On one of the Pax videos Brian says that Story mode is about 5-6 hours long. The Aussie classification report said that it was 15 hours long! Uh-oh...

5-6 hours long simply wouldn't be anywhere near long enough to tell a story that encompasses MK1, MK2, and MK3/UMK3. I'm gonna go with the Aussie Classification Report on this one.

This video has a lot of random crap in it from PAX but you can see Kitana's full xray around 5 minutes in it as well as Kung Laos fatality (not the buzzaw one) on Kit at the end:

While that would make sense, having seen some of the leaks I can assure u that the story is one continuos flow divided by chapters. Not like MKvsDC where u had two sides to the coin. (Hope this doesnt need a spoiler tag, if so my apologies.)

I don't think we'll have two separate sides, but I kinda hope you're right, I was really looking foward for those 15 hours. But, if we think reasonably, it's more likely it's only 5-6 hours, because it's a fighting game, it already has all the fighting mechanics, tag-team, challenge tower... the story mode is not the main focus of this game, it's not a God of War or something like that. I'd jeez my pants if the Story Mode is really 12/15 hours long.
