Suggestion for MK9/next MK...

Glam, just get into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or something. You won't be able to unleash all your rage like you would a punching bag, because guys will submit you quick. However, you'll get a great workout.

And Goraka, I like 2D AND 3D. I may prefer playing the 3D games more nowadays, but 2D MK was a big part of my childhood, and something I still enjoy from time-to-time.

I thought Deception lacked an all-around good (with the exception of Liu Kang's much-needed return, of course) roster, but had a fantastic Konquest. On the other hand, I thought Deadly Alliance had an insanely strong roster, but lacked a good Konquest mode. DA's Konquest was more straight-forward and just a training session, but Deception's Konquest was as enjoyable as the Arcade mode. Between the two, I find myself playing Deadly Alliance a lot more than I do Deception. I not only find DA's roster vastly superior, but also the Arcade mode, and the Krypt in DA is insanely stacked with great bonuses. The Krypt in DA also takes a lot more time to fully unlock.

I don't really have that many complaints about Armageddon, really, and the few complaints I do have are incredibly minor. I also find myself playing the Endurance Mode (because I have the Wii version) a lot more than the Arcade, so maybe that's why I don't find myself complaining all that much. The Konquest in Armageddon is also fantastic.

I'm with you on doing away with the characters, except for Mokap, Taven, Daegon and Moloch (who I have grown to appreciate, despite being incredibly generic). I might be one of the few people who actually enjoy playing as Mokap, and I consider myself to be really good as Mokap. I like Blaze in Deadly Alliance, but not so much in Armageddon, as he looks pretty silly.

I believe the next MK should be an 8bit side scroller. Just think about it, Scorpion jumping over Sub-Zero's freeze blasts, to get to the bridge release lever on the other side. Sure, Scorpion can even lob fireballs at every little minion along the way.

Being mainly an adventure gamer at heart, I adored MKM and MKSM like nobody's business. And I'll be perfectly pleased if we see at least a spiritual sequel to MKSM for the next MK. It's been hinted at in rumors for a while now, I just want it to be true amidst all this Midway turmoil. MKSM was the last MK game that I really truly praised when I finally got my hands on it.

And to Stryker: Getting into a martial art doesn't really help me when I get frustrated at a game. I don't need an outlet for my rage, my rage ONLY shows up when I'm frustrated and I can't just jump up and go to brazilian jiu-jitsu class at a moments notice. My rage would subside halfway to the dojo. That's why I want a punching clown or a punching bag in the living room. Then when I get frustrated I can wail on it for a minute and get right back to gaming.

A punch bag would probably be better in the long run. I've got one, and it's great for arguments with your better half too. But also, have you looked into anger management? Videogames are no reason to lose it dude.

Video games have a tendency to fill me with rage at times as well, and it's hard to explain why that is. I used to throw my controllers, but after being left with so few working ones, I stopped that and held the outbursts to strings of nonsensical obscenities. Otherwise, however, I am and always have been a pretty mellow guy, and rarely show any visible anger. If Glamador experiences something similar to that, I think anger management is a ways off. We all have our buttons, I suppose, but one could argue that video games are no less of a reason to lose it than a spousal disagreement, driving complications or any of a number of other common buttons people are notorious for.

Just food for thought.

Yep, I'm just like that Deathcore. But it's not *just* video-games. It's frustration in general. Sometimes if I can't get my socks on just right...I get really mad. But I don't flip out. That's only when I'm gaming.

Secret characters should be like the ones in MK2. In other words, unplayable. Or make secret characters like in SF4 (Gouki/Gouken) where you need to meet a certain condition in order to fight them and if you win they become unlockable and playable, etc.

Well pick one or the other. Because you're sending mixed messages. You don't like the simple "buy 'em" strategy they've used for the MKDA trilogy? Or the two methods from MK3? Which is to say, either with timed button inputs or only via cheats?

Personally, I like the idea of having to fight your opponent to unlock them...but I'm not very good you see, and I still want to use them.

My favourite method is the Tekken 2 system, where each character has a rival character who is unlocked after fighting them. Like playing through as Sub-Zero would unlock Noob, Scorpion would unlock Quan Chi etc. Plus, that gives us a lot more unlockable characters then we're used to.

That sounds like a really good idea, Goraka.

Of course, my biggest suggestion for the new MK is that IT COMES OUT FOR THE WII, DAMN IT!!

I guess my thoughts are right now on how pissed off I couldn't reply to Tim's note in the shout box about I don't know what I'm talking about. Came back from holiday, want to mention it pissed me off but don't want to talk about it. I'll pretend I never saw that since I had a bad week. I don't know, I'd like there just to be a game right now... All the news of Midway and all... I don't expect much of the next game after all that. The longer Midway's crisis goes on the less I'm expecting another game.

I could bless it by saying there won't be a MK9, since every time I predict something I know it comes wrong. Yeah lets do it! There won't be a MK9 peeps, there won't be because I said so.

Now fate can prove me wrong again.

...y'know, not to rehash the topic of 3D vs 2D (which is not what I was expecting when I first clicked on this thread), but I seem to remember bringing this question up in its own thread, and I was just waiting for the poster boy for regressivism to show up. I thought that maybe an honest, intelligent discussion of the matter was possibe. I see from the interaction on this thread that that just wasn't going to happen with you-know-who. My curiosity is satisfied on that matter.

Getting back on topic, I think unlockable characters using Goraka's method is in order. I really like that idea, it adds to the story, as opposed to just repeating the same damn arcade mode (or replaying Konquest) and using koins or keys to unlock krypts. I would also add, for the game in general, the crew needs to take some time to read some more ancient Far Eastern mythology, and incorporate elements of that into the next installment.

Of course, the game may or may not be deep into production already, so by this point it's all just wishful thinking, anyway. it's fun to play Monday-morning QB, anyway. :bomb:

Conquest like MKD with 3 hidden characters and new arenas with some old ones
Chow Kang Liu's brother
Asian Kombatant
Female Indian
Female Black Ninja
Female sub boss or boss
Shang Tsung unknown son
some others....

I want nastier fatalities that my favorite characters (especially the females) would perform. The kinds that are similar to my ideas.

In regards to gameplay, the success of the Street Fighter franchise as of late will most likely insprire the MK developers to rethink their design choices. That is all I will say about gameplay. You can see that MK is definitely a series that follows trend in the genre.

My main quip ever since the series went 3D (and before for some guys/gals I'm sure) is this addiction to making the women as visually unappealing as possible. My only theory for this is the less attractive they are, the better we feel after beating them senseless. With the AO rating the team is hoping to avoid, I can only hope they make an attempt to give the girls better looking faces so when my Sonya or Kitana gets the stuffing beat out of her, the scars on her face will resonate with my attraction to her and hopefully conjure up some hormone-induced sense of vengeance and justice that I can use to conquer my opponents and punish them for their wrongdoings.

Please, yeah I'm talking to YOU, Netherrealm Studios guy that sometimes reads the fan forums, don't make the women so friggin ugly!

EDIT:

I was reading up on Liu Kang's bio and I find it interesting how he used to not kill. I know killing him was drastic enough for the series and returning him as a zombie was absurd(to me) but, but, I wouldn't mind seeing a return to the old Liu Kang. What if he tried to seek retribution? Cleanse his soul. It might give him a character trait (since no one really has one) that's interesting. While everyone is pulling each other's guts out, Liu Kang is attempting a noble path. The twist could be he is FORCED to do his fatalaties (dragon transform, possession, etc...).

Fatalities should be this nasty:

1) Jade's should be something like this-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRalW3nQpDg&feature=related

2)

3)

4) Kitana's Kiss of Death should be like this and not have the character turn obese at all.

5)

6) I want fatalities like these especially the one like the "Lament Reversal" in this videos being performed by female characters on male victims. :
