THIEF: The Dark Project
( Released November 30, 1998 )
Thief is a game that takes place in a fictional place called the City, combining the feel of medieval and steam-punk.
The game begins with Garrett, the protagonist, describing his youth as a homeless orphan on the City's streets.
He gets caught attempting to pickpocket a suspicious man who reveals himself to be a Keeper.
Impressed by Garrett's ability to see him, he offers him the chance to join his order.
Garrett accepts and joins the order, but he later leaves the order to pursue a life of thievery.

THIEF II: The Metal Age
( Released February 29, 2000 )
Thief II: The Metal Age continues some time after the events of the first game.
The "Metal Age" has come, and the city has changed with new technology.
Cameras and steam powered robots are brought forth by the Mechanists, the current most powerful religion in the city.
The sheriff (Gorman Truart) rules over the city attempting to clean up the streets of everything, including Garrett,
who wants nothing to do with saving the world.

THIEF: Deadly Shadows (aka Thief III)
( Released May 25, 2004 )
Garrett steals a rare opal from a nobleman's castle.
After getting it, he is contacted by Keeper Artemus to steal two Artifacts;
The Builder's Chalice and the Jacknall's Paw, in exchange for access to the Keeper Prophecies.
After hearing about a coming Dark Age, Garrett reads about a lost book, the Compendium of Reproach,
which supposedly offers information about it.

THIEF (previously titled THI4F)
( Release date - February 25, 2014 )
This new THIEF game is not a prequel or sequel to the original games.
It is a reboot of the franchise with elements of the original.
THIEF is set in a dark fantasy world inspired by Victorian and steampunk.
Garrett is a master thief who has been away from his hometown for a long time, and returns to it.
When he returns to his hometown, a city named 'The City', Garrett finds it ruled over by a tyrant called 'The Baron.'
While The City is infested by a plague, the rich continue to live in good fortune,
and Garrett intends to exploit the situation to his favor.

I'm actually looking forward to getting this game. I've look at the concept art of it and it intrigued me a lot. (And I thought I could get the art book although it's not out yet) Can't wait for it to come out!

I love these type of games like Thief and Dishonored (I know that Thief is what started it all).
I love your Corvo sig, btw. ;)

What makes me even happier about this new Thief is that the devs (Eidos Montreal) are actually listening to the fans, and giving it more of that oldschool Thief feel to it.

Gotta give some love to a game with multiple arrow types. I like the recent update I heard about creating your game mode(s). You can set it up so that if you "die" game is over. Then you can combine that with another mode lije getting caught=death. Thats scary. Seems like a mad long game though and Im not done with AC4 yet. Its already taking away from my KI time. Verdict=Pass

Somehow it looks even better than Dishonored which was my favorite game of last year.

Same here.
Dishonored was my 2012 GOTY and The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches were even better than the main game, IMO.
Dishonored took inspiration from the original Thief games, and this new Thief game looks like it took some inspiration from Dishonored.
Either way, it looks amazing and I can't wait to play it next month.

I hate people who say that it looks like a first person Assassin's Creed. And that's coming from an AC fanboy. This looks nothing like AC. Anyway, I was hoping there would be some sort of collector's edition (Would have pre ordered it instead of the Watch Dogs CE.) available.

I hate that too.

If anything, it can be compared more to Dishonored, which Dishonored was an inspiration of the original Thief games, anyways.
In other words, Thief looks like Thief.

Thins game looks trash to me for some reason.. I can't say that I'm a fan as much as I'd like to be :-| even the story is "meh" at best to me. I'll still rent it and give it a chance but for now.. It's rated soggy butt cheeks to me.

What?
Why?

Maybe not being as much of a fan of the series is why you don't like it, to begin with. ;)

It reminds me a lot of the old Thief games (at least according to the gameplay vids, thus far), and it's a reboot of the story.

For starters, the first person view sandbox style in my opinion should have been an option. A game like this in 3rd person would have suited my taste more (Even though this game made that style iconic)

The "steal whatever, however, whenever" will get old fast. Having no bounds on how to play allows the players to take cheap and easy way out. Why play the game the way it was designed if I don't have to? It's sound like a broken mechanic.

Last thing is once you beat the game there isn't much of a replay value. "Beat the game kill no one" "beat the game kill everyone" "beat the game steal everything" lameness.

I'm just not that excited about it..

Well, we can agree to disagree, then.
1st person has been part of Thief since the first 3 Thief games.
This isn't Metal Gear Solid.

The "steal whatever, however, whenever" didn't get old in Dishonored.
The beauty of having no bounds is being able to play the game however you want to play it.
There will always be people looking for an easy way out, ever since the oldschool NES days, when people put cheat codes in.

Replay value can appeal to people for different reasons in different games, aside from just kill, no-kill and steal everything.
Dishonored for example, has different consequences for your actions, as well as a different darker ending.
If you killed more people, there were more zombies, rats and plague and the atmosphere felt way different.
How do you know that Thief won't have similar gameplay type elements to it?
