Hope everyone's new year is off to a great start. I wanted to start the new year off with a thread dedicated to this character.

The purpose of this thread is for people to say what they want about Reiko. Think he is an awesome character and hope he is in Mortal Kombat X? Say why here! Think he sucks and is a bland wannabe Shao Kahn? Tell us all about it.

I've never heard that one before. I can see where you're coming from, though, dude. Still, his affinity with Kahn, in my opinion, isn't enough of a reason to just toss him in the waste bucket. He has a connection with a few key players in Mortal Kombat, like Quan Chi, Shinnok, and Shao Kahn. I think that means he has potential!

Why did I know this thread was coming when i saw your comments about the post requirement for making threads? ;)

I would love to see Reiko playable in MKX, it's been to damn long.

I for one would love to see Reiko in MKX

Not bc of the whole Kahn is Reiko/Reiko is Kahn conspiracy but bc I like the character. He is shrouded in mystery. All we really know is that he used to be a General in Shinnoks Brotherhood of Shadow Army, and also a General in Shao Kahns Army.

I think he has a great look and he has a potential to have a great story line. I would just like to see him get more depth to his character

This is pretty much how i feel about the character too.
I never cared for the helmet crap, i just thought he was pretty bad ass.

I'm glad you guys feel that MKX would benefit from Reiko being a playable character. While the "Reiko is Kahn" theories are a thing of the past, I do think they could explore it. Back when MK4 and Gold were just coming out, a lot of people thought that he truly was Kahn unmasked. I wonder if an explanation of Reiko being Kahn would be crapped on if it went like this: The Elder Gods punish Kahn by sending him to the Netherrealm, stripped of his armor, hammer, and trademark helmet. There, he begins plotting revenge and comes in contact with Quan Chi, who is building forces to oppose Earthrrealm on behalf of Shinnok. Taking this as his opportunity to get back at those who took power from him, he joins the Brotherhood of Shadow and is rennamed "Reiko," much like Bi Han was later called "Noob Saibot." Obviously, the Netherrealm would have some effects on his physical appearance, which could explain the scaled down height or a decrease in muscle mass.

Just an idea!
 
well all i can say is, due to the obvious fact NRS are too gutless to follow a story and want to do nothing but cater to fanboys....They showed us this with kung laos inclusion, reikos chances just dropped dramatically...Coz if KL is in where does it stop?

I don't know about that. As I've stated previously, I don't care for Kung Lao at all but I'm going to wait to see what exactly he brings to the table before judging the move. I dislike the character but maybe he is an important plot device. I mean, we don't even know the story of MKX yet. Just because he is in it does not mean Reiko can't get in. There's still roster space! :-)

Lol, after he takes it from Quan Chi.

I think it would be cool if he wore a cape and a hood. Like he went into hiding after his leader went belly-up. And he is nuetral like Scorpion.

Everyone knew that at least a couple dead characters would come back, depending on the circumstances (Elder gods or Quan chi) this may not even change anything.
Don't talk as if you have amazing precognition because we don't know details about anything yet.

As far as Reiko goes his chances have not changed, he still has just as much chance as he did before.
I still think he has a relatively strong chance, this would be an opportune moment to cement this character as mid-high level threat.

I would love to stay away from anything that smells like a plothole or a future story inconsistency for MK.
It would be a very bad decision (on a similar level to cyber sub zero, with the possibility of being far worse.)

Seriously though, I would really like to see him in this game. He was so f****** cool in MK4. And his incredibly vague ending was one of the best (you know, until the sh** writing ruined him entirely). But since NRS is so lenient when it comes to retcons, I don't see why they can't bring him back without the Kahn Cosplay factor. I still want him to have some sort of connection to Kahn, but not a creepy "when you're out, I wear your underpants" kind of connection. Sh**, I'd be down with them revealing that Reiko is some sort of backup plan in case Kahn bites it... Some freaky deaky Horcrux deal or something.
 
Lots of good opinions in this thread!

I didn't really mind Cyber Sub-Zero, either way. I think most people just wanted to see that for a "what if" type of thing. In regards to Reiko being Kahn, I think it could be cool. Then again, him being his own character could be good. As long as they flesh him out, I don't see why a connection to Kahn is absolutely needed. Then again, him being Kahn's son with Sindel was a thought I had a while back.

Side note~ I'm hoping they have klassic skins this time around. I loved MK4 Reiko's outfit.
 
Reiko is my favourite male character. Only been in two games, but I loved playing as him in both. I think his looks in MKA is amazing. Absolutely the best of the MKA returnees, imo. His story is an enigma, but he proved in the very short scene with Taven in Konquest mode that he is more than a mindless henchman who just charge headfirst into battle with the protagonist.

These few things about him is enough for me to see the potential in him that very few MK characters have. It is the same I see in Tanya and Rain, two others most people would be happy never to see again - but to me it isn't about popularity, it's about potential.

It could go both ways though. NRS could completely eff it up with him by giving him the Reptile/Baraka treatment - two characters who have been in quite a few MK games, but never evolved into anything other than doormats and practise dummies. I sincerely hope it won't happen though.

I think they dropped the ball with Reptile for sure. I do remember hearing he was supposed to receive a huge push with the whole Dragon King thing but that never materialized, which sucks. Baraka, on the other hand, seems like he was ALWAYS supposed to be a grunt character. Sick design and fun to play with but, his Tarkatan ass never really had much story potential, in my opinion. Now, that could definitely change if he and Mileena end up having a baby but I'm not sure if that will happen. If they did, I prefer it be a girl with blades that look differently than Baraka's, as they are HIS thing.

I don't think they'd screw Reiko over like that, though, man. Him being a general in the armies of two main villains speaks volumes. He has sub boss potential if they do him right.

Though he might have the "boss" potential, I would prefer for him to be a regular playable character, because, well, then I can actually play as him again!
