Future of MK

I'm curious how the story will be like. I feel like having it set during the Great Kung Lao time may cause NRS to cut out some major characters unless they do something creative.

I know this goes without saying but It's been that way ever since video games exsisted. "Execs" see video game IPs as nothing more than a trojan horse to lure customers in to extract as much money as possible. We've seen this fail time and time again but much like gambling in Vegas it doesn't stop big publishers from trying. That's why They're in so much debt now. They're all fighting for the same slice of pie that's getting smaller by the day.
Actually a lot of companies were bought by Execs or went public and got Execs as an extra in early 90/2000s. While corporate tendrils did exist for a long time, they didn't infest gaming until the start of late 2000s.
Once steady growth and financial potential was noticed, then Execs came rushing in, offering their services.
It didn't help that many game devs didn't have business management skills or didn't want to be in that position, so they allowed suits to direct the operations.

Basically lots of OG devs are regretting taking the offers, as a vast majority of them left due "creative differences".

Well it's not surprising why devs leave AAA projects. Outside of being worked to death,The cost of those games is at a all time high and most big publishers require at least a billion return to consider it profitable. MK11 did hit that number but it came at a much Higher cost. The VG industry AAA bubble is going to burst. It's only a matter of time.

Game dev is hard, but it is one thing to be pushed into hell by someone and walking into it by yourself.
At this point, anyone that wants to work for corpo is either naive or retarded. You're not the there to make games and explore ideas. You're there to be used as an expendable tool. Hence why corpos are jumping to A.I tools now. "It will help artists! Trust us!". Aha.
If A.I tool can generate a much higher number of pictures, models, music, etc, than a human being, then it means it can accelerate the creation process. It also means that thousands of artists, that we employ can Get the Fuck Out! Industrilization and Automatization baby!

Aaaand that's how they will crash and burn. Because they never tried to make sure that stuff is WELL MADE.

Yeah. AAA with all its millions in budget, have nothing on Indies, who are limited by resources and have to be both creative and resourceful with what they have to achieve their ideas. They also don't have a leash on their necks.
Now AAA is basically sequels of old franchises or reboots/remakes, cause that's the only thing they can make now. Originality and creativity is out of the window. They have none of that. OG devs are gone, passionate devs are gone and only college graduates and social activists is all that is left.

As for game development costs, it is a complete and utter fucking lie. They spend insane amounts on marketing, celebrity voice actors, throw money around on useless shit and then cry about the costs, WHILE charging 70 bucks for a DIGITAL COPY. Just years ago, we could buy a physical copy with a manual, extra stuff and physical disc inside the box for the price of 60 bucks. Once digital stores became a thing, we only get a key to the game, we don't even have physical copy of it, which means they don't have to spend money on production of physical discs or logistics as much, and yet they STILL charge the same amount for DIGITAL COPY KEY. Not to mention.
Dev tools have advanced to such level, that what once took weeks to make, now takes a day to generate and these greedy ass cunts dare to lie to us about game dev becoming more expensive? It ain't games that are becoming more expensive, but just their pockets becoming deeper. These sacks of shit, have been drowning entire industry of passionate people, just cause they need another Super Yacht for their collection.

And like you said. They will crash. Indies will be fine, but AAA is gonna BURN.

As much as I agree about the AAA industry BSing people into paying more for games nowadays. I do think the outrage is overblown. Most if not all these AAA games end up on sale within 3 months of their release. I'm mainly on PlayStation but some of my friends have Xbox gamepass and just use that. I rarely if ever pay full price for any game anymore. As much as I want to play Hitman 3, there's no way in hell that I'm forking out 70 bucks for it. The irony of a lot people who cry about this are the same people who pay up to 100 dallors for their yearly COD fix. All i'm saying is a little self restraint goes a long way.

It depends on the game's sales. If the game sells good, then the price stays up for a long time. Not just 3 months. (It took 10 years for original Modern Warfare games to drop from 60 to 20) You're talking about overpriced garbages like "Foreskin". Apparently sold so bad, that even Collector's edition was found in the landfill.
And yeah. I agree. A lot of reasons why execs go with nonsense prices like these or make "games" like Diablo Immortal, is because there is enough braindead whales, that are ready to spend thousands of dollars on the game.

So in a way, gamers also make their own hell. But then philosophical question comes up. Can we truly call someone a gamer, who finds more joy in spending money on the game, when actually playing it?

MK11 was on sale like 2 months later. 15 million copies, baby!

COD has always been the exception rather than the rule but like you said before if idiots are willing to pay for it than they only have themselves to blame.

Hey guys, long time no see.

I heard that MK12 has been leaked via some shareholder thing, and SF6 has also been announced for June.

I just wondered whether anyone thinks MK12 will be on XB1 also? I'm interested in checking out the game but have no interest in buying a new console. I only use my XB1 as a streaming platform and haven't played anything on it in several years. If the game is only on the newer XB versions and PC then I have no interest, but appreciate that due to tech limitations that may well be the case.

If they will stick to UE3 engine, then it should be fine, but if they moved to UE5, then yeah. It will be only next gen.

If rumors that I heard are true, then the game most likely won't be even worth trying.

I seriously doubt MK12 will be cross gen. The last time NRS did anything like that was the time they outsourced Injustice 1 to high voltage for the ps4 back in 2013. The silver lining to all this is by the time we finally do get MK12, you can pick up a Xbox series s for half the price of a PS5. If you do change your mind and decide to buy a new console. That would be your best bet IMO.

That's true, but the Series S is discless AFAIK, so I can't even use it as a DVD/Blu-ray player. Unless my XB1 literally burns out and stops working, I doubt I will upgrade consoles - I just never use the thing. The only reason I bought the XB1 to begin with was because my 360 had RROD'd and, by sheer coincidence, MKX had been announced a month or so later.

Nothing really detailed or massive.
Just got from the outside source, that there MIGHT be a crafting system in the game. Which could lead to a heavy Live Service Model.

During MK11 pre-launch, he got me a small leak about the looks of Cyrax and Sektor and then Frost full look, before it was even revealed (and he did say that she was originally Bald, but then they added that metal piece on her head). So he definitely can be trusted. Even so, even he stressed heavily, that it is a very faint rumor that he picked from the guys he knows in WB.

Funny how during MKX days, when I was fanboying, I couldn't get any information, but during MK11 days and after that, suddenly I get people dropping me leaks, even though, I don't really even care anymore.

Hell, the only reason, why I am even waiting for MK12 announcement is to see if the game will be a live service game with crafting system. Cause if it will be, then I will be dying from laughter. Not even brand recognition will help it avoid the shitstorm, that will come its way.

In a way it is kind of sad, that I am hoping for MK to burn, but eh. After all the garbage we had to deal with, it isn't really surprising. I have no delusions, that they will make anything worth my actual attention. I just want to see the train wreck.

To each their own but there are rumours suggesting that Microsoft may have a disc version of the series s in the works to compete with Sony's rumoured detachable disc drive on PS5. If Tomsguide.com is to be believed.

Thanks @Misucra @lariat

I'll keep an eye out for any announcements; curious to see what the roster's like but the time travel/multiverse thing with MK11 bored me. I bought that game cheap on sale some time after it came out; I played through story mode in one sitting to see what it was all about and haven't touched it since. It may well be a solid game but I've just never had the time or interest. I felt pretty burned by some of the roster choices in MKX (which was an otherwise solid game) and I just don't have the investment in this franchise to wait like two games for characters I like. I've never had any interest in the Hollywood DLC characters either.

If there's an XB1 version I might pick it up eventually, but otherwise I guess that's me out.

Cheers.

Amen to that. You can spend half of your life, until you get to see your favorite character in MK.
