Also since they tried out skarlet I really think they might as well give Hydro and Tremor a try. THe malfunctioning cyborg idea I had for Hydro would be the way I would bring him in. Like the water malfuntioned his cybernetic parts thus leaving him malfunctioning.

I'm fine with Tremor, just not as a "ninja" character. Actually there are a few characters that I think should really be unmasked by now. First off, Sub-Zero should always have an alt that looks like my profile pic. This is what I have ALWAYS imagined Sub-Zero to look like. I am surprised that the artist made my vision exactly, but dang he is truly talented.

Also, Rain should be unmasked at this point as well. Give him long black hair and make him have more of a regal appearance. Reptile has already pretty much been unmasked, and Ermac doesn't look like a ninja anymore. So really that just leaves Scorpion, Noob, and Smoke. I would also be fine with Smoke being unmasked. Capitalizing on his demon background would be the perfect way to go maskless for him. Scorpion and Noob are the only characters I feel should always be masked though.

So, if tremor debuts then unmask him. We need differentiation in characters. Hell all of the females have been unmasked at this point. Why not the males too?

Also if hydro debuts. I feel that he should have a darkblue mixed with like electric yellow-green coloring. He would be an amazing looking cyborg.

Edit: I found a pair of shoes that actually captures the coloring I want for Hydro perfectly.lol. He should be navy blue with yellow lighting. like this:

You forgot Skarlet and Tremor. They've been added in MK9 and most likely will be in MK10.


And also add Nitara and the woman in Jade's ending. Then we're good.

I don't want the ninjas unmasked, at least not as a default.
I'd be fine with unmasked alternates unlocked after beating Ladder Mode with that character, like in MK9, but the default should be masked.
Unmasking them from the start takes away all the mysticism of being a "ninja" for me.
Tremor, Ermac and Rain should stay masked, especially Tremor.
Smoke can be unmasked now that we know that he'd a demon.
Sub-Zero can also be unmasked like his MK3 default.

If Tremor is in MK9, I want him to look masked like he did in the Vita version, but with his arms and legs more like the Sandman, where he can form them into any shape:

I agree on Ermac. Like I said, his look has changed from "Ninja" looking anyway. He doesn't look anything like a ninja, but more like a mummy. He has identity though and that's a good thing.

The ones that should be unmasked though are Sub-Zero, Smoke, Rain, Reptile (unless human), and if Tremor was introduced he would need to be as well. I am actually the opposite because I would be fine with a masked alt, and an unmasked main. I just think we should be able to move past being the Ninja game. It's like Hydro, I really like him, but even though I want him introduced as a cyborg that also risks bringing in too many cyborgs. Bringing identity to the characters can only help them in the long run.

I feel like Rain out of all of them could benefit the most. He isn't really a ninja. He's a warrior prince. I see no reason whatsoever for him to even be masked at this point besides he was introduced as purple ninja so he needs to stay purple ninja. He's a prince. He should be dressed in his regal purple attire, not dressed like a wannabe ninja. I'm the same way with the females as well. Unmasked main and masked alt. They could also experiment a bit more with some of the characters looks as well. Like Shredder Sub-Zero was one of my favorite looks for him.

I think Kitana could benefit from like a movie inspired look as well. Like this:



I'm all for experimenting with the looks of the characters as long as it's not along the line of turning someone cyber ala Sub-Zero. That's a little too far.

Also I like the sand inspired look, but I think they should save a character with powers similar to clayface for another character entirely. I like Clayface and a moveset inspired by him for another character would be awesome, but it wouldn't fit tremor.

Tremor needs the earthquakes, and maybe he could like disappear into the ground and popup behind his opponent for a teleport. Also turning his fists to stone couldn't hurt either. I just think tremor would be a character who would deal a lot of damage with one hit. He would be a big dude too similar to a sheeva typer character but with more at his disposal than her. Another move could be like a sandstorm that he works up to temporarily stun the opponent. His projectile could just be similar to a projection of wavelike energy towards the opponent (this would make sense because he would be sending wavelike projections into the ground for his earthquakes as well).

The Unmasked mains take away the mysticism like commander said. It would be like saying Batman needs to lose his cowl because he's had the same look for to long and he should move past it.

The Ninja personas are the same. There's Hanzo a former husband and father. Then in uniform it's Scorpion, a ruthless Ninja Assassin that is loyal to his Clan. You take that away and you'll lose character depth. The masks do more then add flash to their look. It adds levels to the characters that would otherwise be hard to establish let alone restablish. but "Ninjas" In my honest opinion should stay Masked. Especially For Reptile him without his mask was a terrible design choice.

What if he was the actual Edeian prince? A hidden son of King Jarod. It puts him right in the story of two characters Ermac and Rain. It could also give him ties with Raiden. Whom he could have a grudge with for letting his family be manipulated by Quan chi and Shao Kahn? What are your thoughts?

Can't compare Batman with them. Batman needs his cowl to protect his identity and to protect the ones close to him mainly and it's less about "mysticism". Yes it adds a bit to the character depth, but we must look at the purpose for which wears a cowl more than anything else. Why do the all the so called "ninja" character of MK need mysticism anyway? The only character that is somewhat close to a real life Ninja is Scorpion ( and by extension sub zero too, but SZ has himself denied he isn't one) and even he really has no need to keep the mask as he is just taking part in a tournament mainly and not for assassinating anyone. Same goes for Sub Zero, their real names are already revealed as Bi Han and Kuai Liang and many other than the Lin Kuei know this, making the point of their masks moot.

Back in the day, the only reason we had different colored "ninjas" was because the general public considered them "cool" and we're fairly uneducated on what they really were. MK characters have evolved more than that now, perhaps the masks could remain for a few characters like Scorpion (since he is actually a Ninja) and maybe Ermac ( a character where the "mystecism" is actually there). I find no reason for Rain, Smoke, Reptile etc to continue wearing their masks, there are much better, logical and creative ways to evolve them rather than sticking to an outdated, faulty concept.

I was thinking a relation to King Jarod as well, but they need to add more than that, explain why he wasn't mentioned in the original timeline if he is bought in now and also the changes in this timeline that triggered his inclusion. A retcon would be the easiest solution, but I'd prefer them getting creative with the original story.

As for him having a grudge against Raiden, I don't think that would really work since Raiden was never involved in any matter relating to Edenia, he could have a grudge against Raiden for other reasons though.

As I said in the previous post, those characters besides Scorpion aren't Ninja in the first place. The masks and garbs were there purely for aesthetic reasons and nothing really to do with the character. Sub Zero, Smoke and Rain has no reason to hide their identity unless they are going on assassination missions, which they rarely did go in the story. The masks could be a part of the clan's uniform which could be a reason for the, to have masks, but then again we are talking just about aesthetics here and that to based on a wrongly interpreted concept.

The real definition of a ninja are those skilled, well versed in the art of Nin-Jut-su. They may choose whether to be assassins or not. Thus all assassins, crime lords, lackeys need not be a ninja.

I don't really see why we need to worry about "mysticism" for the ninjas anyway when this series is two decades old now

The mysterious aspect was great back then when the characters were just getting introduced to us.

But now that the characters and everything about them are well-established to us now, why try to hold on to that aspect? You say removing the mask removes character depth, I say that keeping the mask only gives the false illusion of character depth. Just because someone wears a mask doesn't always mean there's a lot more to them *cough* Reptile *cough*. Removing it, on the other hand, while continuing to develop the character is a true show of character depth in my eyes

I don't know about y'all, but removing the masks of the ninjas/assassins would earn NRS a lot of respect because that would mean that the characters are not only growing, but NRS as well. That would prove that NRS can go beyond the bread-and-butter ninja design that we've come to know, and that their ability to create characters has evolved, as well

Ehhhh, it's not a bad idea, but I'd rather not, since it reminds me too much of Rain's story

Maybe he could be the former guard of the entrance gates to Edenia? Or something
