The Tone of MKX

The worst thing is that it could have been miles better if the lighting wasn't as "full bright" as it is in the game, and was just a bit more moody as it is in the trailer.
The game looks as if it was lit using reflectors like the ones used for filming movies.

yah but in that trailer its still bright purples, and silly colors an pathetically over kill costumes, it just looks like a kids comic in cgi with some blood....an no, id rather no friendships coz the ywill take over the placing for extra fatals or brutalities, i would have rathered brutals then babals in mk9 ....Uker is right about cage too, its just sooo silly how they made him, every one was silly really... the lines an dialog was laughable

That's how their costumes have always been. You can't change EVERYTHING about the franchise. Agreed that they could do with a less "stripper" look for Mileena. But You simply cannot change their identifying colors for the sake of a darker atmosphere. It's who they are. Without purple, Mileena is just some fugly who can fight really well and has nasty teeth.

I'm not saying it has to be friendships. But MK has always had camp-y/silly elements peppered in SOMEWHERE in the gameplay. There should be somewhere where this is still featured. Be it a finisher or something else.

Uker is right about cage too, its just sooo silly how they made him, every one was silly really... the lines an dialog was laughable
This I agree with. But then again, almost ALL of the dialogue in MK2011 was laughable. Incredibly cheesy. I'd really appreciate some more serious writing and less jokes/scenes like Liu Kang flirting with Kitana, Johnny Cage and Jax fighting for some reason, etc.

Outside of some toy looking characters and Bo Rai Cho's "humor", MKD had an ideal tone for me. It was dark, it was mystic enough, it had couple classic backgrounds for nostalgia, it had a sence of death posibile out of nowhere (death traps), it had feel of eternety (Konquest), it even forced you to think (Chess, Onaga fight). Too bad roster sucked and fighting engine wasn't good enough.

Agreed.
I loved MKD's tone as well. I thought it was the right amount of escalation and darkness from its predecessor. Next to MK3's atmosphere, I'd say it was my favorite.

But as much as I love MK9, I feel like they did the MK3 section wrong. It didn't have the empty city and the scariness I find in that. It seemed to focus more on the moment of the invasion and not the errie aftermath the heroes face.

At anyrate, I'm sure MKX will take on the 'darker and grittier' thing which is fine by me.

I've always wanted a dark mk along the lines of deception. They tried the funny route with the last mk and it delivered about as well as an Adam Sandler movie. I really hope this trailer doesn't mislead us like the silhouette trailer. That made the mk9 story seem like it was going to be a dark take.

I wasnt talkin abotu the characters color purple like mileena in the trailer or mk9 i mean the stages bright purple pit 2 et etc....i dont wanna change the color and look how drastic the costumes have changed in mkx asnd they look WAY better like ninjas with cloth, leather an buckles...not chain maile an bits of amours plating haning off loin clothes like mk9s poor over kill designs... the mkx design on the costumes we have seen already make it look more serious

LOL. Nicely put.
MK9 feels like it aims at THAT type of audience.
The people who laugh at American Pie humor.

sad thing is Uker the majority of the fans of mk have always thought it was a camp comedy series...i never wanted that and never thought it was that until mk3

i just dont get why people want this game to be funny and have humor? it makes no sense to me..its a fighting game , and people die... thining back mk4 didnt have any thing comical... and i love they made reptile speak

The Lego Movie had a funny character like Johnny Cage as the main guy. I don't like things that are too serious.

if you want joke games play joke games... i never wanted mk to be a joke...and any one i know who loves the series, personally and grew up on it since mk1 never thought it was or should be a joke either, we have all cringed together since mk3... Only on the forums do you find people who love the game being a joke...

both in mk2...but i could handle it, coz it was not a focal point in the series, it was a mock...and the rest of the game remained serious
