Why does no one like the announcer voice?

I keep hearing that no one likes the MK9 announcer voice. I actually think it might be another nod to the "retro" theme of the game. I'm not entirely sure but I have heard that the person doing the announcer voice this time around is Kevin Michael Richardson who has voiced many different cartoons and characters in recent years. He does have a history with the MK franchise though. He was the voice of Goro in the first MK movie. No idea if this can be confirmed or not but they do sound really close.

Anyway I do like the voice. It's got a very cold attitude to it. Almost sounds like the person doesn't care which way the fight goes as long as the people in it get bloodied up.
 
Maybe because it doesn't sound like Shao Kahn's voice... heared since MKII

I'm thinking that this voice it's more similar to the MK1 the voice... :P
 
They have fixed the voice a lot, listen to the difference in the way the announcer sounds in scorpions bio:


Now Listen to the announcer in the more recent Sub Zero bio:


Notice how the announcer says FINISH HIM, and FATALITY differently in both? I think they realized how many fans hated the original voice and decided to change it.

And if they really wanted to go Klassic, they shouldve brought Steve Richie (Shao Kahn's voice) back to do the announcer voice, that wouldve been EPIC!
 
i want shao kahn to be the announcer again
i loved his voice on mk 2 and 3
and i was happy to hear him back in shaolin monks
i wish he came return for mk9
but i guess not

Yeah!!! They made the voice more enthusiastic and in a lower tone... the first "Finish Him" was almost unhearable, the sound modification has improved a lot the result... great observation Taj Gill...

I have just a doubt... when you play in the Throne Room, and in Kahn's Arena... in both scenarios Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn are yelling respectively in each scenario.. do you think they will have a different voice when they say "Finish Him", "Superb" or something like that?:twisted:
 
It's a great improvement, yet it's light years away from MK II Shao Kahn. If Steve Ritchie haven't retired from the professional world, they should bring him back.

and it well be more realistic

I loved the echoey, deep and dark voice of Shao Kahn that was used in MK2 and 3, the other's just have this "Off" and "Tryhard" vibe to it.

Steve Ritchie's voice was iconic. Changing it is like the difference between diet and regular soda - it's just different enough to be obviously not the real thing.
 
i dont like either of the anouncers we have heard so far in MK9, and the MK2 + MK3 announcer was the best by far, and anything since has failed to capture it properly, surly with todays technology they can tweak any voice to sound like the MK2/3 anouncer, i know it may seem like a small thing but if this is a remake of MK1,2 and3 then the announcer has to be as good as it was then if not better, i hope the MK team are working on this because although it may seem like a small detail to the game to a lot of hardcore fans its a big deal :)
 
I like the new voice, alot! It sounds very sadistic. I know this is suppose to be kind of a throw back game made in new times, but I think the old shao kahn voice should stay in the old games. I am a big fan of the Shao Kahn laugh though!

In 0:45 Kahn's saying something after a good technique.. I imagine he is saying something like "Superb" or "Well done"...
in 0:53 Reptile does a combo move and Kahn yells again.
Look in 2:00 at Shao Kahn when in screen it says "Finish him".. It can be seen clear that he is yelling and pointing the victim that has to be finished at the same time...

Hmm, well the reason I think it's different is because it's a different time and usually with a transitional voice over, you want to give something that people won't get bored of. Steve Ritchie did a great announcer with Shao Kahn, but the thing is taking the risk of bringing something back from a different time in gaming. It would also sound different due to the difference in audio quality over the years as well.

Also the new voice fits the mood of the game pretty well. Sometimes bringing a unique sound to the table is something that might pull you into the game even more.

Sounds menacing (like Goro was in the MK movie).
Question is who's voice is it suppose to be?
I hope it's not Khan since it will make no sense.

What if the 2 different voices we heard already from scorpion and subzero's bio, one belongs to old Shang Tsung and the other to Shao Kahn? The voice would change accordingly to who is present in the fight. If young Shang Tsung is fighting you get shao kahn's voice in the throne room for example.
