Here is it, much more emotional than usual, here is "Rebuilding Kobra".
Growing up in Deacon city is truly hell. And no one knows this hell quite like Michael Christiansen.
Michael grew up in a loving home, surrounded by a hateful city. It was him, his older sister and his mother. Little Mikey they called him. They never had a lot but his mother made due. She worked as a stripper, but Michael never knew it as a child. He was told she was a business woman, all the strange men that would come by were her clients. This was partially true.
One fateful evening, 7 year old Michael is awoken by a commotion coming from his mother's room. He rushes to find the source of this ruckus. He opens the door of his mother's room to be met with the sight of her on the floor. Clothes torn and body bruised. A tall man stands over her, back to Michael. His older sister sat in the corner crying.
He runs toward the tall man, his tiny fists feebly pounding his legs. The man turns around and gives little Mikey a kick to the face. When he regains consciousness, he finds him mother still on the ground, but his sister is nowhere in sight. Tears form up in the wells of his eyes as Michael tries to wake his mother up. Shaking her arm back and forth, back and forth, but to no avail. Little Mickey dials 911, and lies next to his mother, one last time.
Its said he never smiled again after that day. And he would lash out if anyone would call him "Little Mikey", it brought back too much pain. So he goes on as a loner, bouncing from foster home to foster home for years. He doesn't know where he is going, he doesn't care.
Being overly sensitive about his past, Michael gets into fights on a constant basis. Always being teased for his lonesomeness, he leaves the foster home for good. Taking only his white sweater, black pants, black shoes and the pendant of his mother on his neck. 17 year old Michael becomes homeless. Hardened by his past and by his surroundings and with nothing else to lose he becomes a reckless thief. Stealing anything he can get his hands on just for his survival.
On a cold Winter day he is approached by a kid. Said that certain people have been taking notice of what Michael has been doing. That they were impressed and wanted to meet with him. Michael saw no need for this, just more stress to add to his life. He declines the boy's offer.
Later that night as Michael is sleeping under a bridge, he is approached by a group a teenagers, looking for a thrill. He had a lot on his mind, he was in no mood to fight. He tried to offer them what little money he had but they weren't interested. One of them snatch his pendant, rage fills his heart as he attacks all 5 of them with the ferocity of a lion. But he is quickly overwhelmed. The last thing the brave young man hears before he blacks out is gunshots.
Michael wakes up in a small room. A familiar looking man walks in and hands him his pendant. Grateful yet still cautious he asks where he is. "You are with friends" the man replies. The man, who reveals himself as Kabal, tells Michael that he runs a band of young thieves. They bring him valuables and he gives them a place to lay their heads. He asks Michael if will join their family. Seeing no other option, he agrees. When asked his name, Michael replies "Kobra". Wanting to start over, Michael leaves all ties to his past behind, save the pendant of his loving mother.
Kobra and Kabal spend years in the mean streets of Deacon City together. They form a bond bordering that of a father and son. Then one day Kabal is approached by a man named Kano. He offers the veteran criminal a spot in in the fabled Black Dragons. Kabal agrees only if his "son" were able to join as well. Kano agrees to these terms.
And for years more Kabal and 27 year old Kobra are side by side in the criminal world. Kabal attains the rank of second in command, Kobra becomes a top general. They live the good life. But all "good" things must come to an end eventually.
One of the Black Dragon's biggest sources of income is extortion. And when a certain foster home can't pay it's dues, an example needs to be made. Fire is set to the small home during the dead of the night. Children of all ages die in the blaze. Its during this time that Kabal really begins to question his morals, all the things he's done wrong.
Kobra is the top general of the Black Dragons. A title that can be taken at any time. Kano feels as if another is better for the job and sets up a Mortal Kombat match between Kobra and the suitor. Right before his fight, Kobra is approached by Kabal.
"Look kid, I know how we've been living for the past years, but I think its bout time we left these guys. They're too wild for us Kobra, they don't just steal, they kill! A man's possessions can always be returned, but a life will never come back, never."
To which Kobra replies
"It's too late for all this Kabal, these people are my family now. You can be a coward if you want, but realize that I have no cowards in my family."
Seeing that there is no talking him out if this, Kabal makes one final plea
"Kobra, if you want to go on this this, then fine. but I just want you to know that I'm sorry. I'm sorry for putting you through all of this. Not a day went by in Deacon City when I wouldn't look at your face and think of what your life could have been like if I hadn't done what I had done."
Kobra sighs
"Its not your fault. I was stealing before I met you. I would have still been a f*ck up without you"
Kabal makes one final remark
"Thats not what I'm talking about."
They look at each other for awhile, then Kabal leaves. Kobra is called out to the arena for his fight.
His opponent is Kira, Kano's apprentice for 20 years. Kobra notices that she can't look him in the eye. He sees this as a weakness, his intimidating look is too much for her.
They have a long and grueling battle. But in the end, Kobra is the victor. With a stab to her gut with her own blade. Kobra had never killed anyone before. Emotions overwhelmed him as he dropped to his knees and picked her head up in his arms.
She finally looked him in the eyes. And when she did, tears streamed down her beautiful face. She faintly says one last thing to Kobra.
"It . . .it wasn't supposed to end like this.
Mikey . . . . . Kabal is the one who killed Ma."
Kobra holds her close, presses his face against her's, and loses the last family member he has.
