Kitana Thread - "You'll Learn Respect!"

If you wanted to throw a fan after the (2,1,2) combo then you would shorten it to (2,1,Fan toss).

If you want to learn some combos, check the ones on the first page and sit in practice mode to learn them, once you feel comfortable take it to the ladder and after that take it online!

Thanks for the tips. Right now, I'm having a little trouble executing the air fan toss, but practice might make perfect, right? After a f+2-1 I can usually land an uppercut, but I have a little trouble landing a cancel move into a fan toss.

Online, I feel like I'm an inconsistent punisher. After blocking a character like Scorpion, Cage, or Liu Kang I have trouble lowering my block and counter-attacking.

Maybe it's a lack of experience, but dropping the block in order to attack is the biggest problem I have right now from a non-combo standpoint.

What kind of controllers do you guys like to use? Right now I have a Hori ex2 fight stick (the cheap one on amazon).

Are you referring to the Instant Air Fan? E.G. as soon as Kitana has left the ground, you fire off an Air Fan, the position of the fan means your opponent must block or duck, they cannot advance forward. If so, I can't do it consistently either. It is a great tactic to learn though and opens lot's of options if it hits.

I used to have the same problem with taking too long to release block, but it will come with experience. One thing you should pay attention to is the fast recovering specials (Johnny Cage; Shadown Kick, Reptile; Elbow Dash, Kano; Upball), with specials as fast as them you may find it hard to land the (F+2,1) so you may want to use (D+1) to knock them out of their animation and then combo from there. Remember, if in doubt then (D+1) away :P

I use the normal XBOX controller, though it gives me problems, I haven't felt the need to explore the alternatives. What's the fight stick like? did you find it hard making the switch from a controller?

Gosh I really wanna see your Kitanas I need to see some good examples of good rushing @.@

Haha, yeah I keep missing you on Live. I'm around all day today though, so if your up for a fight then message me on here, I'll turn on my BOX of X to have a little sparring session ;)

ONTOPIC: Kitana's EX fan dash cancel is one of her best options IMO. The amount of people that get caught by it and then have to eat a big combo is insane. I recommend people look into adding it to their game, if they haven't already!

It didn't take me too long to adjust to the fight stick. The mic kinda hums which pisses me off, but using 3-4 fingers instead of a thumb makes pulling moves off accurately and fast much easier. The only thing I don't like better about it is jumping backwards and forwards.

As a beginner I really like to depend on Kitana's 2-1-2 and spamming fans or doing a dash and doing a 2-1-2 and a f+2-1 and use my imagination.

The 2-1-2 is such a good move, because you really can't be hit doing it. The fans essentially put up a guard and do damage at the same time. Plus, someone who doesn't know Kitana well will probably drop their guard early because it covers more distance than you would think.

Anyone have any beginner tips on kitana? I really like her playstyle and want to learn her:p
Make sure the enemy never gets away with Jumping, her instant air fan continued with a ground fan and an EX ground fan cancel can be followed up with 2+ground fan+2cutting fan which is I'll say 30%. The air fan can also catch people off guard even up close giving you the ability to open up a nice combo. In general, keep using the fans wisely and you'll be given good combo oportunities:)

That's a pretty good combo Thirteenth, she does have other combos though that can reach up to 50% using only one bar. As crazy as the combo is, doesn't really seem practical to use three bars when you know a 50% combo using only one bar. Also, I don't know if you plan to use Kitana more, I know you said you don't main her, but her EX fan cancel opens up a combo opportunity if it hits so I think it would be more practical to use them separately then in the same combo.

The combo I was referring to is; 2, 1, EX Fan Cancel, JiP, f+2, 1, NJP, 4, Fan, 4, Fan Lift, Dash, b+2, Air Fan, Dash, Fan, Dash, 4, Cutting Fan.

Good effort anyway though Thirteenth, it's always a problem for me to come up with high damaging combos, I just steal them off everyone else :P

do you know any 50% combos ? I've been kinda bored with Kitana lately

I kno 50 and 50+ % damage combos with her. practical combos too
I think everyone knows a good 50%er if you main Kitana ;)

Anyway, I am a little discouraged from being fully committed to her because the people that DO main her are so insanely good that I couldn't stand up to them lmao

I got a midscreen and a corner combo that reaches about 45-50%

Midscreen; 2, 1, EX Fan Cancel, JiP, F+2, 1, NJP, Dash, 4, Fan, Dash, 4, Fan Lift, Dash, B+2, Air Fan, Dash, Fan, Dash, 4, Cutting Fan

Corner; F+4, 1, 2, Fan, B+3, 3, Fan Lift, JiP, Air Fan, Fan, Dash, 3, 3, 3, Cutting Fan

I've been using them for a while and have been able to pull them off online 95% of the time, they are practical. You've probably seen both of these before as well, I know I saw the corner combo was used at EVO.

You would think Kitana would play very sloppy, because most of what seems to be effective is just throwing a fan after canceling, but it seems like there is more too it than that. Something I think I should implement more into my game is the fan lift, but it just doesn't feel natural.

I like the Deadly Alliance and MK9 primary costumes. I don't particularly like her look in MK3 or the Deadly Alliance alternate.

I use the Fan Lift as a wake up to slow down a rusher mostly. If their timing is poor then use normal Fan Lift, if you don't want to take the risk then use EX Fan Lift. It's also a good weapon against people who love to jump.

@Exemery; Jump in punch, You can swap it for B+2 as it does more damage but you have to dash further and it's harder to hit in the corner.
