Araknyd, you mentioned that developers didn't have devkits for the next-gen consoles? Those were sent out in late 2011, so for all we know, WB could be a year and a half into MK10 or their next-gen game's development. Even if a studio focuses on one game, they always have a small group that does prelim work on another; storyboarding, concepts, writing, etc. That way, when NR would be done with Injustice, they can jump right in. Almost every studio does that. Even before Halo 4 was released, 343 had a small group doing the early work of Halo 5.
NRS doesn't have the dev kit yet because Ed Boon even mentioned on twitter that he doesn't know what the PS4 looks like yet.
If they had a dev kit, they'd know what it looks like by now.
Call of Duty vs any other game is a terrible example.
You could make a game called COD: Shit Monsters vs Dinosaurs and the masses would flock to it because it has the COD name on it.
Even though MK is huge, it's NOT COD huge.
Sorry, but that example is bad.
Also, considering that lots of people aren't too happy with the whole DRM thing that PS4 and XboxONE are planning and implementing, lots of people (at least according to twitter and recent polls) have been saying that they would rather hold on to their current consoles, rather than support the DRM stuff on net-gen consoles.
Sure, agreed there are a lot of variables.
NRS also has to consider the fact that not everyone will pay $400 to $600 for a console, when it first comes out either.
Making a game for a console that lots of people may not have in the first year is dumb
(unless it's a launch title), because not everyone will have the console.
NRS would make more money the next year because more people would have the console the next year, which means that more people would buy the game.
Also, considering that you couldn't even get the current gen consoles for months after their initial release in 2006, and the Wii was even harder to find the first 6 months or so, it may take a while before people get their hands on it.
Mortal Kombat, even though it's my 2nd favorite game series, is NOT a console launch title.
Again, MK is huge, but Sony and Xbox One aren't going to use MK10 as a launch title (If that's what you're implying), especially considering that it's a sequel to a reboot.
If MK9 was developed for those systems, it would have been a PERFECT next-gen system launch title, considering that the era of MK that people are MOST familiar with is MK1 thru UMK3.
