What does a "N00bish" Smoke look like?

Hey all,

I consider myself a very good Smoke player. I've made and tested all of his combos in the official Smoke thread, can blast through Arcade Ladder on Expert, and generally have the timing of his every move down pact.

Downside is that I'm on PS3, which means I can't put these skills to good use.

So I ask you, what do these "N00bish Smokes" look like? What are their general strategies to winning? I've heard so much about Smoke being common online, so what do you notice/find most irritating about the basic Smoke player?
 
I'm a ps3 gamer as well but, i play local against my friends, and when they use smoke they overuse the teleport and smoke bomb. and like most noobs don't complete his combos, they just button mash. but thats true for every character
 
I'm also a PS3 user too and i played about an hour before psn went down and I saw alot of smokes and noob saibot. The thing with smoke that irritates me most would be his teleport punch and his fast speed. Sometimes I think, "Yes I blocked the two hits from his teleport punch, now I can counter attack" but they use the enhanced version and catch me out.I've seen some spam that smoke bomb thing they throw at the feet of the opponent and hope one of them hit.

But having practiced with my Kung Lao and Raiden, I can now beat them easily.

They just teleport and throw the smoke bomb. Theres a guy on xbox live ranked 3 named IVERSON and i faced him a couple times and all he did was smoke bomb and teleport. Than he sent me a message afterwards saying "I practice alot" than I lol'd because he wasnt that good he just pulled off the same 2 moves than he did some little bullcrap combo
 
I'm actually good with other characters and for some reason I just can't figure out how to string together long combos with smoke. Sooo being a noob with him at the moment, he does have a very fast teleport to abuse if the other guy doesn't catch on to block it. I hate using characters I'm not familiar with online though so I don't play with him often and the lag is still so bad, I stay away from online most of the time anyway. Its ashame cause king of the hill is an awesome concept and I can't even consider playing it.
 
I have yet to meet a good smoke on the xbox, granted I only played like 80 games. They spam smoke cloud and teleports. But the cloud is easy to block and the teleport is to punish

@DarkSideOfTheMoon - I'm so wishing I was on XBOX, if so I'd teach him what real practicing paying off looks like. (;
 
you guys have to face me seriously ( I am on xbox).... I am a good SMOKE player... I am tired of this boards hate with SMOKE. The noobs with smoke only do the teleport punch and thats it. Sometimes people get upset at me and they rematch and they pick smoke only to lose worse than they did before. I have mastered him, etc. I never use x-rays and the smoke bomb is best used to link combos not just randomly. Also, I know all his combos and I use them all in every fight to mix it up. you never know what is coming... noobs really give smoke a bad rep.
 
Somebody that alternates between smoke bomb and teleport, always outwith combo's and when it lands, doesn't maximise on damage with an appropriate juggle.
 
I'm on PS3 as well. I've played many friends locally and my Smoke is undefeated. I simply use pressure when needed given the situation. I very rarely use naked Smoke bombs or teleports unless I pressure into a trap. Otherwise the only time I use a Smoke Bomb is within a juggle combo to continue the string. I rarely see ppl use his hitless teleport correctly or even for evasion traps. E-Shake is an awesome counter for sticky situations instead of wasting for a Breaker if usable like (corner traps).

He has a good mixup and many ppl just need to think outside the box.
 
People who are bad with Smoke love to teleport. They also block all the time and button mash when they can't do anything else.

(it's pretty much the same formula for all characters who can teleport)

thats funny you mention that... cuz I played him yesterday and crushed him with smoke. He was using Scorpion but I have a feeling he got autopicked because his cursor never moved at the char selection and it was about a minute before scorpion was picked. All he did was try to block and uppercut it makes more sense since you say he uses smoke all the time.



To answer the OP's question I would say online the "noob smokes" only try to use the teleport and smoke bomb. I use both quite a lot myself... but I am almost perfect with the timing. These "noobs" will literally teleport into you while youre holding block. They also dont know any combos and are just generally bad players.

Smoke is one of those characters people over-use on the Xbox with the smoke bomb and teleport. I like using Smoke, but people don't really see his full potential. He has good combos and his shake move is actually really useful. Smoke and Lui Kang would be a great combo against people that spam. Smoke can cancel out ranged abilities while Lui Kang can get some nice counters. But most people that use Smoke generally just teleport and use the smoke bomb.
