespy all over again? There isn't a offline scene where I live so online is the only reason I still play this game but here latley it feels like a chore to play. I can wreck people up with Mileena but it not any fun to because the mk community is nothing more than Kung Laos, Raidens and Kanos spamming the same crap over and over again ( at least for me ) ugh! I have no problem beating this garbage but dealing with the lag and all the lame tactics people use to win is tiresome. My point is this what can nrs do to make the online community grow and kill off the lameness that keeps MK from being recieved and embraced by newer generation?

The truth is NRS's MK code is broken - This game was suppose to do away with spamming and dealing 40%+ damage. This shows that you may take the steps to prevent spamming but as long as their are noobs -- spamming will be unavoidable. As far as the 40%+ damage, NRS have taken steps to patch these.

Spamming? Lol... are you being serious? And what's wrong with dealing damage?

In an interview, NRS stated that they noticed MK vs DC players just did the same crap over and over and as they put it "Spamming". This is why they tried to take steps to minnimize that -- as for dealing damage, I don't see anything wrong with it but in this same interview, they said that you wouldn't be able to execute 40%+ combos without x-rays -- this has been proven wrong -- just check you tube. This is also why kombatants like Kung-Lao, Mileena, Sindel and others have been nurfed via patch.

Yeah but NRS aren't exactly the best people to ask about fighting game information. They just listen to the braindead online players. They butcher characters because people don't want to learn how to beat them (eg. Kano.) In most cases 'spamming' is actually zoning, controlling space. Its just that people don't want to learn about the game so they complain.

This is actually the best response I have read on this topic! And you are right zoning is one of the best ways to controlling a certain space, that's why you have to learn to play close as well as from a far. I just prefer not to play a noob that's going to use Raiden's torpedo the whole match -- despite it being blocked and punished with a 13 hit combo. Don't get me wrong, I own mk for all systems including vita and there are great players on each console but sometimes you'll get matched you with the "one move master" and it will piss you off lol.

^^^^^^^^^ This guy is a spammer! lol

Ahh yeah, good point, but its easy to punish... its just boring lol.
