The end of 'what if...'

I don't know... Reading the more recent interview with with Boon revealed that MK will loose the 'what if' endings in future games...

... No more 'what if Baraka won the tournement' no more chances of using it as a plot hole or a event that never happened to get a character back... Just this happened, get over it if you don't like it.

Kinda not a big thing I know... But it kinda saddens me. Some of the best fanfiction I read on MK a few years back was souly based on the 'what ifs'... The what if endings leave possiblities for fans to fill holes, even if they do cause confusions. When MK:D came out, we all began wondering which endings will be true (or partly true), speculations and wishes. You loose the what ifs you loose that chance.

Sure we can do the same thing with certain endings... But certain endings aren't as thrilling to discuss.

Agreed, but maybe that will help people come up with their own fanfiction...

Since that is happening that is going to suck, *remembers all of Reptiles crappy ending*

Hopefully they will make them still enjoyable. If not... Another game series with an awful story.

NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I loved those!!! for the first time ( since adding li mei to mortal kombat ) I'm angry with boon. oh well, change can be good.

Angel, did Boon actually say that there will be no more "what if" endings, or are you just speculating this? It doesn't really make sense if this is so. What would they do for the endings then? They'll either make everyone's endings concrete, or if they make it where it's the same ending for every character, which would be really pointless. So I don't know how they'd do this.

Boon never really said specifically that there won't be any more 'what if' endings in the series, I think he just meant that the endings in this game will show what actually happens to the characters. Since we all know the general purpose of this game, I personally think that the 'what ifs' will only be gone this time and will return in the future.

I think removing the what if endings is a mistake. Mortal Kombat thrives on confusing storylines and nonsensical plots its pretty much the heart of the game. Mostly I don't like it for the fact that it will end up streamlining stories and with a game a year that will be difficult to sustain while trying to refresh the series at the same time and keep its integrity intact. It would be all to easy to get into the habit of pumping out game after game while the ideas behind the games dry up through neglect. Plus when deception was released and I found out the deadly alliance had won I was totally floored, I hadn't bet on that.

i would like to see how the story really happens from everybody's point of view. i'm all for the all canon endings.

I liked the What If's, but maybe its better for the MK gaming line. The endings will be more complete with a once and done ending.

I'm not really against it. I really prefer it if games do have an actual ending that you know about... Not including FF7.

Mortal Kombat 1 through Deception is represented here, and there will be a few new faces as well. This, combined with a feature that I will reveal shortly, will make for a 60+ cast of characters. Boon says it best: "No more 'what if' scenarios. Players will be able to create any super-match ups they can think of."

Maybe it is for this game... You could read that sentance either way. At least for MK:Arm, they looks 100% for sure there will be no 'what ifs'.

Doesn't bother me. I'm just hyped to see whose thoeries were correct for MK:D. :D

And if there is no 'what ifs' then we know everything is then written in stone. Therefore we pretty much know the fate of everyone as per the start of the next MK game.

upon reading this article, i reaslise that it wasn't actually referring to the endings. what he actually said was "No more 'what if' scenarios. Players will be able to create any super-match ups they can think of."
in other words, he is saying that there's no more 'what if jarek took on kano" fantasies, you can just try it out for yourself.

:) Ah-ha!

Thanks for correcting my reading. (I read things badly sometimes... Dyslexia  ). But that means... What if is still there (hopefully) at least. :D

Blast you beat me to that comment....I like correcting ppl. O well, I'm glad we can still have the 'what if' endings...although hopefully better done than in MK:D b/c it was just too confusing trying to find out wtf actually happened...you could sort of tell what happened from the MK:DA endings because all of them tied together in some way so you could draw conclusions, but in MK:D every ending was like it's own disjointed little story...I don't like that.
