The Player's Help Guide

Dash block to get in and try and trick out some cross overs and NEVER JUMP IN! And when an Ermac player uses the B2,2 wait for the Kick before stopping block unless you think he will stop it. Alot of people let go of block before the kick and get 43% combo'd at a minimum. Also Ermac players will make good use of the 1,2,1 and stop at 1,2 and grab watch for that as well. Basic advice yes, but it's really all you need to know aside from learning your opponents habits. Hope this helps.

One of my fav ermac combos and I use consistently is the F+1,1,4,teleport then into the 1,2,teleslam people dont expect it because so many players rely on the 1,2, teleslam. The combo I use is harder to anticipate and youre juggling them before ever using the slam. Another good one is the B+1,2,F+1 Ex Teleslam. People dont expect those as much. So always keep your guard up and practice off line against the expert AI as Ermac. I usually do this atleast an hour or so before online just like alot of other players do. And I use the telepush to lay down pressure, zone and keep away from mix ups. But I guess my question to everyone is when do you draw the line between spamming and zoning? I usually throw a few out then jump in and mix it up but while im trying to be respectable and fair sometimes doin so costs me a match. Any advice on the proper way to zone. MK etiquette if you will.

Re: The Official "I Quit" Thread

Scorpion's a ***** to play online. Way over-powered.
He has a teleport witch causes damage, the spear move witch causes damages plus allows scorpion to start a combo. un-blockable demon fire, and a air grab. someone could only know those moves and kick some ass. and the worse part is pretty much 70% of everyone who plays online. plays with scorpion. I've killed alot of of scorpions online, but at the same time, I've been pwned by alot of scorpions as well.

I think I covered the basics of Scorpion in a previous post, but in case you didn't catch it, Scorpion is all about predicatbility. Of course, Predictability is determined by every individual player and their play style, but the basic concepts are the same. The best way to beat a Scorpion player is dash block, and only jump if they try to perform Hellfire. Spear, Teleport, even Hellfire if you time your jump properly --- they are all highly punishable. I can't even tell you the last time I lost to a Scorpion player. The more you fight him, the more experience you'll have. Approach the match as a learning experience, and not a 'win or gtfo' mentality. You'll be surprised to see the results.

Yeah, I have been having problems with people who enjoy using that insane force lift combo with Ermac. (*Looks at Sig and avatar.* Wait a second....) But yeah, I remember a king of the hill match I was in, the guy on top was always Ermac. Everybody kept giving him a bad score because he just wasn't fun to play against. Plus, everytime I want to try a combo on him, I end up getting force lifted into another combo. Any suggestions?

I think a few others have covered this already, but just to throw in my two cents for the sake of sounding repititive, try NOT jumping against an Ermac player. That force grab/lift is a ***** to get away from, and dash + block becomes your best friend. Find the opportunity and follow up with a nice counter and your set. It doens't mean it'll work against the most crafty Ermac players, but at least you'll have the basic foundation as to how to stop it.

I'm glad someone took the time to make this thread cuz I was really getting sick of all the quitters blow up on here when all they need is practice and superior MK players' knowledge.

My friend and I call it "Basic Mortal Kombat Knowledge" (lol) n we've used it since MK1. Beginners need to learn the basics first instead of coming out here and trying to do a bunch of special moves and combos. No matter who you're playing, any game can be won with patience by utilizing blocking, throws, sweeps, and uppercuts.

Some beginners can't even move around without jumping accidently the whole time. It sux when you see a friend that doesn't play too much jump everytime they try a down, back, x.

These people should stay away from online until they've learned the basics and can beat an arcade ladder on hard, but if they attempt to try it, then good for them.

Basicly, I'm just sick of the *****ing, so do something about it...and that's why I'm glad you made this thread.

This is true and all too commong amungst most new players. They watch the youtube videos or other players beat them online, and in wanting to mimic their formula for success, they skip step one (training) and step two (online practice) and skip straight to step three (being successful). If only there was a way to hasten the process right? But alas, it just isn't so. People need help, they need advice, and to not feel rediculed when they come seeking that help or advice.

I think that is why so many people 'quit' MK. No one really takes the time to really help or explain anything to them, so they just give up on with the fear that they will be made fun of it they come seeking help. Not here, and not now. :D

Battling anxiety during matches was rough for me at first. But, Ive found that practice is key. If you are having trouble which I have especially with pressure from Kung Lao as I usually play Sub-Zero,Mileena and Ermac. Practice against the expert AI in training mode and just defend. It'll help you learn how to block low or high etc. But also when you have the best opening for an offensive move. I know its not like playing against a real player but it is an invaluable tool. If you practice then go online and end up in the same situation getting pummeled ruthlessly keep a clear head and if anxiety creeps up just remember. Hey Ive practiced this a thousand times I know how to beat this. Thats where practice really shows its merits under pressure. If youve done something alot the better you'll become and the less likely you'll get anxious and lose your focus.

since this is a kind of "community help" thread, I have a few questions. First off I guess Im an Intermediate player I have alot left to learn. This is the first fighting game since MK3 that Ive gotten into really deeply. Sometimes when reading threads for strategy I come across terms Im not familiar with. So if you guys could help explain these it would be much appreciated. 1- Fuzzy Blocking. 2- Trap Strings and 3-Tech Grabs. Im sure there are more Im not familiar with but those are few. If you could drop some schwience on me Id very much appreciate it.

Re: The Official "I Quit" Thread

Ive been having problems too let me ask a question, how do get rid of that nervousness before a match? The feeling always comes back no matter how good or bad your record is.

It's really weird because I ALWAYS get nervous before a match. It's like "HOLY **** IM NEXT! WHO IS HE GONNA PLAY WITH? HOW GOOD AM I GONNA DO? I HOPE I GET GOOD SCORES!" I thought I was the only one.

Ive been playing in metal bands in the local TN area since I was 16 and Im 27 and still get nervous before shows. But as soon as we hit the stage and start it turns to excitement. The main thing is to not get overwhelmed turn that anxious energy into focus. Youve played a thousand times over. You practice and you know what youre doing. Keep that in mind and just focus on the match. The nervousness is what makes it so addictive and fun. Its exciting just keep that in mind and dont worry about making mistakes youre human it happens and everyone loses. The worst that can happen is you lose but you can always get em the next song or the next match if you will. Its a weird analogy but its basically the same take a deep breath and give em hell kid!

Fuzzy Blocking: If you block an attack at the last possible instance, you will block the attack in that particular position. So if you're blocking low and stand block to block an overhead, you will block it and remain in crouch.

Essentially it's last second blocking in any position, up or down, the allows you to continue to block no matter what position your in.

Trap Strings: Things like Quan Chi's Hypnosis Strand, Scorpions' mid-combo spear, or Cyrax's Bomb Trap. Essentially they are enescapable combo strings that essentially 'trap' you mid way and allow you to continue on to another combo.

Tech Grabs: Pressing the grab button the same time as your opponent to break the grab. Pressing square seems to work too, it just requires timing.

Re: The Official "I Quit" Thread

After trying over and over again (over 50 times i think!!!) i will skip that damn challenge #300. I have completed all the other challenge but i am not able to pass Mileena. I don't have the patience anymore to try it unless someone give me an easy way to beat it with any characters!!!

Use Sektor, after losing several matches 300 actually gets easier keep re-trying. Jump backwards with Sektor and do his teleport uppercut followed by a standing uppercut or combo if you feel comfortable in landing it 100%. Just rinse and repeat everytime you see the cpu jump at you or shoot off a projectile jump backwards and do teleport punch. Works like a charm!

Okay cool! Now that you explained them these are things I actually know I just wasnt familiar with the terms. Except fuzzy blocking Ill have to practice that. So thanks alot Matt

Re: The Official "I Quit" Thread

I have no trouble with most Ermacs. Only a few I know are truly great.

Don't jump in. Period. Ermac is not the only character who can snag you out of the air, so I don't know why it all of a sudden becomes such a hard concept against him.

Ok there is another annoying thing that happens to me alot. What is the best way to defend/counter against low kicks and punches used to open up peoples defense

Lol i think those same things too, my hands start sweating when im in a good match. You are far from alone friend.

I've not seen too much need to really defend against low pokes. They only do so much damage and D+3 and D+1 moves don't do any chip at all (I think that applies to all characters) and D+1 hits very quickly but hits high.

Pokes like that can throw you off, but they're not going to win the game for the other guy. Often times the range is short enough that if they want to try and crouch block until you get close enough for them to spam poke that there are a number of easy work arounds. Jump-in punch, for instance. Jump punches are overheads, you'll have to delay the punch a little bit since their hitbox will be lower but it'll knock them right out of their crouch if you land a deep jump punch/kick. An overhead with good range such as Kabal's Tornado Slam will throw them out of their little poke-centric game as well.

Show them that you can deal more damage to them by countering their little pokes than they can by landing all their pokes.

Re: The Official "I Quit" Thread

It depends on the character. I can low poke, open someone up, TK Slam into a 40%.

That is true. Shit, I must be more tired than I thought because I completely forgot about cancelling low pokes into specials. Either way, my counter options should suffice, but wow I should go to bed early tonight lol.

Re: The Official "I Quit" Thread

I appreciate everyone's input so far. Any ideas for names we can change this thread too?

Re: The Official "I Quit" Thread

Whenever I see someone use Scorpion online I leave before the match can start.

Why? Because you think they are going to spam?

There are plenty of good Scorpion players out there who don't spam the shit out of him. Pretty weak that you quit just because of the character someone else chooses, imo.

Re: The Official "I Quit" Thread

You're never going to get better if you don't play against him. What's the point of playing a game if you totally avoid one specific character? And if you leave everytime someone chooses him, you must leave a lot because 80% of online players choose Scorpion. XD

Whether you like it or not you're going to have to play against him. The more you do, the more you'll learn his combos and such and then it wont be so bad.

Re: The Official "I Quit" Thread

Hello people can someone help me out when it comes to Sub-Zero and his overused strategy?
Strategy: Creates an ice clone in front of themselves, goes behind it, and then spams iceballs until the clone disappears. If my opponent does catch me with those iceballs, they get a free combo!
I have lost a lot to this strategy! I like to use reptile,Liu Kang, and Kung Lao. Thanks!
