Why did Smoke get slapped by Reptile/ Sub Zero/ Scorpion?

I'm actually very dissapointed with Smoke and Sub Zero's default costume in MK9. I know alot of you didn't like Reptile's default costume, but you have to admit it had lots of detail.

Scorpion gets his best costume yet: A ninja mask with a golden scarab in the middle, complete with a scorpion stinger. He gets these nice patterns on his clothes, double swords with scorpion stingers as handles, not to mention those awesome gold gloves.

Look at Reptile. True enough that he sorta looks like a bird, but he looks even better this way. He actually has nice armor, a sweet mask, golden snake eyes, scaly green scales, and those AWESOME ninja shoes/gloves.

Now look at Sub-Zero. A stone demon belt, demon shoulderplates complete with a set of gauntlets wrapped in blue cloth. Wait, I take that back, the demon patterns on his BELT, SHOULDERPLATES, GLOVES, AND HIS BOOTS. LOOK AT HIM.

And did you notice Smoke just standing in the corner, uglier than he ever was? Let's see: He got gray metal boots, gray metal gloves, and a gray metal chestplate. *Yawn* Oh, and his HAIR. All he looks like right now is like, a, like an old lady from a Japanese horror movie! His costume barely changed, except for the fact that now he's even uglier and he lost the original gridded pattern on his clothes.

Why didn't NRS make SMOKE into a cyborg, keeping the regular Sub-Zero? I know many others who are craving for a "Cyborg Smoke."

because this is essentially a time travel story where Raiden tries to change certain events thats why smoke was human and Sub-Zero got turned into a cyborg instead

But hey I like Sub-Zero and Smoke's design.

By default I am assuming you meant primary. I personally loved Sub Zero's primary, it is my favorite after MkD's Sub Zero's primary costume with his ancestral armor. The shin guards, belts, shoulder plates were a nice addition imo, it made him unique and stand out. Same with smoke. I love what NRS did with his hair. I like the way it flows, it has got that 'smokey' feel to it and personalises him much better than him being a generic grey ninja character. I got nothing to complain about his attire as well, he was always meant to be a grey garbed ninja based character and adding those light weight armor pads/plates was a good improvisation. I wouldn't want either Sub Zero or Smoke to be heavily clothed and with full body heavy armor since it won't fit those characters well at all. In short I liked those two characters ,their looks and their attire.

My issue with smoke's default is that it looks like random bits from other costumes stuck together with troll doll hair. I like his mask, gauntlets and his loin cloth thing but the ensemble as a whole doesn't sit well with me.

Smoke's default is lame, but his alternate is good. I think his alternate should have been his primary, and his alternate be a cyborg version of him. Like Cyrax and Sektor have their human forms.

I agree I really like Smoke's alternate, it's a lot better than the default, it's the hair on the default, fugly.

They should have gone with alternate for default and cyborg as alternate, that would have made more people happy.

Cyber Smoke is my most wanted character now besides the MK4 characters now that Rain is in, so yeah, he really should have been in over Cyber Subby

And I agree, he looks silly with his hair, but hey, at least they tried something new

Yeah, kinda... I don't bear much love for classic costumes, aside from Mileena's UMK3 costume. I think they lack the detail MK9 costumes have. But well, that's only me.

I think Kabal was the only character that had an alternate look in the story mode.

I think Sub-Zero's costume is fine considering I use MK3 only.

Smoke could have used some more originality. Maybe no cloth or a cooler belt. Maybe on his left hand there is a wrist accessory and no armor. Hair was definetally creative and a good move for NRS.
