Who plans on being competitive in MK9?

What I mean by competitive is that you're going to play to win. Constantly learning new combos, tactics, stratigies etc. Who here plans on really improving their game and maybe even plan on playing in tournaments for money?

I dont mean playing for 19 hours straight, It dosent take life dedication to be good at fighting games lol, but rather than just playing to play are you going to try to win every match you play?

If you have XBL you should add me if you are.

I definitely won't mind losing matches online. But when I play I'll always try to win. I don't think anybody enjoys seeing their character's face eaten off.

I'll be playing for fun, because when you take video games too seriously it takes the fun out.

I understand your point of view, but being competitive isnt necessarily taking it seriously. Remember its all in good fun at the end of the day = )

Fighting games can sometimes sort of feel like playing chess. Like a battle of the minds.

Me and my buddies are really into the competitive fighting scene and in our community everyone is already talking smack about learning MK 100000% and owning everyone in tournaments once the game comes out.
I'm going to dissect and bring this game to its limits. New game = new players coming to tournaments at the beginning = more money in my pocket for winning.

I'm not getting it for Xbox though I'm getting it for PS3.
Anyone who'd like to play me just send a msg to my PSN along with an friend request.
It's SipMilkOutMyAss.

I think taking fighting games super seriously brings them to a new level of fun. There is so much more than meets the eye at high level play. I just can't get enough of it.

Yeah, my views exactly.

Winning is GREAT but to dedicate my time to winning all the time.....meh, I would rather play for fun and take some losses than strive to be a winner every time.

I'm 50/50, I don't play to win, I play for fun - but I am actively learning new things and trying to be a good player. I've never played competitively, but if the chance comes up then I may participate. Considering where I live though, the chance probably won't come up. I don't care for money, I'd just love a fun offline tournament.

Nah.. like Immortal Reaver said, i play video games for fun, im not into that stuff, also i really suck at mk's
(expect mk1 in wich im ok at it) to participe in tournaments for money, and im not thinking on getting better cuz i play games for fun not for see who is the best mk player.

I know I won't. Other than playing/teaming up with members on here that I added on PSN and other friends, I won't be playing competitively, online or tournament-wise.

I will be rooting for members on here that go to Evo though, because I'll be watching that.

Exactly.

People have this idea that the best fighting game players are the most skillful, but its not the case most of the time. Sure the skill and execution is a big part of it, but the BIGGEST part of it is the psychological game you have to play with your opponent. It's what sets apart the good fighters to the AMAZING fighters. Reading your opponent's next move through their body language and pattern is crazy intense in a good battle. You could literally feel when your opponent is getting frustrated or angry. You could feel when they are scared and/or confused and you capitalize on it. It's what the tournament players live off of.

The best way I explain it to people who question why I'm so into the fighting game scene in the US is to compare it to basketball. People watch basketball on TV and get really into it because they understand the game well and they see how skillful and tricky the players are sometimes and they get hyped when something great happens. It's the same for people who love fighting games, it's exactly that.
