Fight fans have been clamoring for Sega to release Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown on consoles for years now, and soon the wait will finally be over. The game will be released digitally on PlayStation Network June 5 and Xbox LIVE Arcade June 6 for an attractive $14.99/1200 Microsoft Points.

Along with the game itself, character customization packs will be available for $4.99. Each pack contains 600-950 items. Alternately, you can grab nine or ten characters' worth at once for $14.99. Given you'd be paying more for cosmetic DLC than the game itself if you got everything, we'd recommend only grabbing a couple for your favourite characters.

Final Showdown, if you need a refresher, rebalances the game, remodels arenas, and adds returning character Taka-Arashi and newcomer Jean Kujo. The console release boasts many exclusive features: online play on both platforms, Training Mode, eight player Online Room Match Mode, and match recording/uploading.

I can't WAIT for this. Virtua Fighter is one of the most underrated fighting games ever made, I think the fan petitions got somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,000 printed pages worth of signatures plus it's going to make it's first EVO appearance. Finally we can stop watching Bob vs Bob and start watching something worthwhile.

I have VF 5 right now. But, I may trade it in for DOA5 since Sarah Bryant, Ayane, Hitomi, Kasumi, Helena, and Christie will be there. So I'm most likely not getting this. :aetsch:

Instead of rehashing of a game that is five years old, why can't Sega just move onto Virtua Fighter 6?

Sega still makes money off of VF5. Sega owns several multi-story arcade facilities in Japan, and VF is one of the most popular 3D fighters over there. The revisions, both functional and cosmetic, keep the game alive (and feeding coins into their machines). They don't depend on console sales, since it's more or less a niche series everywhere else.

It's looks like the release date will be June 5th. It will be priced at $15 without putting DLC into consideration.

The demo will only be available on XBOX 360. Also it will include some Training mode functionality, Score Attack mode, and characters Jean, Taka, Sarah and Jacky will be playable.

I have not been able to get the game yet since I removed my old television and haven't found a replacement yet. Anyways, I wanted to ask if the base game offers customizations for the core game or do you need to purchase the dlc? I have been getting conflicting messages about the base costumes; one say you get all 6 from the start while others say you only get 2.

Thing is, this game is older, so there isn't many people online.

I'm debating if I should try and learn Akira a little. It should be fun, but the lack of players demotivates me a little. Akira is just too boss, and his theme proves it.

Also, still haven't won a match online. Everyone is like, beyond good.

Sadly among the major fighting game series, VF is one of the least popular and played.

Akira's moves have a more difficult input than most, but he's a otherwise straightforward character. As powerful as he is, lot of his moves are linear though, they can be sidestepped if you see them coming.

I mainly like playing as Lau or Wolf.
